1 Sermon Illustrations on Labor

1 illustration

Labor in Christian preaching emphasizes diligent, purposeful work done in alignment with God's timing and will. It often uses images of sowing, harvesting, or striking at the opportune moment to illustrate how faithful effort combined with divine timing brings fruitful results (Ecclesiastes 3:1; Proverbs 16:3).

Labor, Opportune

Striking at the right time yields far greater results than mere effort without timing.

Ah! when the apples are ripe, a child's foot against the tree will bring scores and scores of them to the ground. He might take his little stick, and throw it twenty times, and not hit more than a single apple; for he would be working according to his own skill, and would accomplish but little: but, when he strikes the trunk of the tree, dozens of apples have been waiting for just that thing; and they drop at his feet; and he gets twenty times, forty times, as many as he would do by plying his stick merely.
