1 Peter 2:8

The Living Stone and Chosen People

7To you who believe, then, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word—and to this they were appointed.

King James (Authorized) Version

Plain English Version
God says this about Jesus too, in his book, “He will be like a stone that people trip over, so that they fall down and hurt themselves.” You see, people that don’t trust in Jesus, they go wrong and stop following God. It’s like they fall down and hurt themselves. They go wrong because they don’t listen to God’s word, and they don’t do what it says. You know, God planned all that trouble for them a long time ago.
Translation for Translators
And it is also written {Isaiah wrote} in the Scriptures: He will be like a stone that causes people to stumble, like a rock that people trip over. Just as people are injured when they stumble over a rock, people who disobey the message about Jesus are injured spiritually, and that is what God determined would happen to them.
Unlocked Literal Bible

Noah Webster Bible

World English Bible
and, “a stumbling stone and a rock of offense.” For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed.
Young's Literal Translation
and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence — who are stumbling at the word, being unbelieving, — to which also they were set;
