56“Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises He made through His servant Moses.

But just as every good thing the LORD your God promised you has come to pass, likewise the LORD will bring upon you the calamity He has threatened, until He has destroyed you from this good land He has given you. |

| 9 | Hebrews 4:3–9 | Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is just as God has said: “So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’” And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world. For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: “And on the seventh day God rested from all His works.” And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.” Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience, God again designated a certain day as “Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. |
| 10 | Luke 1:54–55 | He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful, as He promised to our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants forever.” |
1 Kings 8:56 Summary
This verse means that God has kept all His promises to His people, and they can now live in peace and safety. Just like God gave rest to the Israelites, He also wants to give us rest and peace when we trust in Him, as Jesus promised in Matthew 11:28-30. We can trust that God will always keep His promises, just like He did for the Israelites, and we can look forward to experiencing His peace and rest in our lives. By remembering God's faithfulness, like Solomon did, we can be encouraged to trust in Him and His promises, and seek to live in obedience to His word, as encouraged in Joshua 1:7-8.
