Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

But all we had from God were the promises He gave us about the house. Now, we enter this building with this desire in His word. Lord, I have loved the habitation of Thy house. You find this world also at the entrance, outside the pandal. It's only when we have a real love for God's house, we can understand His purpose in us. I do trust that all of us can say this word from the heart. Lord, I have loved the place, love, the habitation of Thy house. There must be a sincere love for the house of God. If you want to be blessed by God, then be sure you have in the heart a sincere, pure love for God's house. If you want to be blessed by God, then be sure you have in the heart a sincere, pure love for God's house. The place where God's honor, God's glory is fully revealed. This building has not been built for man's glory or man's comfort or man's pleasure. We say for God's glory and have it our desire from the beginning. We want God's honor to dwell here. The whatsoever is said and done and given, be only for His glory. It may be a weekly gathering or a Sunday gathering. An ordinary gathering or a special gathering. A small gathering or a large gathering. May this be a place where the honor of God shall dwell. Now shall we pray. In the name of Lord Jesus Christ once again, we give thee our heartfelt praise and thanks for this happy day. We thank thee for commanding us, for commissioning us. To make our shift on this compound. We thank thee for the means used of thee to secure this building, this compound, for thyself and thy use. We thank thee for the plan given and the strength given for the building of this structure. Now we pray thy honor may dwell here day and night. Count thy word it may be a tabernacle of thy glory. May be house of prayer. May be house of fellowship. May be house of service. May be house of sacrifice. House of revelation. House of divine illumination. The house of salvation. The house of heavenly bread. There be no lack of blood in thy house. Many bones be broken. Many wounds be healed. Many eyes be opened. Many lives be transformed. Thy life like a river may flow. Thy name be highly honored. All be given the same welcome. Thy word may go forth many parts of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Asia, Europe, America, Africa and far in the world. Thy word may go forth many parts of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Asia, Europe, America, Africa and far in the world. Thy name may go forth many parts of India, Sri Lanka, Africa and far in the world. O God, bless us. Verify thy promises given to us. Thou hast said, sir. Thou hast said, from this day, I bless thee. And thou hast said, the glory of the letter house shall be given forward. And thou hast said, its place will I give peace. Make me so. Loving father, we adore thee. Mourning upon our face we worship thee. Loving father, with our weak lives, lend to us a new way. And give us a fresh, revolution by glory and beauty. Now be allowed to go empty from thy house. Lord, we bless thee. We pray in the name of the Lord. Yes, our Saviour. Amen. I'll see from God's word. Number 27. Book of Numbers chapter 7 and verse 89. Last verse. Last verse of the book of Numbers, chapter 7 and verse 89. When Nudiraj grants the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him of the mercy seat that was upon the Ark of Testimony from between the two cherubims, and he spake unto him. Moses. While we have been thanking God for this building given to us to worship him and have pursued him. At the same time, with knowledge, we have not found the building made by man's hand. I remind you so clearly in the book of Acts, chapter 7. In the book of Acts, chapter 7 and verse 48. He made all these things. The people quoting these words from the book of Isaiah, chapter 66. One and two. Book of Isaiah, chapter 66. Verses 1 and 2. Now said the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool, where the house that ye build unto me, and the place of my rest. All those things hath my hand made. Now those things have been, said the Lord. But to man when I look, even to him, that poor, contrived spirit. And this is my word. He is ready for us to be carried away by outward appearance. While we do thank God for all his favor shown to us, enabling us to build this structure, this house, for himself, for his use. I would love to be carried away, just by word and symbol. Another real thing. As I mentioned yesterday, in our prayer meeting, every part of this building has a history behind. We have waited upon the Lord for hours together, before we began the work. But before we actually saw the site of this bundle, we spent many days in prayer. The Lord himself gave us the plan, showing us exactly the location of the bundle site. Then we prayed, O Lord, show us the dimensions of the bundle. Now going by our first plan, which we first thought of, we only had thought of about two such sites. Then someone said to me afterwards, that won't be enough for our use. And I said, at least more than one and a half old bundle. But that is part and parcel of physics. That must have been larger bundle and not smaller one. So after nine days of prayer, we decided the dimensions. About the length and the breadth and the height. Then we began to pray about the material. What kind of wood and what kind of material to be used. We were not concerned with the money. We were concerned with the Lord's plan. And there were many suggestions made. So many people of experience gave us suggestions. Then finally the Lord gave us a plan. And we know how every part of it has a spiritual history. And to us, every part has a spiritual lesson. What will be shown clearly about the next plan, the whole part. So we have seen God's hand working with us on our behalf all these past three months. Happy, joy to pray with our workmen, pray with Bhagavan day and night. So we can say that every part of the structure, it has been soaked with prayer. Before the structure went up, every time we had to call upon the Lord. Every time we stuck a garbagan somewhere, again we called upon Him. And for something we had to pray for many weeks. Then the Lord gave us His plan so clearly. Even though the Lord had been so gracious, so faithful in giving us the plan and the material and the workmen. I went down upon the building. Then not upon the timber and the sheaves, other things you see here. I went up on the Lord. To us the whole structure is a reminder of God's faithfulness. To us the whole structure is a reminder of God's faithfulness. So unless we keep ourselves humble before Him, all the work will be in vain. The Lord is saying to us in the same letters. Isaiah chapter 66. The heaven is my throne and the earth is my stool. Very how does He build unto me and with the place of my dust. This building may give us a prayer for some time. But the question is, what will give God the prayer? In which way the heart of God will be satisfied. In which way this structure and we are God's people can give God the prayer. But before we actually gather here, we were filled with joy. But God was a joy to us by connecting. And He said us directly how that joy can be given to Him. The Isaiah chapter 66 and verse 2. And verse last part. But this man will I look, even him, that poor and unaccountable, and tremulous at my word. That's how God can find rest and joy through us on every vessel. That we may tremble at His word. May honor His word day and night. May obey His word in every small detail. Because what it may, we have to be prepared to obey God's word. Now there are occasions when God will ask us to do things which demand a very high price. There is always a smooth sailing in obeying God's word. We have to sometimes suffer much for God's worship. So we keep ourselves humble before God. Then very easy. If at all any sort of problem, any God coming to us. Then we make our lives still more difficult. So that's our prayer the very first day. God may keep us humble before Him. And teach us how to be truly humble. Not to be humble outwardly before man. Not to be humble before God. When we rise our need of God constantly. Are you seeing Psalm 42? 42nd Psalm. Psalm 42nd and verse 1. As the heart of the heart improves. Hope that my soul, I will be your God. My soul pursues God. Living God, when shall I come? And appear before God. Now the longing of a man of a poor spirit. Man longs to be with God. We know we cannot do without Him even for a second. Our longings for God should be like the thirst in the heart of this man. You see the heart will not drink water from a standing dirty pool. While the other animals will drink water when they are thirsty. Whenever they see some pool of water they go drink water. But the heart will not drink water from the standing pool of water. The heart longs for a stream of fresh water. And sometimes the heart has to go for miles in search for such a stream of fresh water. Now on the way there may be many standing pools of water. But he won't stop there. Even though the path may be full of danger. There may be many wild animals on the way like tiger or lion or leopard. Yet the heart goes on running fast. Running to find that stream of fresh water. Oh God my soul is panting after thee like a heart panting for fresh water. Don't be satisfied with a standing pool of dirty water. That's how many believers have lost their joy, lost their peace, lost their hope. They began very well. They were full of real for the Lord when they were born again. But when trouble came, trial came, difficulties came. Gradually they became cold. Now they are quite satisfied by drinking the water in a standing pool of dirty water. They have been deceived by the world and the worldly glories. And the time of marriages, and other worldly admonitions, and other worldly admonitions, they have been deceived by the Lord. They have been deceived by the Lord. They say in arguments, It doesn't matter. We have to live in the world. After all we are only friends. It doesn't matter. We do these things at the time of marriage. But that's how so many Christians, so many believers, they are drinking water from this filthy, dirty, defiled pool. But it's take a worldly advantage. Yes, God won't compel you. He won't force anybody. He shows the way. And leaves it to us. You obey or don't obey. He won't push you by your neck. You make your choice. Do you want this filthy, dirty pool of water? Are you thirsty for the fresh stream of living water? That's why we are saved by God. To live with Him. To live near Him. To live for Him. And to drink from His fountain every moment. Even though we may have to go to many dark valleys. Be thirsty for living God. Be hungry for living God. And willing to obey the mighty God. Even though you have to pay some price. But afterwards, you will be doubly compensated. When the mighty God speaks. When the loving God speaks. I show you His secret. Now don't be carried away by style. And outward things. But long for the Lord to speak with you person to person. And that's why we have this verse before us. And you will come to number seven chapter. And last verse. You know the whole story. When the people came out of Egypt. But what in Egypt they found many miracles. On their behalf, God sends His praise upon Egyptians.
