Plate J 66. Jesus Calms a Storm [Mat 8:18; Mat 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; & Luk 8:22-25]

Mat 8:18

Mark 4:35

Luk 8:22

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Lk] it came to pass

[ Mk Lk] on [ Mk ] the same [ Mk Lk] day, [ Lk] that, [Mt Mk ] when [ Mk ] the even was come, [ ] [and] [Mt ] Jesus saw great multitudes about him,

[Mt Mk Lk] he [Mt ] gave commandment, [ ] [and] [ Mk Lk] said unto them, Let us

[Mt Mk Lk] go [ Mk Lk] over [Mt Mk Lk] unto the other side [ Lk] of the lake.

Mat 8:23

Mark 4:36

[Mt Mk Lk] And [Mt Mk ] when [ Mk ] they had sent away the multitude, [Mt Lk] he entered into a ship,

[ Lk] and [Mt Lk] his disciples [Mt ] followed him.

[ Lk] And [ Mk Lk] they [ Mk ] took him even as he was in the ship, [ ] [and] [ Lk] launched forth.

[ Mk ] And there were also with him other little ships.

Mat 8:24

Mark 4:38 a

Luk 8:23

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Lk] as they sailed

[Mt Mk Lk] he [ Lk] fell [Mt Mk Lk] asleep [ Mk ] on a pillow in the hinder part of the ship.

Mark 4:37 [Mt Mk Lk] And, [Mt ] behold, [Mt Mk Lk] there came [ Lk] down

[Mt Mk Lk] a [Mt Mk ] great [Mt Mk Lk] tempest [ Mk Lk] of wind [Mt Lk] on the lake;

[ Mk ] and [Mt Mk ] the waves [ Mk ] beat into [Mt Mk ] the ship, so that

[ Mk ] it

[Mt Mk ] was

[ Mk ] now [Mt ] covered;

[ Lk] and they were [ Mk Lk] filled [Mt ] with [ Lk] [water], and were in jeopardy.

Mat 8:25

Mark 4:38 b

Luk 8:24

[Mt Mk Lk] And [Mt ] his disciples [Mt Lk] came to [him], and [Mt Mk Lk] awoke him,

[ Mk ] and [Mt Mk Lk] said [ Mk ] unto him, [Mt Mk Lk] Master, [ Lk] master, [Mt ] save us:

[ Mk ] carest thou not that [Mt Mk Lk] we perish?

Mat 8:26

Mark 4:40 a [Mt Mk ] And he saith unto them, Why are ye

[ Mk ] so [Mt Mk ] fearful, [Mt ] O ye of little faith?

Mark 4:39

[ Mk Lk] And [Mt ] then [Mt Mk Lk] he arose, and rebuked the wind-

[Mt ] s

[Mt Lk] and [ Lk] the raging of the water, [ Mk ] and said unto [Mt Mk ] the sea, [ Mk ] Peace, be still.

[ Mk Lk] And [ Mk ] the wind [ Mk Lk] ceased, [Mt Mk Lk] and there was a [Mt Mk ] great [Mt Mk Lk] calm.

Luk 8:25 [ Lk] And he said unto them, Where is your faith?

Mark 4:40 b [ Mk ] How is it that ye have no faith?

Mat 8:27

Mark 4:41

[Mt Mk Lk] And [Mt ] the men [ Mk Lk] being [ Mk ] exceedingly [ Mk Lk] afraid [Mt Lk] marvelled,

[ Mk ] and [Mt Mk Lk] said [ Mk Lk] one to another, [Mt Mk Lk] What manner of man is this, that [ Lk] he commandeth [Mt Mk Lk] even the wind-

[Mt Lk] s

[Mt Mk Lk] and [ Lk] water [ ] [of] [Mt Mk ] the sea, [ Lk] and they [Mt Mk Lk] obey him!

67. The Gadarene Demoniacs [Mat 8:28-34; Mat 9:1a (...and passed over,); Mark 5:1-21;

& Luk 8:26-40]

Mat 8:28

Mark 5:1

Luk 8:26

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Mk Lk] they [Mt Mk Lk] came [Mt Mk ] to the other side [ Mk ] of the sea, [Mt Mk Lk] into the country of the [ Mk Lk] Gadarenes [ ] [and] [Mt ] Gergesenes, [ Lk] which is over against Galilee.

Mark 5:2

Luk 8:27 [ Mk Lk] And when he went forth [ Mk ] out of the ship [ Lk] to land, [ Mk ] immediately [Mt Mk Lk] there met him, [Mt ] coming [Mt Mk Lk] out of [Mt Mk ] the tombs [ ] [of] [ Lk] the city,

[Mt ] two

[ Mk Lk] m- [ ] [e]-

[ Mk Lk] n [Mt Mk Lk] which had [ Mk ] unclean [Mt Lk] devil [ Mk ] spirit-

[Mt Lk] s [ Lk] long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in [any] house, but

Mark 5:3

[ Mk ] had [ ] [their] [ Mk ] dwelling [ Mk Lk] in the tombs;

[Mt ] exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

[ Mk ] And no man could bind [ ] [them], [ Mk ] no, not with chains:

Mark 5:4 [ Mk ] neither could any [man] tame [ ] [them].

Luk 8:29 b [ Mk Lk] For oftentimes [ ] [the devils] [ Lk] had caught [ ] [them]:

[ Lk] and [ ] [they] [ Mk ] had been [ Lk] kept [ Mk Lk] bound with fetters and chains, and the chains [ Mk ] had been plucked [ Mk Lk] asunder

[ Mk ] by [ ] [them], [ Mk ] and the fetters [ Mk Lk] broken [ Mk ] in pieces:

[ Lk] and [ ] [they were] [ Lk] driven of the devil into the wilderness.

Mark 5:5 [ Mk ] And always, night and day, [ ] [they were] [ Mk ] in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting [ ] [themselves] [ Mk ] with stones.

Mat 8:29

Mark 5:6

Luk 8:28

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Mk Lk] when [ ] [they] [ Mk Lk] saw Jesus [ Mk ] afar off, [Mt ] behold, they [ Mk ] ran, [ ] [and] [ Lk] fell down before him [ Mk ] and worshipped him,

Mark 5:7

[ Mk Lk] and [Mt Mk Lk] cried out, [ Mk Lk] and with a loud voice [Mt Mk Lk] said, What have

[Mt ] we [Mt Mk Lk] to do with thee, Jesus, [thou] Son of [ Mk Lk] the most high [Mt Mk Lk] God?

[Mt ] art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

[ Mk Lk] I adjure thee [ Mk ] by God, [ Mk Lk] torment [ ] [us] [ Mk Lk] not.

Mark 5:8

Luk 8:29 a [ Mk Lk] For he [ Lk] had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the [ ] [first] [ Lk] man, [ ] [and] [ Mk ] said unto him, Come out of the man, [thou] unclean spirit.

Mark 5:9

Luk 8:30

[ Mk Lk] And [ Lk] Jesus [ Mk Lk] asked him, [ Lk] saying, [ Mk Lk] What

[ Lk] is [ Mk Lk] thy name? And he [ Mk ] answered, [ Mk Lk] saying, [ Mk ] My name [is] [ Mk Lk] Legion;

[ Mk ] for we are many:

[ Lk] because many devils were entered into him.

Mark 5:10

Luk 8:31

[ Mk Lk] And [ Lk] they [ Mk Lk] besought him [ Mk ] much [ Mk Lk] that he would not [ Mk ] send them away out of the country, [ ] [nor] [ Lk] command them to go out into the deep.

Mat 8:30

Mark 5:11

Luk 8:32 [Mt Mk Lk] Now there was [ Mk Lk] there, [Mt ] a good way off from them, [ Mk ] nigh

[ Lk] on [ Mk Lk] the mountain-

[ Mk ] s, [Mt Mk Lk] a great herd of swine feeding.

Mat 8:31

Mark 5:12

[Mt Mk Lk] And

[ Mk ] all [Mt Mk ] the devils [Mt Mk Lk] besought him [ Lk] that he would suffer them to enter into them, [Mt Mk ] saying, [Mt ] If thou cast us out, [ Mk ] send us [ ] [and] [Mt ] suffer us to go away [Mt Mk ] into the [Mt ] herd of [Mt Mk ] swine, [ Mk ] that we may enter into them.

Mat 8:32

Mark 5:13

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Mk ] forthwith Jesus [ Mk Lk] gave them leave, [ ] [and] [Mt ] said unto them, Go.

Luk 8:33 [Mt Mk Lk] And when

[ Mk Lk] the [ Mk ] unclean [ Lk] devil [ Mk ] spirit-

[ Mk Lk] s [Mt Mk Lk] were come out [ Lk] of the m- [ ] [e]-

[ Lk] n, [Mt Mk Lk] they went into the [Mt ] herd of [Mt Mk Lk] swine: and, [Mt ] behold,

[Mt Mk Lk] the [Mt ] whole [Mt Mk Lk] herd [Mt ] of swine [Mt Mk Lk] ran violently down a steep place into the sea, [ Mk ] (they were about two thousand;)

[Mt Mk Lk] and [ Mk Lk] were choked [ ] [and] [Mt ] perished [Mt Mk ] in the [Mt ] waters [ ] [of the] [ Mk ] sea.

Mat 8:33

Mark 5:14

Luk 8:34

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Lk] when [Mt Mk Lk] they that fed [ Mk ] the swine [ Lk] saw what was done, they [Mt Mk Lk] fled, [Mt Lk] and went their ways [Mt ] into the city, [Mt Mk Lk] and told [Mt ] every thing [ Mk Lk] in the city and in the country, [Mt ] and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.

Mat 8:34

Luk 8:35 [Mt Mk Lk] And, [Mt ] behold, the whole city [Mt Mk Lk] came out [Mt ] to meet Jesus [ ] [and] [ Mk Lk] to see what [ Mk ] it was that [ Mk Lk] was done.

Mark 5:15 [ Mk Lk] And they came to Jesus, and saw [ Lk] the m- [ ] [e]-

[ Lk] n [ Mk ] that [ ] [were] [ Mk ] possessed with [ Mk Lk] the devils,

[ Mk ] and [ Lk] out of whom

[ Mk Lk] had [ Lk] departed [ Mk ] the legion, [ Mk Lk] sitting [ Lk] at the feet of Jesus,

[ Mk ] and [ Mk Lk] clothed, and in [ ] [their] [ Mk Lk] right mind: and they were afraid.

Mark 5:16

Luk 8:36 [ Mk Lk] And they [ Lk] also [ Mk Lk] which saw [it] told them how [ Mk ] it befell [ ] [that they] [ Mk Lk] that [ ] [were] [ Mk Lk] possessed of the devils [ ] [were] [ Lk] healed, [ Mk ] and [also] concerning the swine.

Mark 5:17

Luk 8:37

[Mt Mk Lk] And [Mt ] when [Mt Mk ] they [Mt ] saw him, [ Lk] the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about [ Mk ] began to [Mt Mk Lk] beseech

[ Mk Lk] him [Mt ] that he would [Mt Mk Lk] depart from [Mt Mk ] their coasts;

[ Lk] for they were taken with great fear:

Mat 9:1 a

Mark 5:18 [Mt Mk Lk] and he entered into the ship,

[ Mk Lk] and [ Lk] returned back again.

Luk 8:38

[ Lk] Now [ ] [one of] [ Lk] the m- [ ] [e]-

[ Lk] n [ Mk ] that had been possessed with [ Mk Lk] the devils, [ Lk] out of whom [ ] [they] [ Lk] were departed, [ Mk Lk] besought him that he might be with him.

Mark 5:19 [ Mk Lk] Howbeit Jesus [ Mk ] suffered him not, but [ Lk] sent him away, [ Mk Lk] saying [ Mk ] unto him, Go,

Luk 8:39 [ Lk] return [ Mk Lk] to thy house [ Mk ] unto thy friends, [ Mk Lk] and tell [ Mk ] them [ Mk Lk] how great things [ Mk ] the Lord

[ Lk] God [ Mk Lk] hath done for thee, [ Mk ] and hath had compassion on thee.

Mark 5:20 [ Mk Lk] And he went his way, and [ Mk ] began to [ Mk Lk] publish [ Lk] throughout the whole city [ ] [and] [ Mk ] in Decapolis [ Mk Lk] how great things Jesus had done for him:

[ Mk ] and all [men] did marvel.

Mark 5:21

Luk 8:40

[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Lk] it came to pass, that, [ Mk Lk] when Jesus was [Mt Mk ] passed over [ Mk ] again by ship [ ] [and] [ Lk] returned [ Mk ] unto the other side, much [ Mk Lk] people [ Lk] [gladly] received him [ ] [and] [ Mk ] gathered unto him:

[ Lk] for they were all waiting for him.

[ Mk ] And he was nigh unto the sea.

[At this point Matthew jumps to Plate D. But Mark 4:35 links Plates I and J. And in Plate I Mark mentions the Twelve Apostles (Mark 4:10). But Matthew, who was one of the Twelve, was not even a disciple until he was called by Jesus in Plate D (Mat 9:9). This makes it impossible to place Plate J before Plate D. Mark inserts Plate E between Plates J and K. But Mat 9:18 links Plates E and F. Hence I go directly from Plate J to Plate K.]

Plate K 68. Jesus Again Rejected at Nazareth

[Mat 13:54-58 & Mark 6:1b-6a (and came into...of their unbelief.)]

Mat 13:54

Mark 6:1 b [Mt Mk] And he came into his own country;

[ Mk] and his disciples follow him.

Mark 6:2 [ Mk] And when the sabbath day was come,

[Mt Mk] he [ Mk] began to

[Mt Mk] teach

[Mt ] them

[Mt Mk] in

[Mt ] their [Mt Mk] synagogue, [Mt ] insomuch that [ Mk] many hearing [him] [Mt Mk] were astonished,

[Mt ] and [Mt Mk] said, Whence hath this [man] [ Mk] these things? and what

[Mt Mk] wisdom

[ Mk] [is]

[Mt Mk] this [ Mk] which is given unto him, that

[Mt Mk] even

[ Mk] such [Mt Mk] mighty works [ Mk] are wrought by his hands?

Mat 13:55

Mark 6:3 [Mt Mk] Is not this [ Mk] the carpenter, [Mt Mk] the son of [Mt ] the carpenter? is not his mother called [Mt Mk] Mary? and [ ] [is he not] [ Mk] the brother of [Mt ] his brethren, [Mt Mk] James, and Joses, and Simon, and Juda-

[Mt ] s?

Mat 13:56 [Mt Mk] and are not his sisters

[Mt ] all

[ Mk] here [Mt Mk] with us?

[Mt ] Whence then hath this [man] all these things?

Mat 13:57 [Mt Mk] And they were offended in him.

Mark 6:4 [Mt Mk] But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, [ Mk] and among his own kin, [Mt Mk] and in his own house.

Mat 13:58

Mark 6:5

[Mt Mk] And he

[ Mk] could

[Mt Mk] not do

[Mt ] many [Mt Mk] mighty work-

[Mt ] s

[Mt Mk] there [Mt ] because of their unbelief, [ Mk] save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them].

Mark 6:6 a [ Mk] And he marvelled because of their unbelief.

[At this point Matthew jumps directly to Plate M, and places Plate L before Plate H. But Luk 7:18 links Plates G and H. Hence I follow Mark and Luke at this point.]

Plate L 69. Jesus’ Third Circuit through Galilee [Mat 9:35-38 & Mark 6:6b (And he went...)]

Mat 9:35

Mark 6:6 b

[Mt Mk] And

[Mt ] Jesus

[Mt Mk] went

[ Mk] round

[Mt Mk] about [Mt ] all the cities and [Mt Mk] the villages, teaching

[Mt ] in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Mat 9:36

[Mt ] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Mat 9:37 [Mt ] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly [is] plenteous, but the labourers [are] few;

Mat 9:38 [Mt ] pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

70. The Twelve Apostles Sent Out [Mat 10:1-42; Mat 11:1; Mark 6:7-13; & Luk 9:1-6]

Mat 10:1

Mark 6:7

Luk 9:1 [Mt Mk Lk] And he called [ Lk] together [Mt Mk ] unto [him]

[Mt Lk] his [Mt Mk Lk] twelve [Mt Lk] disciples, [Mt Mk Lk] and gave them [ Lk] power and [Mt Mk Lk] authority over [ Lk] all devils [ ] [and] [Mt Mk ] unclean spirits, [Mt ] to cast them out, [Mt Lk] and to heal [Mt ] all manner of [Mt Lk] sickness-

[ Lk] es [Mt ] and all manner of disease.

Mat 10:2

[Mt ] Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James [the son] of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Mat 10:3

[Mt ] Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

Mat 10:4 [Mt ] Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Luk 9:2

[ Mk Lk] And

Mat 10:5 [Mt ] these twelve Jesus [ Mk ] began to [Mt Mk Lk] send forth [ Mk ] by two and two, [ Lk] to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

[Mt ] And [ ] [he]

[Mt ] commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into [any] city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

Mat 10:6 [Mt ] but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Mat 10:7 [Mt ] And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mat 10:8 [Mt ] Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Mark 6:8

Luk 9:3 [ Mk Lk] And he [ Mk ] commanded [ ] [and] [ Lk] said unto [ Mk Lk] them [ Mk ] that they should [ Mk Lk] take nothing

Mat 10:10 b

[Mt Mk Lk] for [ Mk ] [their] [Mt Mk Lk] journey, [ Mk ] save a staff only:

Mat 10:9 [Mt ] Provide neither gold, [Mt Lk] nor silver, [Mt Mk ] nor brass in [Mt ] your [Mt Mk ] purse-

[Mt ] s,

Mat 10:10 a [Mt Mk Lk] nor scrip, [ Mk Lk] nor bread:

Mark 6:9 [ Mk ] but [be] shod with sandals;

Mat 10:10 c [Mt Mk Lk] neither [ Lk] have [Mt Mk Lk] two coats [ Lk] apiece [ ] [to] [ Mk ] put on, [Mt ] nor shoes, [Mt Lk] nor staves:

[Mt ] for the workman is worthy of his meat.

Mark 6:10 [ Mk ] And he said unto them,

Mat 10:11

Luk 9:4

[Mt Lk] And

[Mt Mk ] in-

[Mt ] to [Mt Mk Lk] whatsoever [Mt ] city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and [Mt Mk Lk] there abide [Mt Mk ] till ye [Mt Mk Lk] depart [ Mk Lk] thence.

Mat 10:12 [Mt ] And when [Mt Mk Lk] ye enter into

[Mt Mk ] an [Mt Mk Lk] house, [Mt ] salute it.

Mat 10:13

[Mt ] And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Mat 10:14

Mark 6:11

Luk 9:5 [Mt Mk Lk] And whosoever will not receive you, [Mt Mk ] nor hear you- [Mt ] r words, [Mt Mk Lk] when ye depart [ Mk ] thence [Mt Lk] out of that [Mt ] house or [Mt Lk] city, [Mt Mk Lk] shake off the [ Lk] very [Mt Mk Lk] dust [ Lk] from [ Mk ] under [Mt Mk Lk] your feet [ Mk Lk] for a testimony against them.

Mat 10:15 [Mt Mk ] Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for [Mt ] the land of [Mt Mk ] Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Mat 10:16

[Mt ] Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Mat 10:17

[Mt ] But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

Mat 10:18

[Mt ] and ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

Mat 10:19

[Mt ] But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

Mat 10:20 [Mt ] For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Mat 10:21

[Mt ] And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against [their] parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Mat 10:22

[Mt ] And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Mat 10:23

[Mt ] But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

Mat 10:24 [Mt ] The disciple is not above [his] master, nor the servant above his lord.

Mat 10:25

[Mt ] It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more [shall they call] them of his household?

Mat 10:26

[Mt ] Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

Mat 10:27

[Mt ] What I tell you in darkness, [that] speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, [that] preach ye upon the house tops.

Mat 10:28

[Mt ] And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mat 10:29 [Mt ] Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Mat 10:30 [Mt ] But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Mat 10:31 [Mt ] Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Mat 10:32

[Mt ] Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 10:33 [Mt ] But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 10:34 [Mt ] Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Mat 10:35

[Mt ] For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Mat 10:36 [Mt ] And a man’s foes [shall be] they of his own household.

Mat 10:37

[Mt ] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Mat 10:38 [Mt ] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Mat 10:39 [Mt ] He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Mat 10:40 [Mt ] He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Mat 10:41

[Mt ] He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

Mat 10:42

[Mt ] And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold [water] only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

Mat 11:1

[Mt ] And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

Mark 6:12

Luk 9:6 [ Mk Lk] And they departed, [ Lk] and went through the towns, [ Mk Lk] preaching [ Lk] the gospel [ ] [and] [ Mk ] that men should repent.

Mark 6:13

[ Mk Lk] And [ Lk] every where [ Mk ] they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and [ Mk Lk] healed [ Mk ] [them].
