The term “hand” (יָד, yad) is often used in idioms denoting hostility (Exodus 9:3, 15; Deuteronomy 2:15; Judges 2:15; 1 Samuel 5:3, 6, 9; 6:9; 2 Samuel 24:16; 2 Chronicles 30:12; Ezra 7:9; Job 19:21; Psalms 109:27; Jeremiah 15:17; 16:21; Ezekiel 3:14). The reference to God’s “hand” is anthropomorphic.
