Context — The People Confess Their Sins
27So You delivered them into the hands of enemies who oppressed them, and in their time of distress they cried out to You. From heaven You heard them, and in Your great compassion You gave them deliverers who saved them from the hands of their enemies.
28But as soon as they had rest, they again did evil in Your sight. So You abandoned them to the hands of their enemies, who had dominion over them. When they cried out to You again, You heard from heaven, and You delivered them many times in Your compassion. 29You admonished them to turn back to Your law, but they were arrogant and disobeyed Your commandments. They sinned against Your ordinances, by which a man will live if he practices them. They turned a stubborn shoulder; they stiffened their necks and would not obey.Cross References

You have carried out the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us a great disaster. For under all of heaven, nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our iniquities and giving attention to Your truth. Nehemiah 9:27 Summary
[Nehemiah 9:27 shows us that when God's people disobeyed Him, He allowed their enemies to oppress them, but when they cried out to Him in distress, He heard their cry from heaven and sent deliverers to save them. This verse reminds us that God is a compassionate God who listens to our cries and provides help in times of need, as we also see in Psalm 34:17-18. It also teaches us that our disobedience can lead to trouble, but God's mercy is always available to those who turn to Him. By looking at this verse, we can see that God's love and compassion are always available to us, even when we mess up, and that He wants us to cry out to Him in our times of need.]
