19Now therefore, write down for yourselves this song and teach it to the Israelites; have them recite it, so that it may be a witness for Me against them.
20When I have brought them into the land that I swore to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey, they will eat their fill and prosper. Then they will turn to other gods and worship them, and they will reject Me and break My covenant. 21And when many troubles and afflictions have come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants. For I know their inclination, even before I bring them into the land that I swore to give them.”Cross References

Deuteronomy 31:19 Summary
In Deuteronomy 31:19, God instructs Moses to write down a song that will serve as a reminder to the Israelites of their covenant with Him. This song is meant to be a witness against them, warning them of the consequences of turning to other gods. Just like the Israelites, we can easily forget God's love and promises, and turn to other things for comfort and security (as seen in Psalm 106:13-14). By remembering God's covenant with us, and worshiping Him through song and prayer, we can stay close to Him and avoid the dangers of idolatry (as encouraged in Psalm 100:1-5 and Matthew 22:37-38).
