VVHere is the bill of your mothers divorcement] Implying, that she had rather forsaken him, then he her whom he had not forsaken, but for her own default, Deuteronomy 24:1. Jeremiah 3:8. Hosea 2:2. Vers. 2
which of my creditours is it to whom I have sold you] He had not sold them for want, or debt: as men might and did oft their children, Exodus 21:7. 2 Kings 4:1. Matthew 18:25. but they had sold themselves to sinne, to purchase liberty for their lusts and unlawfull desires and delights, Chap. 52. 3. 1 Kings 21:25. Judg. 2. 13, 14. and 3. 7, 8. Romans 6:13; Romans 6:16. 2 Peter 2:19.
Isaiah 50:2
when I came] By my minister and messengers, Jeremiah 15:19. & Jeremiah 35:14. Ephesians 2:17. 1 Pet. 3. 20.
was there no man] None that would hearken, to repent, beleeve, and obey, Chap. 53. 1. and 65. 2. Jeremiah 8:6. & 11. 7, 8. and 25. 3, 4. & 35. 17. Zechariah 7:11-12.
Is my hand shortned at all] Heb. shortning shortned. any whit shortned. See Numbers 11:23. Chap. 59. 1. Am not I still able to help you, as I did your fore-fathers, when I laid the red sea, and Jordan dry Exodus 14:21; Exodus 14:29. John 2:10. & John 3:16. Chap. 42. 15.
that it cannot redeem] Or, rescue. Psalms 107:2. Heb. from redption. or, rescuse. as Psalms 69:23. Chap. 49. 15.
at my rebuke I drie up the sea] Psalms 106:9. I do it with a word: though Gods rebuke be not a verball, but a reall and effectuall rebuke, Psal. 95. and 68. 30. yet what God thereby doth, he doth as easily, as if he did it with a word, Psalms 7:66.
their fish stinketh, &c.] Exodus 7:18. Chap. 19. 5, - 10.
Isaiah 50:3
I clothe the heavens with blacknesse] As I did in Egypt Exod. 10. 21, 23. in token of my displeasure, Joel 2. 31. Amos 5:8. Revelation 6:12.
Isaiah 50:4
The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned] God the Father hath furnished Christ his Sonne, with all manner of abilities requisite for the information and consolation of the faithfull, John 3:34. Col. 2. 3. 9.
to speak a word in season to him that is weary] Chap. 61. 1. Matthew 11:28.
he wakeneth the morning by morning] Heb. in the morning, in the morning. Chap. 28. 19. He doth incessantly, no by times and starts instruct me, John 5:20. & 8. 28, 38.
he wakeneth mine care to heare as the learned] To hear and attend diligently; as those that desire and affect to be learned, Joh. 7. 15, 16. & 8. 26. 28.
Isaiah 50:5
hath opened mine ear] Inured me to obedience, Psalms 40:6. Hebrews 5:8. to do his work, and fulfill his will in all things, Luke 2. 49. John 4:34. & 5. 19, 36. & 6. 38. & 8. 26, - 29. and 12. 49, 50. Hebrews 5:8.
I was not rebellious] John 14:31. Philippians 2:8. Hebrews 10:5, &c.
Neither turned away back] I did not slink, nor shrink away for any opposition or evill usage, Chap. 53. 7.

I gave my back to the smiters, &c.] Matthew 26:67. and Matthew 27:26.

that plucked off the hair] Of my beard. Ez. 9. 2. Nehem. 3. 23.
I hid not my face from shame and spitting] Job 30:10.
Isaiah 50:7
the LORD God wil help me,] He wil not leave me; but wil go along with me; and will enable me to go thorough with his work assigned me, Chap. 53. 10, 11. Psalms 118:7. Jeremiah 15:20. John 8:29. and John 16:23. and John 17:4. Heb. 5. 7, 9.
have I set my face like a flint] Hardened my self against all opposition, Ezekiel 3:8.
I shall not be ashamed] Chap. 29 22. Psalms 119:6.
Isaiah 50:8
He is neare that justifieth me] By the issue and event of my travell, approving my mission, and the acceptance of mine employment, Chap. 53. 10, 11. John 16:10. 1 Timothy 3:16. See Rom. 8. 31, 33. 34
let us stand together] Before the judge; as the accuser or plaintif and defendant, such as have suits in law one with another, are wont to do, Exodus 22:9. Deuteronomy 19:17.
who is mine adversarie] Heb. master of my cause. or, owner of my judgement. that impleadeth me, or entereth his action against me, Exodus 14:14.
will help me] Vers. 7.
they all] All mine adversaries and opposites, vers. 8.
shall wax old as a garment] Chap. 5. 6. Psalms 102:26.
the moth shall eat them up] Chap. 51. 8. Psalms 39:11.
Isaiah 50:10
Who is among you that feareth the LORD] Implying the small number of those, that sincerely fear God, and yoeld obedience to his word Psalms 90:11. Chap. 53. 1. John 3:11.
obeyeth the voyce of his servant] Christ; Chap. 42. 1. & 53. 11. speaking either by himself, or by his ministers, Luke 10:16. 2 Corinthians 5:20. and 2 Corinthians 13:3.
that walketh in darknesse, and hath no light] That is in the greatest depth of misery, without any means of relief or comfort, Chap. 8. 22. and 9. 19 Amos 5:18.
let him trust in the name of the LORD] Let him live and support himself, by faith in God; who is alone able to give inward light of joy and comfort, in the midst of all distresses, Exodus 10:22-23. Chap. 60. 2. Psal. 112. 4, 7. 1 Samuel 30:6. Hab. 2. 4. and 3. 17, 18. Hebrews 10:38.
stay upon his God] As a man stayeth up himself with a staffe, Psalms 18:18. and Psalms 23:4. Chap. 10. 20. so let him stay himself by dependance on God from sinking down and fainting through incredultie and despaire, Psalms 27:13.
Isaiah 50:11
all ye that kindle a fire, &c.] Ye, who refusing to walk in the light of Gods word, and to enjoy the warmth of that holy fire, seek comfort by devises of your own else-where; shall find nothing but sorrow and confusion in the end, Psalms 16:4. Joh. 5. 35, 40. & 8. 24. and 9. 39.
