the strangers] The Gentiles, Ephesians 2:12. shall joyn themselves to Gods Church. Psalms 47:9. Chap. 2. 3. and 44. 5. and 60. 3. Zechariah 2:10-11.
Isaiah 14:2
bring them to their place] Ezra 1:6. Chap. 66. 20.
for servants and handmaids] The converts shall freely offer themselves to the Church, to do her service. Chap. 60. 7, 10. and 61. 5. Romans 16:1-2. 1 Corinthians 16:15. 2 Corinthians 8:4-5.
whose captives they were] Heb. that had taken them captives.
Isaiah 14:4
proverb] Or, taunting speech. Ezekiel 16:44.
the oppressour] Chap. 16. 4.
golden citie] Or, exactresse of gold.

staff of the wicked] The might and power of the adversary, staff and scepter being, the one a sign of force and strength, Chap. 10. 5, 24. the other of authoritie. Genesis 49:10. Ezekiel 19:11.
Isaiah 14:6
who smote the people] He that smote others so fiercely, is now so smitten, as he cannot avoid the stroke, nor rid himself of it.
with &c.] Or, his stroke is without removall.
a continuall stroke] Heb. a stroke without removing.
Isaiah 14:7
earth is at rest] Which can have no rest, while tyrans reign. vers. 16.
Isaiah 14:8
the firre-trees] Their crueltie was so great, that the very senselesse creatures may seem to rejoyce at their fall, Jeremiah 51:48. Ezekiel 31:16. or, these trees, because they are not now hewen down so frequently, as before they were, for their shipping and their buildings.

Hell] Or, the grave vers. 15. Chap. 5. 14.
is moved] Or, raiseth up it self. as Chap. 28. 21.
the dead] The dead are brought in, as rejoycing at, and triumphing over ruinated Babylon, that had so insolently tyrannized over them, while they lived. Ezekiel 32:21.
dead] Or, giants. Deuteronomy 2:11, 0. called mightie ones. Ezekiel 23:21.
chief ones] Heb. great goats. Chap. 1. 11.
chief ones] Or, leaders. Jeremiah 50:8. and Jeremiah 51:40.

How art thou fallen] How art thou, that thoughtest thy self as glorious and conspicuous, as the day-star in the skie, fallen now from that thine illustrious estate? Lamentations 2:1.
O lucifer] Or, day-starre.
cut down to the ground,] Or, cut down, and cast to the ground. As Psal. 89. 39, 44. Chap. 22. 18. & 21. 9.

upon the mount] In the Temple of God, (situate on mount Moriah, 2 Chron. 3. 1. which mount stood on the North side of Zion, and was reckoned as part of it. Psalms 48:2.) as on Gods throne. Jeremiah 17:12. Dan. 8. 10, 11. and 11. 31, 36. So that sinfull Man, 2 Thessalonians 2 4.
of the congregation] Zion, or Moriah, the mountain of the solemn meetings of Gods people; as Jerusalem the citie. Chap. 33. 20. and 64. 10, 11. Psalms 122:3. 4.

hell] Or, grave. vers. 9.

look upon thee] As wondring at thy fall. vers. 12. Jeremiah 50:23.
Isaiah 14:17
opened not the house] Or, did not let his prisoners loose homeward. (as Chap. 51. 14. Jeremiah 40:4.) that they might have libertie to return to their own countrey. Jeremiah 50:33.
Isaiah 14:18
in his own house] In the sepulchers of their ancestors: or, in their own possessions. Jud. 2. 9. 1 Samuel 25:1. 1 Kings 2:10. 2 Kings 12:21.
Isaiah 14:19
cast out] Thou shalt have no honorable sepulture afforded thee Joshua 7:26. and Joshua 8:29. 2 Samuel 18:17. Jeremiah 22:19.
an abominable branch] A rotten bough, nor worth taking up.
the raiment] So polluted with gore-bloud, that none can endure to touch. Chap. 9. 5.
to the stones of the pit] Cast into any pit, or quarrey, that cometh next to hand. 2 Samuel 18:17.
a carcasse troden under feet] Some vile carion. Jeremiah 22:9.

joyned with them] Not be buried in solemn manner, as they were. vers. 18.

slaughter for his children] Ye Medes and Persians, that are to execute Gods judgement on Babylon. Chap. 13. 3.

shall be alone] They shall all be ready and joyn together.
appointed times] Or, assemblies.
Isaiah 14:32
shall one then answer] Or, shall then be answered. as vers. 30.
of the nation] That shall come to enquire of the state of Gods people. Chap. 39. 1. 2 Kings 20:12.
the LORD hath founded Zion] That the Lord as he hath founded, Psal. 87. 1, 5. so defendeth his Church, and those that joyn themselves thereunto. Chap. 37. 32, 35. Psal. 102. 13, 16.
trust in it] Or, betake themselves unto it. as to a refuge, or place of retreat. Psalms 104:19.
