But you ask, ‘How have we defiled You ?’ By saying that the table of the LORD is contemptible. When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present the lame and sick ones, is it not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Nehemiah 13:10 Summary
This verse shows that when the people of God didn't give the Levites their fair share, the Levites had to leave their jobs and go back to working in their fields. This teaches us that it's essential to take care of those who serve God, like pastors and missionaries, so they can focus on their work (1 Corinthians 9:14). When we support them, we're also supporting God's work and showing that we care about His people. By doing so, we're following God's command to love and care for one another, as seen in John 13:35 and Galatians 6:2.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happened to the Levites and singers in Nehemiah 13:10?
The Levites and singers had to leave their duties and return to their fields because they were not receiving their portions, as seen in Nehemiah 13:10, highlighting the importance of supporting those who serve in the ministry, as also taught in Galatians 6:6 and 1 Timothy 5:18.
Why is it significant that the Levites had to go back to their fields?
The fact that the Levites had to return to their fields shows that they were not being supported financially, which is a reminder that ministers and servants of the Lord should be compensated for their work, as stated in 1 Corinthians 9:14 and Luke 10:7.
What does this verse reveal about the spiritual state of the people?
The fact that the people neglected to give the portions to the Levites indicates a lack of priority on their spiritual well-being and a focus on their own interests, as warned against in Haggai 1:4 and Matthew 6:33.
How does this relate to the overall theme of Nehemiah?
This verse fits into the larger narrative of Nehemiah, which emphasizes the importance of rebuilding and restoring the spiritual foundations of the community, as seen in Nehemiah 8:1-12 and Ezra 7:10.

- How can I prioritize my own spiritual well-being and the well-being of those around me, as commanded in Matthew 22:37-40?
- What are some potential consequences of neglecting the spiritual needs of others, as seen in this verse and in other scriptures like 1 Samuel 12:23?
- In what ways can I reflect the heart of God by providing for those who serve Him, as seen in Deuteronomy 12:19 and Acts 6:1-7?
