Humility And Glory

1 sermons

Humility and glory are profound themes woven throughout Scripture, illustrating the paradox of God's kingdom. In Luke 2:8-14, the angels proclaim the birth of Jesus to lowly shepherds, emphasizing that God's glory is often revealed in the most humble of circumstances. This divine announcement to the marginalized reflects the heart of God, who chooses to exalt the humble as stated in James 4:10, 'Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.' Jesus embodies this principle, teaching in Matthew 5:3 that 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.' Here, humility is not a sign of weakness but a pathway to experiencing God's glory. Furthermore, Philippians 2:7-9 reveals how Christ, in His humility, took on the form of a servant, ultimately leading to His exaltation: 'Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name.' The interplay of humility and glory culminates in the call for believers to reflect Christ’s example, as seen in 1 Peter 5:6, which encourages us to 'humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.' In embracing humility, we position ourselves to witness and participate in the glory of God.
