15 Bible Verses on Physical Exercise

15 verses

Scripture teaches that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and as such, we are called to honor God with our physical well-being. The apostle Paul writes in 1 Timothy that physical exercise has some value, but it is far outweighed by the importance of spiritual discipline. In 1 Corinthians, Paul emphasizes the need to discipline our bodies to live a life pleasing to God, and in Philippians, he expresses confidence that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Additionally, 3 John expresses a desire for believers to prosper in all things, including bodily health, as a reflection of their spiritual wellness, and 1 Corinthians 9:27 highlights the importance of self-control in all aspects of life, including physical training.

He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall. But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.

No, I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
