Christian Communion

3 sermons

Christian communion, often referred to as the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist, is a sacred act that embodies the profound relationship between believers and Christ. As articulated in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Jesus instituted this practice during the Last Supper, commanding His followers to partake in remembrance of Him. This act serves not only as a memorial but also as a means of grace, fostering a deep communion with Christ and with one another, as emphasized in Acts 2:42, where the early church devoted themselves to the breaking of bread. The Apostle Paul further highlights the significance of examining oneself before partaking, warning against partaking in an unworthy manner, which can lead to spiritual consequences (1 Corinthians 11:27-29). Communion is a celebration of the new covenant established through Christ's sacrifice, as described in Luke 22:20, symbolizing the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. Moreover, it serves as a communal feast that unites believers, reflecting the unity of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16-17). Through this sacred ordinance, Christians are reminded of their identity in Christ and their call to live in fellowship with one another, embodying the love and grace that Jesus exemplified.
