Context — The Parable Explained
19Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘As surely as I live, I will bring down upon his head My oath that he despised and My covenant that he broke.
20I will spread My net over him and catch him in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment upon him there for the treason he committed against Me. 21All his choice troops will fall by the sword, and those who survive will be scattered to every wind. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken.’Cross References

And you, O profane and wicked prince of Israel, the day has come for your final punishment.’ This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Remove the turban, and take off the crown. Has this house, which bears My Name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD. But go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for My Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel. And now, because you have done all these things, declares the LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again but you would not listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer, therefore what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears My Name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers. And I will cast you out of My presence, just as I have cast out all your brothers, all the descendants of Ephraim. |
Ezekiel 17:19 Summary
This verse means that God is very serious about keeping promises and agreements, and when someone breaks a promise or covenant, God will hold them accountable. The king in this story broke his promise to God, and now God is going to bring judgment upon him, as seen in Ezekiel 17:20 where God says He will spread His net over him and catch him in His snare. This reminds us that our words and actions have consequences, and we should always strive to be people of our word, just like God is faithful to His promises (Psalm 36:5). By keeping our commitments and following God's commands, we can demonstrate our love and commitment to Him, and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
