Grain Offering - Leviticus 2
Jacob Prasch

James Jacob Prasch (birth year unknown–present). Born near New York City to a Roman Catholic and Jewish family, Jacob Prasch became a Christian in February 1972 while studying science at university. Initially an agnostic, he attempted to disprove the Bible using science, history, and archaeology but found overwhelming evidence supporting its claims, leading to his conversion. Disillusioned by Marxism, the failures of the hippie movement, and a drug culture that nearly claimed his life, he embraced faith in Jesus. Prasch, director of Moriel Ministries, is a Hebrew-speaking evangelist focused on sharing the Gospel with Jewish communities and teaching the New Testament’s Judeo-Christian roots. Married to Pavia, a Romanian-born Israeli Jewish believer and daughter of Holocaust survivors, they have two children born in Galilee and live in England. He has authored books like Shadows of the Beast (2010), Harpazo (2014), and The Dilemma of Laodicea (2010), emphasizing biblical discernment and eschatology. His ministry critiques ecumenism and charismatic excesses, advocating for church planting and missions. Prasch said, “The Bible is God’s Word, and its truth demands our full commitment.”

Sermon Transcription
My name is Jacob. I'm happy to be in your wonderful country. As I've mentioned, it reminds me of Israel and Northern Ireland. If you see Israel or Northern Ireland or South Africa through the eyes of the international media, you get a very unbalanced picture. When you come and see for yourself, you realize that in most ways it's a place just like anywhere else. It has its problems, but it also has its good points. It has its bad people, but it also has its good people. And that's true in every troubled area of the world I've ever been to. It's certainly true in Israel. It's certainly true in Northern Ireland, and it's certainly true in South Africa. Be that as it may, just one or two things. We have a newsletter if you'd like it. It's free. And we have a tour to Israel once a year. We call it Seeing the Holy Land through Hebrew Eyes. This year we'll be going to Israel, Jordan, and a brief trip to Egypt and Mount Sinai with an optional week to the early Christian rooms in Rome, the catacombs and so on, and Circus Maximus and Florentine prison where Paul was imprisoned. I speak Hebrew. We speak it at home. It's our main language at home. And our tours are different than other tours. It's not a vacation or a holiday package or a pilgrimage or a devotional tour. There are other tours that do those things, and some of them are very good. We have a study tour. Our emphasis is to study the scriptures from a Hebrew perspective on site. It's not suitable for small children. It's not suitable for very elderly people or handicapped people. It's a long day, and some of the biblical sites are difficult to get to. Crawling through tunnels and all this kind of thing. What makes it different, first of all, is the tour is led by someone who speaks the language and who has lived in Israel, my family are Israeli. Secondly, the Bible studies. We teach the scriptures from a Jewish perspective, and you'll have a little taste of what that is today. Thirdly, most of what people hear about Israel, they hear from ex-patriots. People who don't speak Hebrew, who don't live in Israel, they just go there and write books and send out tapes. When you come with us, you meet together with Israeli-Jewish and Israeli-Arab believers. You'll hear the testimonies of Jews who were saved in the Holocaust. You'll hear the testimonies of Jews who were saved in underground churches under the Communists before they immigrated to Israel. We want our people to see what God is really doing in Israel. We want you to meet the Jewish believers and some of the Arab believers and see what is really happening. Not all this stuff you get from these books and tapes and things, most of which are highly romanticized and don't know what they're on about. And finally, we go to twice as many places, on the average, as most tours of historical and biblical interest. Twice as many places. So our people get better value for money than they do with other tours. Now, the difficult thing is, it's long days. You're going to twice as many places, you're on and off the buses all the day, having Bible studies on site and then going back to the hotel and after dinner having another Bible study. It's a study tour. It's not a holiday. After you come with us, you'll need a holiday if you'd like to join us. But that's it. It's not for everyone. See the Holy Land through Hebrew eyes. I speak Hebrew and all the guides who come, they'll all be Israeli believers. They'll be led by believers who are Israeli. You'll meet, have meetings with Israeli Christians and so on, Messianic Jews. But that's that. In any event, let's look at Leviticus chapter 2. In Hebrew, we call the book of Leviticus, Then God called. There you pray. Heavenly Father, we just ask you now to meet with us in the power and presence of your Holy Spirit. We ask you, Lord God, to open our eyes, our minds, and above all, our hearts to the glory and meaning of your word. In your grace and in your sense, Father, we ask you to help us to be not only hearers of your word, but do us also in Jesus' name for Jesus' sake. Our God, our Messiah, we thank you for all the blessings we have received from you. Heavenly Father, open our eyes to the glory of your word. Open our hearts. Also, let us receive from you the truth according to your promise of your word. In the name of Jesus Christ, our goal is our faith and our Jesus. Amen. Leviticus chapter 2. Now, when anyone presents a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be a fine flour, and he shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it. He then shall bring it to Aaron's sons, the priests, and shall take from it this handful of the fine flour and of its oil with all of its frankincense. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke as its memorial portion on the altar. An offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord. And the remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons, a thing most holy of the offering to the Lord by fire. Now, when you bring an offering of a grain offering baked in an oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, or unleavened wafers spread with oil. And if your offering is a grain offering made on the griddle, it shall be a fine flour unleavened with mixed, unleavened mixed with oil. You shall break it into bits and pour oil on it. It is a grain offering. Now, if your offering is a grain offering made in a pan in a skillet, it shall be made of fine flour with oil. When you bring in the grain offering, which is made of these things to the Lord, it shall be presented to the priest and he shall bring it to the altar. The priest, then, shall take up from the grain offering its memorial portion and shall offer it up in smoke on the altar as an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord. And the remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons, a thing most holy of the offering to the Lord by fire. No grain offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall not offer up in smoke any leaven or any honey as an offering by fire to the Lord. As an offering of first fruit, you shall bring them to the Lord, but they shall not ascend for a soothing aroma on the altar. Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt so that the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt. Also, if you bring a grain offering of early ripened things to the Lord, you shall bring fresh heads of grain roasted in the fire, grits of new growth. For the grain offering of your early ripened things, you shall then put oil on it and lay incense upon it. It is a grain offering, and the priest shall offer up in smoke its memorial portion, a portion of its grits and its oil with all the incense as an offering by fire to the Lord. The grain offering. When most born-again Christians begin to read things like this, they go through it rather quickly if they bother to read it at all. What does it mean for us? How is it important for us? However, when the person called Rabbi Shaul of Tarsus, better known as Saint Paul the Apostle, wrote to Timothy, all Scripture is inspired. He was certainly speaking of the Old Testament, and at that point, much of the New Testament had not even yet been written. The Old Testament, the Tanakh, was the Scripture of the first Christians. It was the only Scripture they had until the Apostles began to write. Now, we say in Latin, as Karl Barth, the theologian, put it, Novum testamentum in veterae laetet, the new is in the old, concealed. The old prime synod brethren, you don't have many of those in Africa, but they were quite interesting people in many respects. They used to say, the new is in the old, concealed. The old is in the new, revealed. This is very important. We interpret the Old Testament, the might of the new, but we understand the new revelation in Christ, the might of its Jewish heritage is loose. No person is going to understand the meaning of the Torah, the Tanakh, the Old Testament, unless he understands it in light of the New Testament revelation of Jesus. On the other hand, someone's understanding of the New Covenant is going to be very superficial unless they understand it in light of its foundation, which Romans 11 tells us is his life. With this in view, let's look a bit further. Let's look at the epistle to the Hebrews, chapter 8, verse 5. Who serve a copy and a shadow of heavenly things? The entire temple cultus, the sacrificial system instituted by God through Moses, is a shadow or a copy or a type of something spiritual or heavenly. Similarly, in chapter 9 of Hebrews, verse 22, we read this. And according to the law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood, there's no forgiveness of sins. This actually comes from the Septuagint. It's a quote from the Greek Old Testament, not the Hebrew. Therefore, it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed, etc. These things are copies of things spiritual. One thing we're told in Hebrews, what we read in Leviticus, is that the Aaronic high priesthood and the Levitical priesthood, Aaron is a type of Jesus, isn't he? And we'll be looking at that in a moment. All of the Old Testament sacrifices, all of them, typify or point to the Lord Jesus in some way. All of them. He is the Passover lamb. He is the sa'are zazel, the yom kippur sheep goat. But he's also the grain offering. The rabbis tell us in the Talmud, that matzah, unleavened bread, eaten with the Jewish Passover Seder, the Passover meal. If you've ever seen matzah, it has to be striped and pierced. Because Jesus, as we read in Isaiah 53, was striped and pierced to our transgressions. And it corresponds, the rabbis even tell us in their liturgy called the matzah, to the flesh of the lamb. This grain offering, then, would be offered in one of three ways. On an open grill, in a skillet, or in an oven. It would be consumed as an offering in three ways. On an open fire, a grill, in a skillet, partially enclosed but partially open from the top, or in an oven. We have a tremendous heresy in the body of Christ today. An evil lie of Satan. All of Satan's tricks are designed to take our eyes off of one of three things, or some combination of them. Christ crucified, Christ risen, Christ coming again. The devil will always try to take our eyes off of one of those three things, if not all of them. The cross, the empty tomb, and the Mount of Olives. Beginning with the cross. Let's talk about the way Satan is trying to take people's eyes off the cross of Jesus. I was speaking to a group of people the other day, and one of the phenomena we have in the body of Christ today is the phenomena of inner healing. And Christian counseling ministries that are more to secular psychology than they do to the word of God. Now the best psychology book ever written is the book of Proverbs. I agree with secular psychology to the exact extent it agrees with the word of God. Once it departs from the word of God, I no longer agree with it. Take people from hurt backgrounds. An abused child, a sexually abused child, a scorned wife, somebody who had a lot of hurt in their life. And they get saved, they become born again. The Bible says all things are new to those in Christ Jesus. The biblical basis for dealing with past hurts, biblically, is the cross. It's always predicated on two things. The first is, God is perfect and I'm not. Therefore, no matter what I have against somebody else, no matter what they did to me, I'm not perfect. And because God is perfect, He has a lot more to hold against me than I do anyone else. Now if I want Him to forgive me, He says He'll do that. Providing I trust Him for the grace to forgive others. That's the first phase of forgiveness. The cross. But secondly, it's this. All things are new to those in Christ Jesus. You're not a recovering alcoholic when you get saved, or a recovering drug addict, or a recovering compulsive gambler. You're a dead one. He's dead. The abused child is dead. The alcoholic is dead. You're a new creation. Therefore, reckon yourself. The Greek meaning of reckon is take into account as if. So in secular psychology, in the early 70s, we have the emergence of something known as primal therapy. People begin reliving past hurts as a way to come to terms with their pain, to become liberated from their anguish. And it got very popular when one of the Beatles, John Lennon, went through this and made a record album based on it. And from there it came into the yuppies and very much involved with the trendy types of people. You've got to go back to your past hurts. Now the Bible says, reckon yourself dead. That scorned child, that scorned wife, that sexually abused child, he's dead. I'm a new creation. Reckon yourself dead. Look at the cross. You died with Christ. You rose with Him. This becomes a subtle form of spiritual seduction to get you to disinter the corpse of the old man or the old woman, to dig up the dead body and live in it. Do you understand? That's what it becomes. That's what it becomes. Get your eyes off the cross. Get your eyes off the empty tomb. Instead of you being dead with Christ and resurrected with Him, you're back in your old creation. And of course they camouflaged this. They put this in Christian packaging. And it looks good to people, but it doesn't help people. It puts people in bondage. It puts people in spiritual bondage. It puts people in psychological bondage. It puts them in emotional fetters and keeps them from having the real liberation that God has for them. And on top of that, people make money on it. Christian counseling is like secular psychiatry. People make a lot of money on it. These books and things, whole thing's a racket. I'm not saying there are not honest Christian counselors who are Bible-based, but a lot of this stuff is just spiritual seduction. The cross is central. We live in a consumer society. Phone in, give us your credit card number, give us your Visa card, and you can have this. It was in the States about a week ago, and you put it on, and you see there's television stations with no programming, no programs, just commercials. That's all it is. Phone in and you can have this. Name it and claim it. So people wind up with a name it and claim it Christianity. They rewrite Christianity as a Western consumerist religion. They're not repackaging it, or contextualizing it to witness to people in consumerism. They're redefining it. So you wind up with Ray McCauley's friends from America, like Kenneth Hagin and Kenneth Copeland. Name it and claim it. Where's the cross? God wants you rich, you're a king's kid. Now where do they get this? They come up with a doctrine called Jesus died spiritually under the influence of a heretic called E.W. Kenyon. In a sense, Jesus did suffer in his spirit, but not in the sense these people mean. He happened in the way Leviticus 2 teaches, which we'll look at in a moment. Mr. Hagin and Mr. Copeland, and mentors of yours, Mr. and Ray McCauley, say that when the Lord Jesus died on the cross, Satan got the victory. Now Jesus said when he died on the cross, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. It is finished. These men say it is not. When the Lord Jesus died on the cross, he became a satanic being in hell of one nature with Lucifer. He was tortured in hell for three days and three nights, and then Jesus had to be born again. So that's what Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin believe. And this is where Mr. McCauley and Mr. Rodney Brown from your country draw their influences. So therefore, because the cross of Jesus is not central to their view of salvation, neither is the cross of Jesus central to their view of the Christian life. Instead of pick up your cross and follow me and exchange it one day for a crown, if you're a king, kidnap it and claim it. God wants you rich. The natural partner for this lie is kingdom now theology. Over-realized eschatology and unionism, the stuff that Rick Godwin teaches. Natural partner for it. These heresies, it's like your covalency with atoms. Gaining and losing electrons. There are certain elements which will tend to naturally form bonds with other ones. The same as true doctrine can yield, false doctrine can yield. They have natural partners. They have natural attraction. So you wind up with a big combustion of heresy because these false doctrines become natural dead fellows to each other. You wind up with another guy. You'll find the same people who get caught up in this are the same ones who would often be the most prone to ecumenism. My family background is a combination of the worst two races of people in the world. My family background is a combination of Jewish and Irish Catholics. The worst two races of people in the world. And as I tell people, my wife and myself tell people, we've seen two false religions in our lives. One, a total corruption of the Old Testament which is the Dinnikudaism, denies Jesus as Messiah. And the other, Roman Catholicism. A total corruption of the new. So we've seen two false religions. One, a total corruption of the Old Testament and the other, a total corruption of the new. Which says, sacrament administered by a priest of the vehicles of salvation. You're not saved by regeneration by being born again. You're saved by the sacraments administered by a priest. It's another gospel. Now Paul says, writing under the influence of the Spirit, even if an angel of God comes with another gospel, get away from him. But you find evangelicals lining up with Rome, with liberal Protestants, people who have a social gospel. One of the main problems we have in Jewish evangelism, I'm an evangelist for the Jews, are organizations like Christian Action for Israel and the International Christian Embassy. People who say you can bless Israel and the Jews without evangelizing them. A purely social gospel. Believe me, a love for the Jews that does not give the Jews Jesus is not the love of Jesus. When Isaac Labine died, Isaac Labine had a lot of contact with Christian Zionists who wanted to bless Israel with social gospels and with political support. One second after he was assassinated, he stood before his Messiah. If Isaac Labine could come back now for even one second, he would say to the International Christian Embassy and to Malcolm Heading in your country, why didn't you tell me if you loved me? Why didn't you tell me about my Messiah? I'm eternally separated from the God of my fathers. You knew the truth and you didn't tell me. And you didn't tell me in the name of love for my people? Another gospel. It's the evangelicals getting into this, you understand? And then you wind up with this cheap grace, put up your hand, decision making without telling people the real cost. That's what it is. If an angel of God comes with another gospel, tell them to get lost. These people teach another gospel. They don't fight over every issue. But there are essential. For instance, in my opinion, baptizing babies is absolutely crazy. I'm sure I'm offending somebody. Don't take it personally. I think it's crazy. But I know people who love Jesus as much as I do, maybe more so, who disagree with me. The fact that I disagree with them on that point is no barrier to fellowship. I can still accept them as my brethren. I can still work with them up to a certain point. I couldn't be in a church that baptized babies. But I'm not going to let it be a barrier to my willingness to fellowship and to cooperate in the work of the gospel and Christian charity with others who do it. Even though I wouldn't do it. I know people who say if you don't pray in tongues, you're not baptized with the Holy Spirit. You're not filled with the Holy Spirit. I'm absolutely convinced from Scripture that this is crazy. It is simply not biblical. They're reading something into the Bible that it doesn't say. Nonetheless, they're still my brethren. I'm not going to cut myself off from them. I know people, on the other hand, who are cessationists, who try to argue that the gift of the Spirit feeds with the apostles or some other point and God cannot and does not work this way anymore or something like this. For me, this is co-equally unbiblical, reading something into a text of 1 Corinthians that it doesn't say. However, even though I know people who think that way and I disagree with them, it doesn't any less make them my brother or sister. I'm still willing to fellowship with them and to work with them in getting the gospel out and so on. Do all kinds of things. I'm staunchly premillennial. Would you understand eschatology from a Jewish perspective? It's impossible to be anything less than a premillennialist. I can argue very plausibly from a Jewish perspective that if there's no millennia, Jesus could not have been the Jewish Messiah, and if he's not the Messiah of the Jews, neither is he the Christ of the Church. I can argue that, but I know people who disagree. So, under all issues, they're important issues, but they're not what's most important. They have their place, but their place should never be to bring division between Bible-believing Christians, to the point that they wouldn't fellowship with each other, that they wouldn't cooperate in evangelism, that they wouldn't cooperate in withstanding the flood of evil and helping the poor, and also standing against error, heresy. But there are issues where we have to divide. There are four. There are four issues we never ever compromise on. The first is the person of the Lord Jesus, his deity, and the trinity of the Godhead. If people have an unbiblical Christology, a low Christology, a wrong view of Jesus or of the trinity, that is it. Now, it's not simply Jesus, it's the Holy Spirit. So many people are running around today, the Holy Spirit this, the Holy Spirit that, whatever spirit it is, it is not the Holy Spirit. We worship the Holy Spirit as God in the trinity of the Godhead. Within the trinity we worship him, but that is all. No place is the Holy Spirit ever prayed to in the Bible. He always points people to Jesus. All the stuff you see with Benny Hinn, Good Morning Holy Spirit, and these hymns, Holy Spirit we worship you, it is not biblical. Unbiblical worship will lead to false worship. An alien spirit will get in and counterfeit the Holy Spirit. And that's what you see with Toronto. I was just in Toronto. It's an alien spirit counterfeiting the Holy Spirit. It's spiritual seduction, cum laude. We never compromise on the person of the Lord Jesus or the trinity of the Godhead. It includes the Oneness Pentecostals, the Jesus Only, all this stuff. Secondly, irretentive immorality. I know today, cases with ministers are getting divorced from other Christians, from Christian women, and they're still allowed to be ministers. And nobody is saying they're doing anything about it. I studied medicine at the University as a kid, and to this day a lot of my closest friends are Christian medical doctors. And one of my closest friends was a medical doctor, an audiologist, very top man in the medical profession in diagnosing congenital birth defects concerning hearing in fetuses in unborn babies. He's the world's number one expert. He's also a minister in a church and a professor in a medical college. He divorced a Christian wife and married another one. I lost my best friend. I lost my best friend. It hurts me to this day. Irretentive immorality. We don't compromise. Third, the authority of the Word of God. If experience, experiential theology, or some tradition you search or challenges or is even equated with the authority of God's Word as doctrines, we don't compromise. And fourthly, the gospel of Jesus. How is sin atoned for? If they have another gospel, like Rome does, there is no basis for fellowship. Born again believers in the Roman Catholic Church, if they're truly born again, once shown the truth, they will leave. Come out of her my people. Doesn't say they're not his people, but if you are mine, get out. And that goes the same for liberal Protestantism. Those are the four wishes we find. But here, we're talking about the gospel. They are saying Jesus died spiritually. Now let's understand this in light of the grain offerings. The grill, the skillet, and the open fire. Jesus suffered physically, psychologically, and emotionally, and spiritually. He suffered in every aspect of his being. We are a maggio dei, made in God's image and likeness. God is triune, so we're triune. We have a body, a soul, and a spirit. When Jesus died physically on the cross and was being physically tormented for my sins and for your sins, it was clearly visible what was happening. Everyone could see the grain being consumed. That was sight and hear, he understands. Everyone could see it. It was totally visible. His physical suffering was visible. That's the grain being sacrificed on the open fire on the grill. He suffered physically. He was tortured by our sins. It says in Isaiah 52, he was, he formed beyond human recognition. But then was told the travail of his soul. Jesus was tormented psychologically and emotionally. In the spirit it was only visible partially from above. Only God could totally see it looking down as it were. You understand the typology. When someone is in psychological anguish, emotional turmoil, their suffering is only partially visible to another person. You can see part of it, but you can't understand the depths of it. Only God can. When you're going through emotional crisis, other people can be sympathetic, they can try to understand you, but the only one who really sees all of it is the one who can look down from above. Understand. But then there's the third way it was offered. In the oven. Closed up. Nobody could see what was in that oven. What transpired when the father turned his back on his own son Jesus is something that we will never be able to fathom until we get to heaven. A God who was truly one, yet a God who was three, and a father turning his back on his son. What happened within the trinity of the Godhead will always be something of a mystery until we get to heaven. When God put our sins on Jesus, when he who knew no sin became sin, and a holy perfect God couldn't look on it, we will never understand the spiritual suffering of Christ. We can somehow understand part of his, or much of his physical suffering, they crucified cadavers and things like this, and done medical experiments, and we can understand something perhaps even of his psychological and emotional suffering. But what happened in the spirit realm between him and the father, the real suffering of Jesus was being cut off from his father. That's not to minimize his physical torment, or his emotional anguish. But what really happened was a thing of the spirit. It's a mystery. It was in the oven. In some way, you see what Mr. Hagen and Mr. Copeland and these people do is what the devil always does. It's not an out-and-out lie. It's a perversion of a truth. Prosperity theology is not an out-and-out lie. It is a perversion of a truth. It is a corruption of a truth. Look at this continent. For all of its many faults, and I don't justify its faults, this country had a certain amount of biblical influence in its models of economy, government, and culture, the same as the other western democracies. That translates to a higher level of standard of living. Even the poor people in the townships are much better off here than some of the people I can show you in the black African countries. And the only reason that is true is because of the biblical influences. Now that the western countries have turned their backs on the biblical influence, that's why you see the decline of western civilization. Life's going down. Okay? Righteousness will have brought the nation. It is the truth. These people will take that truth and pervert it into something for their own advisement. A cross with Christianity. Another Christ. A false gospel. That's what they're doing. Yes, Jesus was afflicted spiritually the same as he was emotionally and physically. That's true. In some way, something happened in that oven. How can his father turn his back on his son? You're going to get all these questions. Can God turn his back on himself? It's a mystery to us. We can't fully understand the trinity of the Godhead. Beyond the point that God reveals it in his words. But they twist it. The devil always twists it. Ecumenism is another one. The ecumenical movement is a perversion of a biblical truth. That they may be one. Yeah, but one on the basis of truth. Not one on the basis of error. You can't have the unity of the Holy Spirit as the spirit of truth. He's not the spirit of error. You can't have a genuine unity of the spirit based on error. You can only have the unity of the spirit based on truth. Again, it's perverse as truth. It's all perversion. Many false teachers, false messiahs, and false prophets will come in the last days if possible to deceive, even de-elect. And I'm very sorry. See, my family, I was born in, my family is from Britain, immigrated to America. I immigrated to Israel. My wife was Romanian Jew. She was born in Romania. Her parents are Holocaust survivors. And our children were born in Galilee, in Israel. And now we live in Britain again. I keep getting kicked out of everywhere. I've done the full circle. And I'm very sorry to say for my own, just my own family background. The three countries that have had the most biblical influences in their foundations as societies have been the three of which I have family connections. The United Kingdom, the United States, and Israel are the three countries that have had the most biblical influence in their foundations as societies. And all three are backslidden nations. I'm also sorry to say that the seminal influence forever being pumped into the veins of the body of Christ globally. The largest percentage of it is coming from the United States and from South Africa. Satan is using America and your country to corrupt the gospel in the most countries in the world. You see, as white Protestant Christianity declines, as white Protestant Christianity declines, the gospel is exploding in the Roman Catholic countries, the Eastern Orthodox countries, and in the developing world. As we said yesterday on the tape, the future of the gospel will be in the hands of the black man, the yellow skin man, the olive skin man, the white people being saved in large numbers. If you look at a map of Europe, where is Evangelical Christianity dying? England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Holland. Where are the churches going? Albania, Romania, Russia, the Eastern Orthodox countries, Southern Europe, Roman Catholic countries, Spain, Italy. Countries that never had the Reformation. Here, so much of the charismatic and even increasingly Pentecostal is caught up in the ecumenical movement. However, God's biggest weapon against the Roman Catholic Church in the world today is the Pentecostal Church. You go to South America, in Santiago, Chile, 20,000 people leave the Roman Catholic Church every week and become Pentecostal. In Guatemala, 10% of the people left the Roman Catholic Church in 10 years and became Pentecostal. The Philippines, it's the same thing. That's why the Pope keeps going back to Latin America doing his tap dance. It's good to see you. Please don't leave. It's a strange thing. Pentecostalism here has gone headlong into all manner of error. In the developing world, it's throwing back Islam, it's throwing back Roman Catholicism, it's throwing back Eastern religion. That's what's happening. But now that God is turning His grace from the rich countries to the poor ones, and from the Protestant countries to the Catholic ones, and increasingly before Jesus comes, mark my words, from the Gentile nations back to the Jews, Romans 11, Romans 11, Satan is taking this kind of poison and putting it into the developing world and into the Catholic world. The posterity preaching, the Kingdom Now, this stuff, in South Africa is a platform for launching this poison into Central Black Africa. The posterity teachings of Copeland and Hagen, Raymond, is pumping this stuff into these countries. So Satan is trying to use these people who destroyed Western Protestant Christianity, and now he's using them to inject poison into the veins of the body of Christ in the developing world. And I'm very sorry to say that most of the error in the world today is coming from the United States and South Africa. Rodney Howard Brown, Kenneth Copeland, Ray McCauley, that's what's happening. These people are in a spiritual battle here. You really are? You really are? They have everything. They have the numbers, they have the money, they have the media. But you have the truth. You have Jesus. Amen. Let's look further. The grain is consumed on the grill. Jesus died physically. The grain is consumed in the skillet. He was tortured psychologically. The grain is consumed in the oven. Something happened within the trinity of the Godhead itself when Jesus died to our sins. But let's look further. They had to put incense and oil upon it. The prayer, the offering, an acceptable sacrifice. The incense, isn't it? But spread it with oil. Different liquids typify the Holy Spirit in different aspects of His ministry. Different liquids typify the Holy Spirit in different aspects of His ministry. Haim in Hebrew, living water. Look at Isaiah 44 3. Thirsty land and streams and the dry ground. I'll pour out my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on your descendants. The Holy Spirit outpoured. Living water is what it forms. Living water is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, isn't it? John chapter 7, verse 39. What does it say? He who believes in me, as the Scripture said, from his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. Drawing on the background of Ezekiel 47, what we call in Hebrew, Simcha bet ha-shoiva, from the Feast of Tabernacles. But then it says in verse 39, this He spoke of the Spirit who knows who believed in Him were to receive. The maim haim, the living water is the Holy Spirit being outpoured. Rain. Then there's the Holy Spirit in worship. That's called the new wine. If you want to know how the charismatic movement is going to end up, look at Isaiah 24, 7. He points out very quickly that I do not deny for one second that the charismatic movement began as an authentic work of God's Spirit. But I also do not deny that very quickly, because of experiential theology and compromise, it degenerated into something hopeless and useless. Probably more destructive than good. This movement is 30 years old. The charismatic renewal is 30 years old. Is there less crime now than there was 30 years ago? Is there less homosexuality? Is there less abortion? Is there less racism or social injustice? Is there less Eastern religious influence in the media or the schools? No, there's more. This movement has totally and categorically failed to bring spiritual revival, renewal, repentance to Western society. How could it? I live in Great Britain. 30 years ago, before the charismatic renewal, you wouldn't have found the bishop denying the resurrection of the virgin birth. 30 years ago, you wouldn't have found that. But you find it now. When the bishop of Durham denied the resurrection of the virgin birth, two-thirds of the other bishops defended him in England. I'm happy to say that throughout most of Black Africa, every single Black African bishop is a born-again believer, except for Desmond Tutu. He wouldn't have found this 30 years ago. He wouldn't have found it before the renewal. Renew what? Renew what? This movement hasn't even renewed the church. How's it going to renew the society? You want to know how it's going to end? Book of Isaiah 24, 7. The new wine mourns. The vine decays. All the merry-hearted sigh. The gaiety of the tambourine ceases. The noise of the revelers stops. And the gaiety of the heart comes to an end. The party's over, kids. The new wine is the Holy Spirit in worship. But he mourns. He sees what's happening. See, this kind of frivolity and excess you see, the charismania, it's not new. It's always been around. In the early church, it was called Montanism. During the Reformation, it was the Munster Anabaptists. In the Old Testament, it had its equivalents. Isaiah Jeremiah 15, I cannot sit in the circle of the merry-makers. This stuff has always been around. But let's look. So there's the new wine. But the anointing of the Spirit, sin and oil, is different. The grain had to have oil poured on it. Why? Why? Before Jesus was anointed for power or dominion, he was anointed for burial. Let's look at this silly garbage we're being told today by the money preachers and the Kingdom Now heretics. Touch not my anointing. I can do what I want. I can turn the ministry of the gospel into a racket and live like the king at the expense of exploiting the poor and disenfranchised, living in the townships and in the council estates and in the squatter's tents. Because I'm God's anointed. And don't criticize me because I'm His anointed. Let's get to the basis of this lie. Where does that verse come from? Touch not my anointing. It's in Chronicles and it's in Samuel. King David would not touch Saul because Saul was God's anointed. Did that ever stop King David or the prophet Samuel from telling the truth about King Saul that he was a backslidden, treacherous murderer? Well, it shouldn't stop you from telling the truth about Rodney Brown or Ray McCauley. Amen! Benson Iahosa or Kenneth Copeland. Assuming, of course, they are God's anointed, which is a very big question. Let's look at this subject of the oil, the anointing. Turn with me to the book of Acts chapter 2, the day of Pentecost, please. At verse 33, therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He's poured forth this which you both see and hear. So, the Spirit, the oil, is poured out, right? But who was it poured out on? Look at verse 36. Therefore, let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him, Jesus, both Lord and Christ, Christo, Hebrew, Hamashiach, the Anointed One. This Jesus, whom you crucified, pay attention. The Hebrew Hamashiach, the definite article. The oil is poured out, making Him the Anointed One, the Christ, the Christo, the Mashiach. This Jesus, whom you crucified, notice it immediately connects anointing with crucifixion. Before Jesus was anointed for power or dominion, He was anointed for burial. Anybody who really has God's anointing will be anointed for burial. Look at St. Paul, Rabbi Shaul of Tarsus, in Galatians, what was the purpose of anointing as an apostle? Was it all the people who got saved? And they really got saved, not put your hand up. All the churches he planted. No, that wasn't to prove either. The miracles and signs and wonders and healings when He did real ones. A lot of the stuff you see today is bogus. That wasn't to prove either. Or did the fact that God used Him to write so much of the New Testament? No, that was not to prove His anointing either. Not the numbers saved, not the healings, not the miracles, not the signs and wonders. Not the books of the Bible He wrote. Churches planted. None of that was the proof of His anointing. What was the proof in Galatians? Stigmata in Greek. I bear the marks of Christ on my body. A crucified life. That was the proof of His anointing. Jesus was anointed for burial before He was dominion. Before He was power. Signs and wonders prove nothing about anybody but Jesus. Lord, did we not do signs and wonders in your name? Yeah, you did. Get lost. They prove nothing about anybody but Him. These signs follow. Jesus never allowed signs and wonders to become central. They follow. He would never amplify signs and wonders above His message. Neither would the apostles. Jesus said it's a wicked generation that seeks the signs. When you see people getting on these airplanes and flying to Toronto. I was in Toronto on business about a month ago and I visited that place. I'd already seen the videos, but I wanted to be fair. What I saw in that place at Airport Vineyard Church was worse than anything I saw in the videos. Now I've seen videos I've shown some people. I couldn't show you all of them. We have videos of pastors. One guy standing against the wall imitating a woman in labor and along comes the midwife or the obstetrician, another minister and puts his hands between his legs to catch the baby coming out because God has given birth to a church. We have videos of 50 women ripping their clothes off and rolling on the floor having sexual orgasms in church on front of cameras. We have videos of a woman on the floor going like this, cooking like a chicken, saying she's laying an egg for Jesus because God has given birth to a church and has hatched something new. We have videos of pastors imitating chimpanzees barking like dogs. The only biblical basis for any of this, of course, is when the mind of a beast was given to Nebuchadnezzar. Now when I went to that meeting, what I saw in that place was even worse. What I saw was open blasphemy. It was all a little strange to begin with. Now, mind you, I am not a cessationist. While I believe that Satan counterfeits the gifts of the Spirit, while I believe a lot of things that people are calling gifts of the Spirit are not authentic but they're purely psychological, I do not deny the biblical basis for real signs and wonders and miracles and healings. By both theology and experience, I myself believe in the gifts of the Spirit when fact is biblical. But this stuff here, they open to John 14 and then that's when the hysterics break out. After 10 minutes of hysterics, he couldn't possibly continue even preaching the sermon. He goes just like this. I am the way! The truth! The truth! The light! And they're all rolling on the floor like this. Jesus says His words are the words of eternal life. They were mocking the words of Jesus. It was open blasphemy. The only spirit there was was the spirit of mockery. And after 10 minutes, he couldn't preach anymore. So they go up on the back and they have ministry. And they put their hands on people like, Whee! If any unsaved person saw that, it's just what 1 Corinthians 14 warns about. Will they not say you are mad? Not only will they say you are mad, but they'll be right. And then when you tell them this, they say you're blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I'm blaspheming the Holy Spirit? They're mocking the words of Jesus. They're ridiculing the thought of the Spirit. And they tell me I'm the one who... Oh, come on. What Bible are they reading? They're not reading any. Then they tell you you're a Pharisee. They don't know what a Pharisee is. We know what the Pharisees were and what they did. They taught as precepts of God the inventions of men. John Wimber of the vineyard who's ecumenical and a lot of other bad things said, I know of no biblical basis for what's happening in Toronto, but we should just accept it anyway. He admits it. There's no biblical basis. I had a letter from an Eland Pentecostal minister in England saying, I went to Toronto and I admit I couldn't find any scripture to justify or even describe what I saw. But that doesn't mean it's wrong. Microwave ovens and toasters aren't in the Bible and they're not wrong, so why should this be wrong? That was his argument. I wrote him back, 1 Corinthians 4.6 Do not exceed the things which are written. Once you begin exceeding what's written in the Word of God, you're doing what Leviticus calls burning strange fire. Remember that judgment came in Leviticus 10 not because they did something contrary to scripture, but they began worshipping in a way that was not physical. They exceeded what was written, 1 Corinthians 4.6 That's what the Pharisees did. Part as precepts of God, the inventions of men. They're the Pharisees, but then they tell you you're the Pharisees because you don't come along with their inventions. Absolute sick deception. Total depravity. It's deception beyond deception. There's two things I can assure you of. I have no doubt whatsoever that this thing you see happening in the Middle East this peace process is a prelude to the false peace predicted in scripture. And I have no doubt whatsoever that when you see this ecumenism in Toronto it is a prelude to the apostasy of the great falling away in 2 Thessalonians. No doubt whatsoever. Therefore the Lord himself will send a deception upon them so they may believe what is a lie. Who? Those who did not love the knowledge of the truth. Yes, Toronto was from the devil, but it's also God's judgment on a backslidden church. Let's continue. The oil anointing. So the oil on Pentecost that had to be spread out on the grain offering was poured out on Jesus. What Peter is drawing on here is the Jewish concept of anointing. Turn with me please to Psalm 133. We say in Hebrew Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious oil upon the head coming down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard coming down upon the edge of his robe. You see that? The oil is poured on the head. It goes down over the beard and over his garment. Hebrews tells us that Aaron the high priest is a type or a symbol of who? Jesus. The oil is poured on him. He's the anointed one. He's the head of the body. Notice it's off the beard onto the garment. The oil never touches the flesh. It never touches the flesh. Even if these guys are used by God to see somebody saved or somebody healed or whatever. You see because God is gracious, rather than see somebody go to hell. And because he's compassionate, he'll use even these people in given situations at least. But the oil never touches the flesh. It's nothing to do with us anyway. You understand? But then the oil is the Holy Spirit. You see these people running around saying get it, get it. The Holy Spirit is not an it. The Holy Spirit is a he. You cannot blaspheme an it. You cannot greed an it. They're saying get it. I don't want it. I want him. Who wants an it? So let's look. And comes off the head onto the member of the body. It's not what it says. That's the Jewish concept of anointing. Mishpat. How lovely on the mountain are the feet of him who brings good news. Ephesians 6 Therefore shod your feet with the shoes of the gospel of peace. Who are the feet? Evangelists. The eye is the lamp of the body. If the eye is sound, the body will be sound also. But thy word, O Lord, is a lamp unto my feet. The lamp gives light. The eye sees. Who are the eyes? Teachers. If the eye is sound, the body will be sound also. If your teacher is wrong and he's teaching error, the church is going to be sick. Do you understand? He can be a very good foot, but it's no good over in the corner. For the foot to be any good, it must be attached to the body and under the head. An eye is no good unless it is in the body. It's no good in the bottle of formalin over on the table. Our anointing in John's epistle is what comes from Jesus. He's the anointed one. Touch not my anointing. Yes, don't touch Jesus. We have no anointing. It doesn't even touch the flesh. It goes on to the body, not the individual. A gift may be in a man or in a woman, but it's never to a man or a woman. No gift of the Spirit is ever to a man or a woman. It is to the body, through a man or a woman. They don't understand what they're talking about. I have this gift. I have that gift. The gift of the Spirit is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. The gift of the Holy Spirit is the Spirit himself, the earnest, the pledge. Our salvation is the gift. But the gift of the Spirit is a different word in Greek. Charism. It means grace. Forget about I have the gift of healing. No. If you really do have a gift for healing, you have the grace. I have the gift of healing. No. You have the grace. And not only that, you don't have it. The body has it. It's just flowing through you. The whole idea is wrong. They don't know what they've been talking about. They don't even have a clue what they're talking about. That's why they ridicule doctrine. That's why you see these heretics in America, like Paul Crouch, saying don't talk to me about doctrine. I don't want to know about doctrine. It brings division. Doctrine is supposed to bring division. We don't want doctrine. We want love. What they're telling you is, like David Duplessis, love and doctrine is supposed to be mutually exclusive. Well, that's what David Duplessis basically said. Let's look at what Philippians chapter 1 says. God says, and this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment. If there's no knowledge of God's word, no doctrinal knowledge and no discernment, that can only come from doctrinal knowledge. There's no real love. It's some frivolous, soulless floss. You're divisive. Oh. Armed divisive. Let's look at 1 Corinthians chapter 11 verse 19. So there must be factions among you in order that those who are approved may become evident among you. The Greek idea is there must be factions among you to prove which is true. But the word for factions in Greek is heresies. We get the word heresy. False doctrine is supposed to bring division. When you see these liars from hell, like Rick Godwin and Ray McCauley, that's supposed to bring division. But those men don't repent, they're in trouble. May God keep me from that. Let few of you be teachers. Teachers will be judged more strictly than the rest. I'm going to give more account to Jesus than other people. If I have the gift of teaching, I'm going to be held more accountable than others. Don't they fear God? Inventing their own doctrines? Heresy is supposed to bring division. Same in Romans. Look at it. I had a clown in the north of England named Ray Belfield use this against me in a letter to people. Verse 17 of Romans 16. Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissension. Mark a factious man in hindrances. But what does the rest of the verse say? Contrary to the teaching which you've learned. He went into Toronto. He was the one who did things contrary to the teaching of the apostles. He was the one who caused the division. He's telling people to mark me because I didn't depart from the teaching of Scripture. False doctrine is supposed to bring division. Don't stand up and name names. It's ungracious. Yeah, it's not of God. That's Malcolm Heading's complaint about me. Don't name the names. You know, it's the last resort of last resorts, but when you're dealing with people who must stop seducing the church, what did the apostles do? What did John say? Oh, gracious, beloved John. Little children love one another. Third John, verse 9. Look out for deioticies. He's causing error. He's teaching error. Look out for deioticies, said John. What does Paul say? Look out for Alexander the coppersmith. Look out for him. Look out for Hymenian. Get away from that guy. He's teaching error, and he won't stop doing it. The Gospels name scientists. They name the religious leaders. Go tell that fox. Ezekiel 11. Look out for Azariah. He's among them. Jehoshiah. Look out for those guys. Jeremiah 28. You're a false prophet. You're misleading God's people. Where do they get this thing? That if people will not stop standing up and teaching error, you don't name and confront them. They don't get it from the word of God. It's man's doctrine. That's what Laodicea means in Greek. People's opinions. Laodicea is the church of people's opinions. The lukewarmness and the materialistic Christianity. All of that stuff derives from the Greek meaning of their name. People's opinions. Not God's opinions. If Ezekiel and Jeremiah didn't stand up and name the names, Jesus never would have been born because Israel would have been destroyed spiritually. If the apostles didn't stand up and name the names, we'd have no church today because Satan would have torpedoed the church in the first century. If the pre-Nicene fathers of the patristics like Irenaeus didn't stand up and name the names, we'd have no church today. Satan would have destroyed it in the second and third centuries. And for all of the mistakes of the Reformers, and they made a lot of mistakes which I don't justify, but if Luther and the Reformers didn't stand up and Erasmus didn't stand up for Pope Julius and these guys, we'd all be going to mass. That's the only church that would exist. Where do they get this garbage? They don't get it from the word of God. What they really mean is, I like my comfort and my security. And church politics and my personal ambitions are more important to me than the welfare of my sheep or the truth of God's word. Therefore, don't make ways. No, I don't agree with it, but I won't challenge it. Because I don't love my sheep enough to protect them from wolves. Therefore, I'm going to let the wolves ravage my sheep because it's uncomfortable to me. Remember, Jeremiah 23, before Jeremiah lamb-dashed the false prophets, he first lamb-dashed the false shepherds for not protecting the sheep from them. The real problem in this country is not the false prophets coming over here from America and the false teachers like Rick Godwin. The real problem in this country is your pastors who won't stand up and protect you people from them. That's the real problem. Jeremiah 23. Tell them I said so. I'll debate Ray McCauley or Rick Godwin on television. Get them. I'll get it. You're watching? Come on. Here I am. Come on, Rick. Come on, cowboy. Let's see how good you are with a fixed gun. Here's my gun. I'll shoot you down. I'm not proud. I'm not arrogant. When I look at this book, I tremble. Who do they think they're playing with? Not my anointed. That's Jesus. Yes, the kings of Old Testament Israel were types of Jesus of the king of Israel. Saul was his anointed. Yes, David wouldn't touch him, but David still told the truth about him. And so did Samuel. And so did God. He put it in his word. They named him. They said who he was and what he was doing. When you see people in the name of grace or love who will not stand up to corrupt leaders who are hurting the sheep. They are people who have no grace and no love. They are people of selfish ambition and fear. When people fear man, it means they don't fear God. They love themselves and their careers and their ministries and their tensions more than they do the truth of God's word because they really love their life in this world more than they love the Lord himself. That's not what I say. That's what God says. And you're going to compromise the welfare of your sheep and the truth of God's word and the credibility of the gospel in the eyes of the unsaved who see this craziness on television with Toronto on this and you won't speak out because the theocratic politics and your career and your ambitions and those aren't shepherds that's Ezekiel 34 shepherds. Those are not shepherds at the God's own heart. No. We have very few leaders in the body of Christ today. Very few leaders. We have politicians. Plenty of politicians. Plenty of theocrats but very few leaders. Let's look further. The oil had to go on the grain. Jesus was anointed for burial. Very brief reference. The song of Solomon chapter 4 verse 6. I will go to the mountain of merit to the hill of frankincense. The bridegroom goes to die for the bride in figure. The hill of merit is Mount Calvary anointed for burial the frankincense to give the offering the sacrifice. But then we read something else. The grain offering in Leviticus 2 it had to be on leaven. No leaven. Hametz in Hebrew. My family is Jewish in that and so before we have the Passover, we do the bevichat Hametz. That's how the Passover Seder begins. Your wife has cleaned all the house and removed everything containing leaven yeast out of the house. But you play a game with your kids when they're little and she leaves a little bit of biscuit somewhere and you search the house with a feather and a candle to find it. And the kids find it and they get a prize and they find it and you take the thing outside and you burn it. And you say may this and all the leaven not found in my house be considered null and void. Purging the leaven. Watered leaven. Leaven, first of all in the Middle East you'll see Sephardic Jewish women, Yemenite women, come I'll show you Arab women. They make bread by a sourdough method. Before they bake it they take a lump of dough from the batter of this loaf before it's baked and put it in the batter of the next loaf. And then before they bake that they take one from this and the next one because biologically yeast spores multiply very quickly. So sin goes from generation to generation. Secondly it puffs up. Pride is the kind of sin that undergirds other kinds of sins. When you see somebody with a problem with greed, underneath their greed problem there's a pride problem. When you see somebody with a lust problem, underneath the lust problem, there's a pride problem. Pride is the kind of sin that undergirds other types of sins. Satan's first sin was really pride was holding Isaiah, isn't it? He wanted to be God. I will magnify myself. Instead of letting God exalt us, we want to exalt ourselves. So with sin particularly, with particular reference to pride but then let's look further. 1 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 7 Just as you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened, for the Messiah our Pesach, Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. Now this is leading up to his discourse on the Lord's Supper or his teaching on the Lord's Supper in chapter 11. Before we take the Lord's Supper there should be a purging of leaven a confession of sins. 11. Amos chapter 4 verse 5 Look at Amos 4 verse 4 or 5 Let's begin in verse 4. Enter Bethel and transgress. Bethel in Hebrew means the house of God. In other words, come to church and sin. In Gilgal, multiply your transgression bring your sacrifices every morning you are tired every three days. Offer a thank offering from that which is leavened and proclaim freewill offerings make them known. For so you love to do you sons of Israel, declares the Lord. It is talking about religiosity the hypocrisy of having sin in our lives and reducing our relationship with God to a cultural religious practice. Enter Bethel and transgress, come to church and sin. The house of God Bethel. Bring your tithe every three days. Oh I go to church, I pay my tithe, I give my offering yes from that which is leavened. For so you love to do you sons of Israel for so we love to do we Baptists for so we love to do we Pentecostals, for so we love to do we Presbyterians, etc. But then beware of the leaven of the Pharisees false doctrine is sin secondly it is inevitably related to pride look at the people who teach false doctrine they are proud, arrogant men, they are not proud of Jesus, they are proud of themselves a little leaven leavens the whole lump it doesn't take much false doctrine I'm not talking about fighting over every single issue, I'm talking about real leaven. Jesus when he died on the cross had no leaven there was no pride no false doctrine and no sin therefore the grain offering in Leviticus 2 had no leaven on it, it's the type of Jesus he had no false doctrine he spoke confidently and boldly, but there was no pride and he had no sin let's look further verse 11 of chapter 2 in Leviticus, you shall bring to the Lord shall be made from leaven but also no honey, in Hebrew we call honey zvash, it comes from the Hebrew word for bee, zvora, the name Deborah means bee in Hebrew, zvora, zvash what the bees make not vash, honey is sweet honey speaks of things about which we have a natural affection let's be careful look at Leviticus 20, 24 God told the Jews he would bring them into a land flowing with milk and honey honey is good, once sin was its home for remember see this 1 Corinthians 10 the Jews coming out of Egypt is a type of our salvation, you understand the way that Moses went to a mountain and made a covenant with blood and sprinkled it on the people is the way the Lord Jesus made a covenant with blood and sprinkled it on us the way Moses brought the children of Israel out of Egypt through the water into the promised land is the way Jesus leads us out of the world through baptism into heaven Pharaoh was the figure of the devil, the god of the world he's also a type of the antichrist a man deified so when we come out of, Egypt's the figure of the world so when we come out of the world, we're coming out of Egypt and we go through the promised land into heaven one type or the other Moses represented the law and the law can't save us that's why Moses couldn't enter the promised land, you understand it was Joshua, Jesus' name Yeshua comes from Yehoshua Jesus means Joshua it's only the way they said Joshua after the Babylonian captivity only Jesus could lead us into the land but the second generation had to enter the land that flowed with milk and honey, not the first, why? because only the new creation can go to heaven, not the old one God uses our sojourning in this world to kill off our old creation, so the new creation can come forth and enter the milk and honey there's nothing wrong with honey honey's the ultimate target the land that flows with milk and honey, we all want to go to heaven, heaven is going to be sweet but in the meantime, we're sojourning to wilderness, understand honey's not bad in itself the problem is with us look at Proverbs 24, 13 turn to Proverbs, we have to look at a few verses in Proverbs if you don't have a bible, please share one with the person next to you, I really don't like to see people not reading the word of God if Christians read the word of God, the church wouldn't be in the trouble it is today my son, eat honey, for it is good yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste there's nothing wrong with honey but there could be no honey on the grain offering when the father allowed his son to be crucified for our sins, there was no affection or sentiment or emotional attachment involved you understand we all like honey before I immigrated to Israel in the 70's, there was a very attractive girl who'd been a dancer and she got saved, Jewish girl extremely attractive, that's one good thing about getting saved in America there's two eligible Christian women for every eligible man, for even an ugly guy like me can have the pick of the litter line them up take your pick and I liked her and everything but well I had a certain view about marriage I you know the only reason I could see to get married was sex wouldn't be a sin, but that's not a good enough reason to go skydiving without a parachute so I wasn't going to do it too easily after a while I got married in Israel, but she, this other girl really wanted to marry me I liked her and everything, but I remember the day she said hello honey soon as I heard that I immigrated to Israel honey we all like honey honey is sweet pick up any little baby he's so sweet nothing wrong with honey, but there's something wrong with us we can be ruled by affection by emotional attachment when the Lord Jesus went to the cross emotion, affection had nothing to do with it God's affection was turned from his righteous son towards unrighteous us he's a no no sin, he can't sin now let's look Proverbs 25 27 it's not good to eat much honey there's nothing wrong with emotion nothing wrong with affection but not too mushy even women who like romantic men, don't like mushy love letters, not too much honey Proverbs 25 16 have you found honey? eat only what you need lest you have it in excess and vomit it too much affection too much sentiment, too much emotion will make you sick to your stomach and you'll vomit it you'll wind up rejecting all of it and you'll wind up with no affection eat what you need don't become governed by affection by sentiment, by emotional attachment Proverbs 18 12 and all, there's a lot of places to talk about honey, now let's look at Proverbs 5 3 just like the good women in the bible like Esther and Ruth and Rebecca typified the bride of Christ the wicked women in the bible typify the harlot in Revelation like Queen Athalia and the woman Jezebel and Delilah, all types of this wicked woman in Revelation but let's look at her here in Proverbs chapter 5 my son, give attention to my wisdom in verse 1, incline your ears to understanding that you may observe discretion and your lips may reserve knowledge for the lips of an adulteress her lips drip honey and smoother than oil is her speech in the end she's bitter as wormwood sharp as a two-edged sword her feet go down since she owes now yes it means a literal prostitute or whatever but it's a symbol it's midrashically, in the Jewish way of interpreting scripture, it alludes to the wicked harlot in Revelation, the same character the nature of a harlot describes the character and modus operandi of the wicked spirit of false religion spiritual seduction her lips drip honey notice how churches that teach false doctrine that brings people to death the lips drip honey it's all based on musty affection and all this stuff her speech smoother than oil oh, they're into the anointing you see what it says and sharp as a two-edged sword false doctrine is as sharp as a two-edged sword that's why we're told in Hebrew that the word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword those guys are sharp they're sharp operators it says in Peter they know how to pervert and twist the word of God they are sharp, you need something sharper but it's all the woman Jezebel the spirit of false religion seductress, the harlot znut in Hebrew, zonah honey, her lips drip honey John the Baptist ate honey but he also ate locusts there's a balance honey, good it's like a little boy whose parents take him to a restaurant and he just turns to the dessert list on the back page of the menu he doesn't want to know about vegetables or meat or grains or milk, he just wants to look at the ice cream give me the sweet, I want the sweet I want the sweet but his mommy knows he needs the meat well that's the way we are first eat what's nutritious then you can have the sweet you can't have real emotional affection you can't enjoy real affection except on the basis of health and truth if you're only eating sweets, you're going to get sick and vomited and they get sick and vomited look how many people get damaged spiritually and psychologically in these hyper-faith churches and they wind up unteachable and they lose their faith and they lose everything some of them become mentally ill let's look further psalm 81, 16 and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you, have the grain the word of God but we're told here in Leviticus chapter 2, verse 14 if you bring a grain offering of early ripened things bring fresh heads of grain roasted in fire, grits of new growth for the grain offering of your early ripened things pay attention there's grain and there's grain there's grain and there's crushed grain you need both the heads of the grain are the word of God in an unthought form crushed grain is the word of God being taught to you by somebody who has to get to teaching ministering of the spirit no bible teacher, no matter how gifted he may be should ever give you crushed grain to the negation of your appetite for whole grain your own reading of scripture comes first like the Berean, test all things if you people believe everything I say just cause I say it and walk out of here you're making a big mistake do both of us a favor be a Berean like in Acts 17 now I'm absolutely positive I'm not teaching any error but don't you take it for granted you test it whole grain and crushed grain Jesus was the pure word of God the Logos, the word became flesh he was the whole grain he was Jesus, the word became flesh I am the way, the truth and the life I am the truth, Jesus didn't say I know the truth, he is the truth his word is truth fathers sanctify them in truth thy word is truth when people are not reading the word of God and applying it to their lives they're not going to have holiness in their lives sanctification is strongly related to the word thy word is truth, sanctify it set them apart in it but now let's get more interesting let's look at Luke 14, 26 take his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters he cannot and even his own wife, he cannot be my disciple now people have tried to get around this even evangelical commentators and expositors have tried to just say it means relative to God well they're not totally wrong when we read it in Matthew 10.37 synoptically we see that they're not totally wrong Matthew 10.37 says, he who loves father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me that's partly true, it's using dissonance it's a Hebrewism Hebrew languages, Semitic languages use dissonance you say extreme things to illustrate a point that's a fair point point of view of literary criticism, however the Greek word is myzo, it's hate hate no honey no affection, hate if you don't hate your parents if you don't hate your children, you can't be my disciple, that's what it says and it means hate but the key is the last phrase even his own life in this world I have a mother who is unsaved I love my mother but because I love my mother, I hate her life in this world I hate the false religious belief she is trusting in for me to come to Jesus, I have to hate my life in this world that's what it means no honey, hate real hate, myzo that's what he means in this world even his own life to come to the real world the new world the better world, you have to hate this one to want to see your family and your unsaved friends and your unsaved loved ones come to the better world, the real one the new one the eternal one, you have to first hate what their life is in this world you have to hate what people are in order to love what they can be when they get born again let's move on quickly, time is going Leviticus chapter 2, verse 11 and 13 Fault Fault preserved this world is fallen when Jesus died the fault of the covenant was yet to preserve we are supposed to throw back evil and preserve as much of God's basis of morality and spirituality as we can in the fallen world even though it's fallen and doomed we're to be as much fault and light as we can when Jesus died he died to bring the fault of the covenant to present a total spiritual moral destruction of the creation why? to give men a chance to repent we're supposed to live out in our marriage we're supposed to live out your marriage the way Adam and Eve should have had they not fallen to the extent possible why? to preserve the family and the marriage as a testimony to the unsaved to bring children up in that environment so they can be a testimony to the unsaved he's wanting none to perish but all should reach repentance when he died on the cross he did it to bring the fault it was whole grain the pure words of God there was no honey too much honey, remember what did the sons of Saul do? what did they eat before they died on uncle Boah David's a type of Jesus isn't he? he's called Ben David Yeshua Jesus son of David when Saul's son chose their father Saul over David, it's like a type or a symbol of people choosing their family over Jesus you understand, my fault he loves his parents more than he's not worthy of it but what did the sons of Saul do when they did that? even though they know David was right they ate honey they let their affections govern my wife's parents were holocaust survivors my wife's grandfather was machine gun for the Nazis my wife's mother father ran for their lives Natalie survived when my wife was born again in Israel what did she get? honey don't you know what the Christians did to your grandfather? don't you know how I had a run when I was a little girl and I had a run for my life and seen my parents murdered, what the Christians did to us now you're one of them you're telling me that my father who loved God and who loved his people, who read the Torah and he was saying Shema Israel Hero Israel, the Lord our God is one when the Nazis killed him you're telling me he went to hell because he didn't believe in the Jesus Christ whose name these Christians murdered him and now you've become one of them that's what my wife is told he who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me the sons of Saul died on Mount Gilboa pray for Jewish people, you don't know how hard it is for them, you don't know how hard it is honey, honey is sweet there was no honey on the club there was nothing but the grain the incense an offering for our sin she was the oil anointed for burial she was roasted on the grill she was burned in the skillet she was consumed in the oven Leviticus chapter 2, God bless you and thank you
