Context — Woe to Those Who Rely on Egypt
2Yet He too is wise and brings disaster; He does not call back His words. He will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of evildoers.
3But the Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together. 4For this is what the LORD has said to me: “Like a lion roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of shepherds is called out against it, it is not terrified by their shouting or subdued by their clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and its heights.Cross References

For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. Isaiah 31:2 Summary
[This verse is saying that even though God is full of wisdom and love, He will still bring disaster to those who refuse to follow Him. This is because God is a just God who wants what is best for us, and sometimes that means allowing us to face the consequences of our actions, as seen in Romans 11:22. We can trust that God's ways are higher than our own, and that He will always do what is right, even if it's hard to understand at the time. By trusting in God and following His ways, we can avoid the disasters that come from going our own way.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean that God 'does not call back His words' in Isaiah 31:2?
This means that when God speaks, His words are final and will not be taken back, as seen in Psalm 89:34 where God says, 'I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went out of my lips.'
Why does God 'bring disaster' in Isaiah 31:2?
God brings disaster as a form of judgment against those who refuse to follow Him, as stated in Isaiah 30:1-3, where those who go to Egypt for help instead of God will face disaster.
What is the difference between the 'house of the wicked' and the 'allies of evildoers' in Isaiah 31:2?
The 'house of the wicked' likely refers to the wicked themselves, while the 'allies of evildoers' refers to those who support or enable the wicked, and both will face God's judgment, as seen in Proverbs 29:7 where it says that the righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked do not.
Is God being cruel by rising up against the wicked and their allies in Isaiah 31:2?
No, God is being just, as He is a God of justice and righteousness, and those who refuse to follow Him will face the consequences of their actions, as stated in Deuteronomy 32:4 where it says that God's ways are just and fair.
