John 15

John 15:1

I Am the true vine] By these manner of speeches he teacheth, that being by the Father spirtually implanted into Christ, we have life by fiath in him, and bring forth fruits of good works by the vertue of his Spirit working in us.

John 15:2

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit] Matthew 15:13. and Matthew 3:10. Romans 11:17,20.

John 15:3

Nowye] Chap. 13. 10.

are clean] Sanctified by my Spirit.

word which I have spoken unto you] Being accompanied with the power of my Spirit. See Chap. 17. 17. Ephesians 5:26. 1 Peter 1:22.

John 15:5

without me] Or, severed from me.

John 15:7

my words abide in you] If ye continue grounded and established in my doctrine, Colos. 1 23.

John 15:8

Herein is my Father glorified] Matthew 5:16. Phil. 1. 11.

John 15:10

If ye keep my commandements] 1 John 2:5.

John 15:12

This is my commandement] Chap. 13. 24. 1 Thes. 4. 9. 1 John 3:11.

John 15:15

all things that I have heard of my Father] Necessary to salvation. See 2 Tim. 3. 15.

ordained you] Matthew 28:19.

John 15:20

The servant is not greater then the lord] Matthew 10:24. Chap. 13. 16.

kept my saying] Beleeved and obeyed them.

John 15:21

because they knew not him that sent me] Because they knew not, or for malice will not acknowledge that which you preach to be the word of God. See Jerem. 43. 2. & 44. 16.

John 15:22

If I had not come, and spoken unto them, they had not had sinne] Either not so much sinne, if they had not despised so cleere light; and a truth so confirmed, as vers. 24. Or they should still have seemed innocent, if I had not discovered their malice and hypocrisie.

John 15:26

But when the Comforter is come] Luke 24:49. Chap. 14. 26.

ye also shall bear witnesse] You who were eye-witnesses, who have heard and seen, which the Spirit also testifieth, Acts 1:8. 21, 22. & 5. 32. 1 Joh. 1. 1, 2, 3.
