Proverbs 11
BSA1 Dishonest [false, deceitful] scales [balances of deceit] are an abomination [a thing of disgust] to the LORD [Yehovah], but an accurate [just, perfect] weight [stone] is His delight [acceptance, pleasure, having pleasure in]. word study 2 When [arrogance comes, pride commeth] pride comes [then comes, follows], disgrace [shame, dishonor] follows, but with [the lowly] humility [being humble, modest] comes [is] wisdom [skill, prudence, good judgment]. word study 3 The integrity [moral purity, innocence] of the upright [just, righteous] guides [leads, directs] them, but the perversity [crookedness, distortion] of the faithless [treacherous, deceitful] destroys [ruins, devastates] them. word study 4 Riches [wealth, substance, material possessions] are worthless [of no profit, unhelpful] in the day [a period of time, a season] of wrath [fury, anger, God’s judgment], but righteousness [virtue, justice, moral integrity] brings [results in, leads to] deliverance [rescue, salvation] from death [physical or spiritual, eternal separation]. word study 5 The righteousness [justice, virtue, and morality] of the blameless [unblemished, perfect] directs [makes straight, guides] their path [way of life, journey], but the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] fall [are defeated, come to ruin] by their own wickedness [guilt, wrong actions]. word study 6 The righteousness [justice, virtue, and morality] of the upright [those who are straight or just, doing what is right] delivers [rescues, snatches away from danger] them, but the faithless [transgressors, acting treacherously] are trapped [captured, seized] by their own desires [strong desires, ruin, or calamity]. word study 7 When the [morally wrong, guilty of sin] wicked man [the ungodly, unjust] dies [experiences physical death, ceases to exist], his [expectation, confidence] hope [trust, faith] perishes [is destroyed, lost], and the hope [expectation, trust] of his [physical, mental] strength [power, ability] vanishes [disappears, comes to nothing]. word study 8 The righteous [just, upright, having God’s nature] man is delivered [rescued, drawn out, equipped for war] from trouble [distress, dearth, vexation]; in his place [stead, position, underneath] the wicked [morally wrong, bad, guilty] man goes [comes, enters, approaches] in. word study 9 With his mouth [lip, edge of speech] the ungodly [profane, hypocritical] man destroys [to ruin, corrupt] his neighbor [friend, companion], but through knowledge [understanding, wisdom] the righteous [just, upright] are rescued [delivered, armed for salvation]. word study 10 When the righteous [just, morally upright] thrive [prosper, experience goodness], the city [town, community] rejoices [exults, jumps for joy], and when the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] perish [are destroyed, lost], there are shouts [cries, ringing cries] of joy [gladness, triumph]. word study 11 By the blessing [gift from God, bringing prosperity] of the upright [just, righteous, straight] a city [town, community] is built up [exalted, lifted up], but by the mouth [lip, edge] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] it is torn down [overthrown, destroyed]. word study 12 Whoever shows [despiseth, holds in contempt] contempt [to despise, lack of respect] for his neighbor [friend, companion, someone close] lacks [is void of, destitute of] judgment [wisdom, discernment], but a man [individual, person] of understanding [intelligence, insight] remains [holds, keeps] silent [quiet, still]. word study 13 A gossip [slanderer, talebearer] reveals [uncovers, makes known] a secret [confidence, intimate matter], but a trustworthy [faithful, reliable] person [with a faithful spirit, of a faithful heart] keeps [conceals, covers] a confidence [secret, matter]. word study 14 For lack [absence, want] of guidance [wise counsel, direction], a nation [people, community] falls [is defeated, comes to ruin], but with many [a multitude of, numerous] counselors [advisers, guides] comes [is found] deliverance [salvation, victory, rescue]. word study 15 He who puts up security [pledges or guarantees, becomes surety] for a stranger [foreigner, unknown person] will surely suffer [be afflicted with evil, smart for it], but the one who hates [intensely dislikes, has hostility towards] indebtedness [suretyship, being responsible for another’s debt] is secure [safe, confident, trusting]. word study 16 A gracious [full of favor] woman [a female person] attains [obtains, retaineth] honor [glory, great respect], but [strong, terrible] ruthless men [who are] gain [retain, obtain] only [nothing but] wealth [riches, material possessions]. word study 17 A [merciful] kind man [who shows compassion, kindness] benefits [does good to, rewards] himself, but a [harsh, unkind] cruel [ruthless] man brings [troubles, disturbs] trouble [affliction, distress] on [to, against] himself [his own soul, his inner being]. word study 18 The [morally wrong, guilty of sin] wicked man earns an empty [deceitful] wage, but he who [plants, spreads] sows righteousness [justice, virtue, morality] reaps a true [faithful, sure] reward. word study 19 Genuine [true, steadfast] righteousness [morally upright, virtuous] leads [tends, gives rise] to life [eternal, spiritual], but the pursuit [chasing, following] of evil [bad, wicked] brings [results in, leads to] death [physical, spiritual, one’s own]. word study 20 The [twisted, perverse] perverse in heart [the seat of feelings, will, and intellect] are an [object of disgust, abomination] abomination to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], but the blameless [unblemished] in their walk [way of life, manner of action] are His [delight, acceptance, pleasure] delight. word study 21 Be assured [certainly, without a doubt] that the wicked [evil man, morally bad] will not [never, under no circumstances] go unpunished [without penalty, acquitted], but the offspring [seed, descendants] of the righteous [just, upright] will escape [be delivered, slip away to safety]. word study 22 Like a gold [valuable and precious] ring [a nose-ring or earring] in a pig’s [swine, unclean animal] snout [nose, or face] is a beautiful [fair, lovely] woman [a female person] who lacks [is without, or turns aside from] discretion [wise judgment, or taste]. word study 23 The desire [longing, craving] of the righteous [just, upright] leads [results in, brings about] only to good [pleasant, beneficial], but the hope [expectation, waiting] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] brings [results in, leads to] wrath [fury, indignation, anger]. word study 24 One gives [generously, with an open hand] freely, yet gains [increases, is added to] even more; another withholds [restrains, holds back] what is right [uprightness, moral integrity], only to become [tend to, result in] poor [in need, lacking]. word study 25 A generous [liberal, giving freely] soul [living being, essence of a person] will prosper [be made fat, to anoint or satisfy], and he who refreshes [watereth, to quench or satisfy] others will himself [also, even he] be refreshed [watered, to receive in return]. word study 26 The people [a community or nation] will curse [pierce with strong emotion, blaspheme] the hoarder [withholder, one who keeps back] of grain [bar, a field of wheat or corn], but blessing [a gift from God, prosperity] will crown [be upon the head of] the one who sells [trades, provides for others’] it. word study 27 He who [diligently, with all his heart] searches out [seeks, looks for] good [pleasant, beneficial things] finds [procures, obtains] favor [acceptance, delight], but evil [bad, moral harm] will come to him who [earnestly, continually] seeks [searches after, asks for] it [mischief, trouble]. word study 28 He who [confidently, with faith] trusts [has confidence, relies] in his riches [wealth, material possessions] will fall [come to nothing, be defeated], but the righteous [just, upright, having God’s nature] will thrive [flourish, sprout] like foliage [a green leaf, a branch]. word study 29 He who brings [troubleth, causes affliction] trouble on his house [family, dwelling place] will inherit [take possession of, receive as a legacy] the wind [a blast of air], and the fool [foolish, despising wisdom] will be servant [slave, bondservant] to the wise [skilled, prudent] of heart [mind, emotions, inner being]. word study 30 The fruit [of righteous living, producing spiritual growth] of the righteous [just, upright, and virtuous] is a tree [a tree; wood, timber, a plank] of life [eternal, spiritual, and abundant], and he who wins [gains, saves, or takes] souls [the essence of a person, their spiritual being] is wise [intelligent, discerning, and prudent]. word study 31 If the righteous [just, upright, having God’s nature] receive their due [are repaid, recompensed] on earth [the land, the world], how much more [certainly, surely] the ungodly [wicked, morally wrong] and the sinner [one who misses the mark, goes wrong]! word study
