Hans R. Waldvogel (1893 - 1969)

Listen to freely downloadable audio sermons by the speaker Hans R. Waldvogel in mp3 format. A powerful preacher who ministered as a pentecostal minister. He did not believe in sectarian groups but rather saw the Church as a whole who have the person of Christ in them. Brother Waldvogel gleamed from many different men of God including A.B. Simpson.

His preaching was centred around the very person of Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. He spoke much of the rest of the Lord in Christian work and experience and the Spirit-filled life.

"Ye shall be as gods.” That was not Christ’s ambition by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Humbling Yourself
Scripture(s): Matthew 11:29, Philippians 2:5
Description: The Bible says, “Examine yourselves.” That doesn’t mean that I should examine somebody else. It’s a bad, bad sign when I examine everybody else—shows that I haven’t seen myself, I have lost sight of my own great need. You know, that’s the mark of true Christian. He examines himself in the presence of God and he judges no man. Jesus was like that. But it would be good, and it is good, and it must be good for us to examine ourselves, or to let God examine us. “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith, whether Christ be in you.” I’ve been sitting here praying for this one thing: that God might help in these days for us to see our great need. What is our need? Well, we’re a perishing lot—perishing. “Woe is me. I am undone. I’m a man of unclean lips, and I dwell among a people of unclean lips.” I’m in a poisonous atmosphere. “Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” There’s no deliverance except the thing that our brother spoke of: to be made new, absolutely new. As long as we try to fix up the old, we’ll only make an awful job out of it. But, oh, if Jesus Christ has His way, he’ll go His way—we will go His way. And His way is just one way: “Learn of Me. I am meek and lowly in heart.” Oh, is that my desire?

A Conscience Void of Offence by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Conscience
Scripture(s): Acts 24:14-16, 1 Timothy 4:2
Description: Now, I’d like to take three minutes to remind you of something that’s in the Bible—show you a mirror, let you look into this looking glass. Here’s a testimony of the Apostle Paul: “But this I confess unto thee…” Now, this is Acts 24:14. It’s in the New Testament. Acts 24:14. “But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy…” I’ve been called a heretic ever since I was a little boy. And I’m mighty glad to be in this company of those that are called “heretics.” If you follow Jesus Christ with all your heart, you’ll soon be a “heretic.” Your best friends won’t like you anymore. They’ll say, “I can’t do anything with him, he’s too holy.” Or, “She’s too holy. You can’t enter into a decent conversation with them.”

 Abandonment by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Abandonment
Scripture(s): Psalm 131:2, John 6:57
Description: “Abandonment is the key to the inner court, so that he who knows truly how to abandon himself will soon become perfect.” We have a German hymn that says the same thing: “Ergebung heißt das schöne Wort.” And this morning, there’s a wonderful light shining in this place. It’s this: that we’re learning, slowly, to abandon ourselves. Now, a person, of course, can abandon himself to sin—to flesh, to lust, to pride, to sensitiveness, to all the works of the flesh. But the wonderful thing is that we have learned—or are learning—to abandon ourselves to Jesus, or “wholly give ourselves to One who gives Himself to us”.

 Abiding — I John 2:28 by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Abiding
Scripture(s): 1 John 2:28, Psalm 91:1
Description: “…and to be presented spotless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.” Do you want to be there when Jesus comes? Well, Moses did. And when all Israel backslid, he went up to the mountain to be alone with God, and he fell down forty days and forty nights, and he said, “O God, this people hath sinned a great sin,” and he prayed for them—he interceded for them until God forgave their iniquity. But then Moses wasn’t through. He said, “God, show me now Thy glory.” Oh, to him, God was “all and in all.” And while the people had danced around the golden calf and given themselves to idolatry, Moses had but one aim. And you and I have but one aim, no matter what others do, no matter how people backslide, no matter what they do with prayer, what they do with church—no matter what they do. No matter how they give themselves to gossip, to criticizing, to pride, to ambition, to tending to things of earth, I’ve got but one program: to abide in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Are you a living epistle? by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Living Epistle
Scripture(s): Psalm 17:15, 2 Timothy 2:21
Description: Now, I came into the meeting tonight, and saw the heaven rolling away and the glory of God descending, and was reminded of the words of Jesus where He said, “Where two of you, or three, are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst.” I thought, “Well the Lord Jesus really has a plan with every meeting, or He wouldn’t bother to come around, would He?” Do you think so? But you know, it’s been a source of unceasing wonderment to me how that He always manages to come. Praise the Lord! Sometimes people don’t pay very much attention to Him, but He always manages to come, and He always manages to manifest Himself. He must have a real purpose in it; He must have a real plan. And wouldn’t it be interesting to find out just what God’s plan is?

Be Diligent To Get Alone With God by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Alone With God
Scripture(s): Philippians 2:13, Philippians 4:19
Description: Sometimes people seek the Lord, and they make all the plans, and they have all the ideas. When I was a beginner in the ministry, before I came to Brooklyn, I used to try to get a week now, or two weeks then, to wait upon the Lord. And one time, I found out that a brother-in-law of mine and his family were going away on a vacation, and so I asked him whether I couldn’t be in his house for those two weeks. So he allowed me to if I would take care of his chickens. Well, they were all dead by the time he came back two week later. And his little girl said to me, “You died them, didn’t you?” Well, no. They died by themselves. I didn’t have to do anything about it.

Be My Strong Habitation by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Habitation
Scripture(s): Psalm 71:3
Description: Hiding in Him doesn’t mean to turn your eyes inside out and to breathe heavily and to look religious, but it means to be united to God. It means to let God Almighty take over, to shut you in with Himself so that wherever we are, whatever we do, we do and we are by Him, glory to God! “Father, I in them, and Thou in Me.” I think we see something of that in the life of Jesus. We know that God Almighty lived in Him, walked in Him, controlled Him—His mind, His words. He said, “The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself, but the Father that dwelleth in me…” It’s a great secret: “He that seeth Me hath seen the Father. Why sayest thou, ‘Show us the Father’?” And so He says, “He that eateth Me shall live by Me.” “Father, I in them…”

Become an inward Christian by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Inward Life
Scripture(s): John 4:10, 1 Corinthians 1:30
Description: I think this word of Jesus, “Ye shall neither in this mountain nor yet at Jerusalem worship God” might have knocked the bottom out of the enthusiasm of the Pentecostal convention that went to Jerusalem. My, people thought it was such a wonderful thing—and they have for 2000 years traveled to Jerusalem. And when you come there—I’ve been there twice myself—you find nothing like you find here, right in this room. I tell you the truth, you don’t. You can find in Brooklyn something that’s better than I’ve found in Jerusalem. People talk about… Jesus Christ said, “Neither in Jerusalem nor in this mountain.” And yet people travel all over the world to get some entertainment, and God is looking for men and women who will have sense enough to come to Him and do as He says. He is seeking men and women who worship Him “in spirit and in truth.” And in order to create such men and women, the Lord Jesus Christ has offered us a great and wonderful gift here. And I would like to impress our hearts tonight with the fact that Jesus Christ has a great blessing: “If thou knewest the gift of God.” Oh, to know that gift of God!

Become transparent through conviction by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Conviction
Scripture(s): Psalm 139:23-24, Hebrews 4:12
Description: “Live out Thy life within me, O Jesus King of kings, Be Thou Thyself the answer to all my questionings. Live out Thy life within me; in all things have Thy way, I Thy transparent medium, Thy glory to display.” How would you like to be transparent so that nothing of yourself would appear anywhere, but only Jesus Christ with His divine attributes would shine forth from within you? That’s what you are if you’re a real follower of Jesus Christ, or that’s what you will be if He has His way with you. “Ye are the epistle of Christ written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God.” And there’s no substitute for it.

Being Filled with the Spirit by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Filled With The Spirit
Scripture(s): Hebrews 3:1, Acts 19:2, Ephesians 1:17
Description: We need to know the Holy Ghost, because He’s our life. We need to drink of that Fountain of life. It isn’t sufficient to be baptized with the Holy Ghost, but now to walk in the Spirit, “e has translated you out of the kingdom of darkness.” How many people claim to be baptized with the Holy Ghost, and they’re satisfied to still live in the flesh, and they’re satisfied to still be governed by the flesh! That’s where our frowns come from. But beloved, that, the Bible says, is dangerous: “If we live in the flesh, we shall die.” We shall die! “But if ye live in the spirit…” Do you know the Spirit? Do you know the Holy Ghost? Is He your habitation? Is He your realm? Is He the ocean of life and of light and of grace and of love and of joy and of peace into which you’ve been sunk, deeply sunk, so that your whole being has been transformed into this ocean of love? “Have you received the Holy Ghost?”

Casting All Your Care upon Him by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Cares
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 5:7, Luke 12:7
Description: Hans Waldvogel speaks of how God cares for believers and even in the small things such as our very hairs on our head. Our Heavenly Father gives such care and attention to our life as we submit to his Lordship. We can give all parts of our being and life to him and we dishonour him when we do not submit to Him. God is to be the absolute ruler and king of our body, spirit and soul. Through the tests and trials in life allows us to continually choice to keep and trust our Lord with all our cares.

Choose your overcomer: Christ or the flesh by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Overcoming
Scripture(s): Colossians 1:23, Galatians 5:16
Description: I was making mention of an article in Time magazine the other day where churchmen of different churches and of great renown were expressing themselves about the conditions in the world, and what place the church held, and the preaching of the gospel. They said very nice things, but all of them missed the main thing. We have “turned to God from idols… to wait for His Son from heaven.” Every Christian’s job and responsibility is to prepare the way for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. “This is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.” But you cannot know “Jesus Christ whom He has sent” until you experience Him—until you live Him, praise God!—until He takes over.

Christ in Me by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Indwelling Christ
Scripture(s): John 1:12, 1 Corinthians 1:30
Description: And here, He tells you to come down. He tells you to “become as a little child.” And they all melted away and they left Him alone, and then He looked upon the twelve, and He said, “Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil.” I wonder if there’s a devil in this meeting. Beloved, we meet hearts that are as hard as a rock—Christian hearts! Judas—don’t me that Judas didn’t do miracles. Sure! Sure, he went out with the other disciples, laid hands on the sick, anointed them, sure enough. And yet he was a devil. Beloved, it means something to come down and to be filled with the Holy Ghost. It means something to be converted and to become as a little child, and only God can do it. And that’s why I say I marvel constantly at the persistence of the Lord Jesus Christ. In many different ways He brings the truth to us.

Christ, Our Indwelling Sanctifier by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Sanctifier
Scripture(s): John 17:10
Description: But, beloved, beside all the blessings, here’s the loving call of Jesus to our hearts: “I am glorified in them.” Oh, that’s my call—not just to be saved from hell, go to heaven, not just to be healed or baptized with the Holy Ghost, but to be so united to Jesus Christ that He shall be glorified in me. That’s what He says to the Father, that’s His divine will for all of us this morning. Tell me, are you on the way this morning to become like Jesus? You can file and hammer and saw and solder and let the fire burn and go through the acid all you want, and you’ll never be more than an old good-for-nothing. You can try and sanctify yourself, and you’ll never be more sanctified than you are right now. You’ll never change yourself. But, oh, when God changes me—when Jesus Christ changes me by coming to dwell within me—“I in them and Thou in Me”!

Christians are dying, no longer seeing or hearing Christ by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Voice Of God
Scripture(s): Romans 8:24-25, Romans 8:13
Description: We were discussing Romans 8 this morning, and in Romans 8 he says, “We are saved…” That’s the song that we sing everywhere: “We are saved,” “We’re saved.” When I first came here, a Schwäbish brother was telling about years ago, and he says, “I war no net g’saved jena Zeit.” Jetzt ischd’r g’saved. Bisch du au g’saved? We are saved. But the Bible says, “We are saved by hope.” And that’s the thing that gives me great joy: to know that the work we do here, we don’t do for a few years only, or for some glory—for some crown upon this earth, or recommendation by men. We’re not… we’re not geared to Brooklyn, or to this time, but we’re geared to eternity, to heaven, to the New Jerusalem. That’s the thing we have been working for, praise God! And 32 years is really a very, very short time when you think that the seed we sow is going to result in a harvest that’s going to go on forever and forever to the glory of God. And how very, very important it is that we get the sight of it—that we get the light of it.

Christmas Talk by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Christmas
Scripture(s): John 1:11, Luke 11:13, Romans 8:32
Description: I wonder what they had to tell when they got to heaven. I wonder what they had to tell, because there were other angels up there waiting and wondering what in the world happened when Jesus Christ the Son of God came among men. What happened? Oh, I think there must have been real sadness in heaven. “Why, they were all asleep—the whole city of the King. They were all asleep. We couldn’t even wake them up with our trumpets. We had to go out into the field where the shepherds were watching. They were awake. They were awake—they heard us.” I heard an Alliance preacher say that angels don’t sing. I don’t know. All our songs talk about angels singing. But the Bible doesn’t say that. They talked; they had a message—a very wonderful message, but nobody there to listen to it, nobody there to be interested. “He came unto His own…”—what a fact; how very wonderful: this entire Old Testament was a preparation for the coming of the King to this earth, and was intended to prepare hearts to be ready to receive Him. But when He came, there was “no form nor comliness that we should desire Him.” My goodness, who in the world would have looked for Him in a manger—in a manager in a stable?

Communion: He comes to fill us with His love and make us like Himself by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Communion
Scripture(s): Revelation 1:7, Matthew 25:6
Description: “Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him.” I thought tonight, “Isn’t it wonderful that you don’t have to crucify the Son of God?” The Bible talks about those who crucify Him by “sinning willfully after they have received the gospel.” And no man can come by the cross of Christ: either you accept the blessing of it and are crucified with Him, or you crucify Him again. Strange. But here, he says, “He comes with clouds, and every eye shall see Him.” I love to think of that moment when “in a moment, and in the twinkling of an eye,” He’s going to do something for me, thank God! Oh, I want to be there; I want to be there. I heard a little girl the other day. She was sitting on a couch. Her legs were far too short to reach the floor, and she was singing and beating with her feet, “I want to be there when the moon is turned to blood; I want to be there when the moon is turned to blood.” But I want to be there when “every eye shall see Him,” and when “all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him.”

 Confidence by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Confidence
Scripture(s): Hebrews 10:35, Proverbs 28:26, Ephesians 3:12
Description: “Cast not away therefore your confidence.” Confidence. Can you have confidence in anything at all today? Everybody lies. “All men are liars.” You might as well put it down in your notebook. “All men are liars,” but there’s One that’s not a liar. There’s One in Whom you can safely confide, and you’re commanded to have confidence in God. The Bible says, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.” But now, my God, who are You going to reward? Whom are You going to honor like that? Who do You want to have confidence in You? Me? Poor weak mortal—poor weak thing that cannot have confidence in himself!

Delight Thyself in the Lord by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Enjoying God
Scripture(s): Psalm 37:4. Colossians 2:9-10
Description: “Delight thyself also in the Lord.” We might be surprised to find out how much we delight ourselves in ourselves. It might be surprising, but we hear it in our testimonies, in our preaching, often. And when we don’t delight ourselves in ourselves, then we’re disgusted with ourselves. Everything revolves around this old washboard. We have been rubbing our knuckles through now for centuries, and we’re bleeding, and the washing machine is standing in the corner because we don’t know what it’ll do. We don’t get acquainted with it. We don’t read the directions.

Desiring the Sincere Milk of the Word by Hans R. Waldvogel

Topic: Word Of God
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 2:2, Ephesians 4:13, Act 20:32
Description: That is the great need: create desire within me; make me love you more, Jesus; make my soul to desire You. And there’s a very simple way to do that. The Bible tells us that “as newborn babes” we have to grow. “Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” Who would like to see a baby remain a baby? You wouldn’t like that, would you? You’d like to see them grow, get strong, get tall, become men and women. And so my God has ordained that His children should grow, and grow into the full stature of the full measure of the manhood in Christ Jesus.
