Psalms 33:1

PRaise is comely] The word noteth a fair and comely grace, for which a thing is to be liked and desired, Psalms 93:5. and Psalms 147:1.

for the upright] Praise sounds not well in the mouth of an hypocrite, Psalms 50:16.

Psalms 33:4

the word of the Lord is right] Psal. 19. 7, 8.

Psalms 33:5

the earth is full of the goodnesse of the Lord] Psalms 119:64. He is bountifull to good men and bad, Matthew 5:45. 1 Timothy 4:10. yea, to the beasts, Psalms 36:6.

goodnesse] Or, mercy.

Psalms 33:6

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made] Gen. 1. 6, 7.

Psalms 33:7

He gathereth the waters of the sea together] He layes up the waters in deep places, that they may not drown the earth, Genesis 1:9. Job 26:10. and 38. 8, 16. Prov. 8. 28, 29.

he layeth up the depth in store-houses] Or, he layeth them up in the store-houses of the deeps.

Psalms 33:8

Let all the earth fear the Lord] By the creation of the heavens, and beautifull ornament, with the gathering of the waters to one place, he setteth forth the power of God, that all creatures might fear him, Jere. 5. 22.

Psalms 33:9

he spake, and it was done] Psal. 148. 5, 6.

Psalms 33:10

The Lord bringeth the counsell of the heathen to nought] Isaiah 19:3. No counsell cn prevail against God, but he defeateth it, and it shall have an evill successe.

bringeth, &c.] Heb. maketh frustrate.

Psalms 33:11

The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever] Proverbs 19:21. Isaiah 46:10. Shall take effect, whatsoever men plot to the contrary, Isai. 14. 24, 27.

to all generations] Heb. to generation and generation.

Psalms 33:12

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord] Psal 65. 4. and 144. 15. He sheweth that all our felicity standeth in this, That God is our God by covenant, Genesis 17:5. Exodus 19:5.

Psalms 33:13

The Lord looketh from heaven] He teacheth us, that all things are governed by Gods providence, and not by fortune, Psalms 14:2. and 94. 7, 9.

Psalms 33:15

He fashioneth their hearts alike] He that made all their hearts, knows all their wicked enterprises, Psalms 94:9.

Psalms 33:16

There is no king saved by the multitude of an host] If kings and the mighty of the world cannot be saved by worldly means, but onely by Gods providence, what have others to trust in, that have not like means?

Psalms 33:17

An horse is a vain thing for safety] Proverbs 21:31.

Psalms 33:18

the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him] Job Psalms 34:15. 1 Pet. 3. 12. God sheweth that toward his of his mercy, which man by no means is able to compasse.

them that fear him] Psal 147. 11.

Psalms 33:19

keep them alive in famine] Job 5:20. psal. 37. 19.

Psalms 33:20

Our soul waiteth for the Lord] Psal. 62. 1, 5 and 130. 6. Thus he speaks in the name of the whole Church, which depends onely upon Gods providence.
