Jarius
In the Bible, the name Jarius (or Jairus) means "he will awaken" or "he will enlighten," derived from the Hebrew name יָאִיר (Ya'ir). Jarius is most notably mentioned in the Gospels of Mark (5:22-43) and Luke (8:41-56) as a synagogue ruler who sought out Jesus to heal his dying daughter. This narrative illustrates Jarius’s desperation and faith, as he believed that Jesus could restore her to life. The story of Jarius serves as a poignant example of faith in action. Despite the discouragement from others when news reaches him that his daughter has died, Jesus reassures him to "not be afraid; just believe" (Mark 5:36). The eventual healing of Jarius’s daughter, who is raised from the dead, emphasizes the themes of hope and the power of faith in Christ, further illustrating Jesus's authority over life and death, as well as His compassion for those in distress.
