Biblical Illiteracy

1 sermons

Biblical illiteracy poses a significant challenge to the church today, as many believers struggle to grasp the foundational truths of Scripture. In Hosea 4:6, the Lord laments, 'My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge,' highlighting the dire consequences of neglecting God’s Word. The Bible calls us to be diligent in our study, as Paul instructs Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 to 'do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.' Understanding Scripture is essential for spiritual growth and maturity, as emphasized in Colossians 3:16, where we are encouraged to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom. Furthermore, Jesus Himself underscores the importance of knowing Scripture when He responds to the devil's temptations in Matthew 4:4, stating, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.' As believers, we are called to cultivate a deep relationship with the Bible, allowing it to transform our hearts and minds, as Romans 12:2 instructs us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Addressing biblical illiteracy is not merely an academic pursuit; it is a vital aspect of our faith journey that equips us to live out the truth of the Gospel.
