Self-Glory

10 sermons

In the biblical context, self-glory refers to the pursuit of personal recognition and admiration, often at the expense of humility and a genuine relationship with God. According to the Bible, seeking self-glory is contrary to the teachings of Jesus, who emphasized the importance of humility and serving others (Matthew 20:26-28, Philippians 2:3-4). The apostle Paul also warned against seeking self-glory, encouraging believers to boast only in the Lord and to recognize that their accomplishments are ultimately a result of God's work in their lives (1 Corinthians 1:29-31, Jeremiah 9:23-24). By rejecting self-glory and embracing humility, Christians can cultivate a deeper sense of dependence on God and a more authentic faith, as exemplified in Psalms 115:1, which states, "Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory."
