Lamentations 5:2

Lamentations 5:3
We are orphans and fatherlesse] Without King or Ruler, Hosea 3:4.
our mothers are as widowes] Our citie and state. Chap. 1. 1.
Lamentations 5:4
We have drunken our water for monie] We have nothing fre, but must pay for it, or earn it. Vers. 6. Numbers 20:19.
our wood is sold unto us] Heb. cometh for price to us. as Vers. 9.
Lamentations 5:5
Our necks are under persecution] Under a grievous yoke of thraldome. Jer. 28. 13, 14. Heb. On our necks are we persecuted.
we labour, and have no rest] Isaiah 23:12. Chap. 1. 3.
Lamentations 5:6
We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread] We are fain to beg our bread of strangers, having it not allowed us by those, whom we serve. Or, in our extremity we have been driven to seek to these nations for relief and succour. Isaiah 57:9. Hosea 12:1.
Lamentations 5:7
Our fathers have sinned] Jeremiah 31:29. Ezekiel 18:2.
and are not] Are dead and gone long since. Zechariah 1:5-6. See the phrase, Genesis 42:36. Psalms 39:13. Jr. 31. 15.
and we have born their iniquities] The main punishment hath been deferred unto our dayes. Isaiah 65:7. Matth. 23. 32, 35, 36.
Lamentations 5:8
Servants have ruled over us] Or, rle over us. Not strange Lords and masters onely; Isaiah 19:4. & Isaiah 26:13. but even the meanest of their servants also, have us at command; and use us as they please. Nehem. 5. 15.
there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand] See for the word, Psalms 7:2. & Psalms 136:24.
Lamentations 5:9
We gat our bread] Or, get it. Heb. make it come. as Vers. 4.
with the peril of our lives] By reason of those that lye in wait to intercept us. Chap 4. 19. Heb. with or soul. 2 Samuel 23:17.
because of the sword] Heb. from the face of the sword. Isaiah 21:15. Jeremiah 50:10.
of the wildernesse] Or, in the plain. Chap. 4. 19.
Lamentations 5:10
Our skin was black like an oven] Or, is black (Chap. 4. 8.) like a chimney. Isaiah 31:9.
because of] Heb. from the face of, or from before as vers. 9.
the terrible famine] Or, terrours, Psalms 119:53. or storms. Psalms 11:6.

Lamentations 5:13
They took the young men to grind] Or, The young men have carried the grist. They have been compelled to carry like horses or asses, among other burdens, their corn and grist to and fro; or, they have been constrained to grind in the mills like beasts: an employment, that slaves were usually put to. Exodus 11:5. Jud. 16. 21. Isaiah 47:2.
the children fell under the wood] Which beyond their might they were compelled to carry.
Lamentations 5:14
The elders have ceased from the gate] Where they had wont to sit in judgement. Jeremiah 38:7.
the young men from their musick] Jeremiah 31:13.
Lamentations 5:15
The joy of our heart is ceased] See Jeremiah 6:11. & Chap. 3. 14, 63.
our dance is turned into mourning] See the contrary. Psalms 30:11.
Lamentations 5:16
The crown is fallen from our head] Heb. The crown of our head is fallen. All our glory and state is gone. Psalms 89:39. Proverbs 4:9.

that we have sinned] All this have we brought upon our selves by our sinnes. Chap. 4. 13. Jeremiah 4:18.
Lamentations 5:17
our heart is faint] Chap. 1. 22.
our eyes are dimme] As is usuall with those that faint. 1 Samuel 14:29. Psalms 6:7. & Psalms 38:10. Jeremiah 14:6.

the foxes walk upon it] Who freely haunt waste places. Psalms 63:10.
Lamentations 5:19
Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever] Heb. fittest. that is, abidest. as Psalms 125:1. or, reignest. as Isaiah 10:13. See Psalms 9:7. & Psalms 10:16. & Psalms 29:10. & 102. 12. & 145. 13. & 146. 10. thy throne from generation to generation] Heb. to generation and generation. Psalms 89:4. See Psalms 45:6.
Lamentations 5:20
Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever] Psalms 13:1. & Psalms 44:24.
forsake us so long time] Heb. for length of dayes. Psalms 23:6.
Lamentations 5:21
Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned] Jeremiah 31:18. Receive us into grace and favour again; and our present estate will soon be changed for the better. Psalms 80:3. 7, 14. & 85. 4.
renew our dayes as of old] Restore us unto our former estate. Jeremiah 30:20. & Jeremiah 33:11.
Lamentations 5:22
But thou hast utterly rejected us] Or, wilt thou utterly reject us? Psal. 77. 7-9. & 85. 5, 6. Heb. rejecting rejected; or, reject. Jeremiah 14:19.
thou art very wroth against us] Or, art thou extreamly wroth with us? Or, wilt thou be wrath with us for ever? Heb. unto extremitie. Isaiah 64:9; Isaiah 64:12. or, unto perpetuitie. Psalms 119:8.
