This conflict is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, as believers strive to live according to the Spirit, rather than the flesh, as encouraged in Romans 8:13, which states that "if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live." Through faith and obedience, Christians can overcome the flesh and live a life that is pleasing to God, as promised in Psalms 119:9, which declares that "how can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word."
