Today you will not find anything in the field. For six days you may gather, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it will not be there.” Yet on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they did not find anything. Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep My commandments and instructions? For six days work may be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must surely be put to death. The Israelites must keep the Sabbath, celebrating it as a permanent covenant for the generations to come. Jeremiah 17:22 Summary
Jeremiah 17:22 reminds us that God wants us to keep the Sabbath day holy, which means setting aside a day to rest and focus on Him. This doesn't mean we have to follow all the specific rules from the Old Testament, but it does mean we should prioritize our relationship with God and take time to worship and recharge (as seen in Exodus 20:8-11 and Matthew 12:1-14). By keeping the Sabbath day holy, we can experience the physical and spiritual rest that God provides, and deepen our connection with Him. This can be a special time to read the Bible, pray, and spend time with loved ones, and to remember God's love and care for us.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of keeping the Sabbath day holy?
The purpose of keeping the Sabbath day holy is to rest and remember God's creation and redemption, as seen in Exodus 20:11 and Deuteronomy 5:15, and to honor God's command to our forefathers, as mentioned in Jeremiah 17:22.

While the specific rules about carrying loads and doing work on the Sabbath may not apply directly to us today, the principle of setting aside a day to rest and worship God is still important, as seen in Hebrews 4:9-11 and Matthew 12:1-14.
How can I keep the Sabbath day holy in my daily life?
You can keep the Sabbath day holy by setting aside time to rest, worship, and focus on God, and by avoiding unnecessary work and activities that distract from your relationship with Him, as encouraged in Isaiah 58:13-14 and Luke 13:10-17.
