Context — Laws about Skin Diseases
2“When someone has a swelling or rash or bright spot on his skin that may be an infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest.
3The priest is to examine the infection on his skin, and if the hair in the infection has turned white and the sore appears to be deeper than the skin, it is a skin disease. After the priest examines him, he must pronounce him unclean. 4If, however, the spot on his skin is white and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest shall isolate the infected person for seven days.Cross References

Leviticus 13:2 Summary
This verse is talking about how the Israelites were to handle skin diseases, which were a big concern for them. If someone had a skin problem, they had to go see a priest, like Aaron, to figure out if it was a disease or not, as stated in Leviticus 13:2. This reminds us that we should always go to God and His Word for guidance, just like the Israelites went to the priest, as seen in Psalm 119:105 and Proverbs 3:5-6. We can trust that God will help us navigate any problems we face, just like He helped the Israelites, as promised in Jeremiah 29:11 and Romans 8:28.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of skin diseases is this verse referring to?
This verse is talking about infectious skin diseases, which were a serious concern for the Israelites, as we see in Leviticus 13:2, and were to be diagnosed by the priest, as instructed in Exodus 4:6-8 and Numbers 12:10-12.
Why did the person with a skin disease have to be brought to the priest?
The person had to be brought to the priest so that the priest could examine the infection and determine if it was indeed a skin disease, as stated in Leviticus 13:2, and then follow the proper procedures for purification, as outlined in Leviticus 14:1-32.
What was the role of the priest's sons in this process?
The priest's sons, who were also priests, were authorized to examine and diagnose skin diseases, just like their father, as mentioned in Leviticus 13:2, and were to follow the same procedures for purification, as instructed in Leviticus 10:6 and Ezekiel 44:15-31.
How does this verse relate to our lives today?
While we may not have the same concerns about infectious skin diseases, this verse reminds us of the importance of seeking guidance from spiritual leaders, as seen in Acts 13:1-3 and 1 Timothy 4:13, and following God's instructions for living a holy life, as commanded in Leviticus 11:44-45 and 1 Peter 1:15-16.
Reflection Questions
- What are some 'infections' in my own life that I need to bring before God for examination and healing, as in Psalm 139:23-24 and Jeremiah 17:9-10?
- How can I, like the priest, be a source of guidance and wisdom for others, as instructed in Matthew 28:18-20 and 2 Timothy 2:2?
- What are some areas where I need to trust God's sovereignty and timing, just as the Israelites had to wait for the priest's diagnosis, as seen in Psalm 27:14 and Isaiah 40:31?
- How can I balance the need for guidance from spiritual leaders with the importance of personal responsibility and obedience to God's Word, as taught in Romans 14:12 and 2 Corinthians 5:10?
- What are some ways I can 'isolate' myself from sinful influences and seek purification, as instructed in 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1 and 1 Peter 1:15-16?
