O Give thanks unto the Lord] Psalms 106:1. and Psalms 118:1. and Psalms 136:1. This notable sentence was in the beginning used as the foot or tenour of the song, which was oftentimes repeated.
Psalms 107:2
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so] As this was true in the Jews, so there is none of Gods elect that feel not his help in their necessity.
redeemed] Or, rescued.

from the south] Heb. from the sea. That is, from the red-sea, which stood southward from the land of Canaan: elsewhere from the sea, is from the west, because the Mediterranean sea stood westward.
