But as for me, I'm full of the Lord's anger; I have a hard time keeping it in. The Lord replies, Pour it out on children in the street, and on groups of young people, because both husband and wife are going to be captured—it's everyone, and it doesn't matter how old they are.
Therefore I am full of the wrath of the Lord: I am weary with holding it: I will powre it out vpon the children in the streete, and likewise vpon the assembly of the yong men: for the husband shall euen be taken with the wife, and the aged with him that is full of daies.
And with the fury of Jehovah I have been filled, (I have been weary of containing,) To pour [it] on the suckling in the street, And on the assembly of youths together, For even husband with wife are captured, An elder with one full of days,

So now I am extremely angry, like Yahweh is angry, and I cannot restrain it any longer.” So Yahweh said to me, “Tell everyone that you are very angry with them. Tell the children in the streets and the young men who gather together. Tell the men and their wives; tell the very old people [DOU], also.

12Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD. 13“For from the least of them to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice deceit.Cross References

Jeremiah 6:11 Summary
[Jeremiah 6:11 is a powerful and sobering verse that reminds us of God's holiness and justice. God is a loving Father, but He is also a just Judge who will not tolerate sin and rebellion forever, as seen in Hebrews 10:26-31. When we sin and rebel against Him, He is grieved and His wrath is stirred, but He is also patient and desires for us to repent and turn to Him, as in 2 Peter 3:9. As we reflect on this verse, let us examine our own hearts and lives, and seek to walk in obedience to God's commands, as in John 14:15.]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does God express a desire to 'pour out' His wrath on the children and young men in Jeremiah 6:11?
God's wrath is a response to the sin and rebellion of His people, as seen in Jeremiah 6:10 where it says the word of the Lord has become offensive to them, and in Jeremiah 6:13 where it says all are greedy for gain and practice deceit, similar to what is described in Romans 1:18-32.
Is God being unfair by including the old and very old in His judgment?
God is a just and righteous judge, as seen in Deuteronomy 32:4, and His judgment is not based on age, but on the sin and rebellion of His people, as seen in Ezekiel 18:20 where it says the soul who sins will die.
What does it mean for God to be 'full of wrath' and 'tired of holding it back'?
This phrase indicates that God's patience with His people's sin has reached its limit, similar to what is described in Genesis 6:3 where God says His Spirit will not strive with man forever, and in Psalm 103:8-9 where it says God is slow to anger but will not leave the guilty unpunished.
How can we apply the warning in Jeremiah 6:11 to our own lives?
We can apply this warning by examining our own hearts and lives, as in 2 Corinthians 13:5, and repenting of any sin or rebellion against God, as in Acts 3:19, and seeking to walk in obedience to Him, as in 1 John 2:3-6.
Reflection Questions
- What are some ways I might be contributing to the sinful culture around me, and how can I repent and seek God's forgiveness?
- In what ways can I demonstrate God's love and mercy to those around me, even in the face of sin and rebellion?
- How can I cultivate a deeper sense of reverence and awe for God's holiness and justice, as seen in Isaiah 6:1-5?
- What are some practical steps I can take to 'glean the remnant' of my own heart, as in Jeremiah 6:9, and to seek God's purification and refinement?
