Be careful how I move it. I come from India. My name is Victor John. Many of you will wonder why my name is Victor John, two names. I don't have the answer because I didn't choose my name. The only three people that I know that have this surname as John is, one is Elton John, second is Olivia Newton John, and the third is Victor John. So there are no relations, I can't sing. But I can do, I mean I can talk a little. When I was pastoring a church in India, I pastored for 15 years, and our first daughter was born, she was about three years of age, and one day my sister, just to make sure that she knew her name, her father's name, profession, where she lived, in case she got lost sometime, somewhere, she can tell this to the police or the people. She asked my daughter, my sister asked my daughter, she said, what's your father's name? She said, Victor John. Where do you live? Jail road, that's where we live. Our road is called jail road. Many people think we live in prison, but we don't. So then she asked us third question, she said, and what does your father do? And there was a pause, there was a silence, and she thought for a while, and she said, hmm, my father, he comes and goes, he comes and goes, he talks and talks and talks. So that's the image a three-year-old had of me, that I just come and go, and I talk and talk, and that's what I do. Most of the time I feel I do the same. It was a great joy to have Brother Phil with us, Astrophile Beach with us, in India. Two things we liked about him, we liked many things about him, but two things that impressed us the most, the knowledge that he had of the word of God, and the servant heart that he had to serve the people. Our people enjoyed him very much, and I was impressed by looking at his Bible. I've never seen anyone who has used, overused the Bible so much as Phil has done. I think he chews every page, or licks every page that's in the Bible. He mocks, he takes notes. I was so ashamed of myself for looking at my Bible, I said, wow, my Bible is two years old, it still looks fairly new, you know. But we really enjoyed having Phil with us in India. His American stomach didn't cooperate with the food there, I'm afraid, but he did very well, and people were blessed. We were really honored to have him here, and it's a great honor for me to be here. I didn't realize that after three months, I would be here speaking in a church. And you've got to do me a favor, you've got to concentrate what I say, because my English is not very good. I grew up speaking Hindi. I went to a Hindi Indian school, and now I speak seven languages, and I have to manage in seven languages. Sometimes I speak in languages I don't understand. So if you do hear me say something in some language, bear with me, okay? It can be tongues, too, I never know, take it as tongues, that's all right, okay. I pastored my church for 15 years, I've been married for 20 years, I married a woman from Sweden, my wife is from Sweden, and I got three daughters, 17, 15, and 30. So you need to pray for me, because I shared my life with three teenagers, if you know what I'm talking about, some of you do. But it's an exciting life, they teach me every day something new, when I'm home, that's why I try to be out preaching around, so that, no, that's not the reason. About 10 years ago, well, rather, about 11 years ago, I met an American in a conference, this was a small conference, secret meeting, and we were going to talk about how to reach the Hindus, how to make approaches to Hindus. And we were about 25, 30 people, and this American that I met, he was a typical American, he was talking a lot, I'm sorry, and I thought, well, he's one of those guys who has lots of great ideas, and after one year, I will never see him again. But somehow, the Lord knit our hearts together, he was from Lubbock, Texas, if you know where Lubbock is, it's in Texas, if you know where Texas is, okay. He was working with Southern Baptists, but he was a little bit different than the Baptists that I had met, and he was talking about the people group, the area where I was working, and we began to talk together, and the Lord brought us together, and I was pastoring a church which had about 500 members with 5,000 problems, and I was also pastoring a church with another 50 members. When I started, we had five members in the church, in the register they had 25, and I said, well, what am I going to do, but somehow the Lord helped us to work together, and by the year end, we were 50 members in the church, from five to 50, and then it began to grow very rapidly. But I was not satisfied, I knew that I wasn't doing what the Lord had called me to do, and as I traveled by bus, by train, in India, I looked at the masses of people. Does anyone know how was the population of India? Do you have any idea? One? Two billion? That's right. That's a lot of people, I'm impressed, I'm impressed. You did your homework before coming here, right? I was moved, I used to feel very guilty about it, I said, what am I going to do, how to reach all these masses, how to preach the gospel? And as you know, India has a very old tradition, has lots of religion, people boast about having a culture which is older than 3,000, 4,000 years old. There are cities in India which have existed for 3,000 years, has a continuous history. Varanasi has a continuous history of 3,000 years old. There aren't many cities in the world that you will find that. So how do you preach the gospel to these people? What do you say to these people? The area we lived, and this American that I met, his name is David Watson, that we worked together, he's now the president of Asian Partners, the ministry that I'm connected with, we began to pray and say, what can we do, God, here in this area? That area had over 100 years of Christian history, almost close to 200 years. And one of the things that all mission organizers who worked in our area have said, that nothing, they have two testimonies, nothing happens in this area, nothing can happen in this area. Such a failure. If you look at the mission history books, about that area, it's written in the book, graveyard of mission. Because many missionaries died in that area, nothing happened. One of the reasons we looked at it, it was that Hinduism grew up in that area, Buddhism grew up, the city I live is very close to the place where Buddha was born. And he was committed also there. He died there. So it's like a Jerusalem for people from Japan, from Thailand, from all these areas. People come there, it's like a Jerusalem for them, they'll kiss the ground. I wouldn't do that, it's so dirty there. But they do it. And then you have the holy river Ganges there flowing there, people come from all over the world to take a dip in that river. You have seen it, how dirty, how filthy it is. Yet, you have white people coming from America, you know. Believing in reincarnation, believing in the karma, believing in all the stuff and coming and going through all the rituals there. So what can we do? And about ten years ago, I said, well, let's start with prayer. So we will get up in the morning, like 4.30 in the morning. That's the time when the Hindus get up. Christians usually get up late. And we'll go to the temples and we'll go around and say, these are the high places in Hinduism which controls the minds and hearts of people. So we'll go to the temples and we'll lift our hands and we will pray around. We'll go around for an hour, circle with the temples and we'll praise the name of Jesus. We'll praise the name of God. We'll worship him. Hey, somebody is calling you. If you don't mind, you can switch it off. Switch, turn it off, please. Because when I hear that, I think it's my wife calling me. Turn off my telephone, too. I have that somewhere. Anyway, and we believed, we thought that as we pray, as we get up in the morning, as we go to all these temples and pray there, somehow the power of darkness will be bound and God will release the people and we will see baptisms. There were mission organizations working in that area that had not seen ten people baptized together in the last 25 years. Such was the situation. We will go to people and people will say, they will just look blank in our faces. And we talk about, say, Jesus loves you. He died for your sins. You know, we're like talking to a wall. For two years, nothing happened. And as I met different Christian leaders, they almost told me, they convinced me that nothing happens in this area. And every time I will hear that, I will say, mind your words in Jesus' name. I will pray in my heart. Well, that's such was the situation. But then God began to work. God began to work. We had 30 baptisms first. Then we had 75 baptisms. Then we had 150 baptisms. And then we had 200 baptisms. Then we had 1,000 baptisms. And today, just for the glory of God, I can say there are 4,000 new churches we have built in less than six years. Our greatest need today as we train people, you know, I was talking to Pastor Phil when we were coming here. I said, you know, somehow it seems that through the history, God's people always remain poor. I don't know why. There are so many needs we have. So many areas we need money. And somehow money seems to be scarce. And we are focusing our ministry through training, through equipping ordinary believers, the new believers who come. And they are the ones who do the job. And our main investment is in the area of equipping people. We bring new leaders from the new churches into our training centers. We have an ongoing training program for a month. We keep them, feed them. We look after them. And we send them back. And they are the ones who go back and start churches. And you have seen some of the leaders there. Just a few of them came. It's about 1,200 that were there. They are not only men leaders. They are women leaders. Many of these women are illiterate. They can't read and write. But they are the best church planters we have. They go into the villages. They will pray for people. If they find out if there's a cow sick or a goat sick, they will lay hands on the goat and the cow and pray in the name of Jesus. So we have seen lots of miracles happening there. We have seen signs and wonders. We have seen dead people rise up. Rise up from the dead through prayers of ordinary believers. And that's how the bondage of Satan is being broken in the area which has been under Satan for thousands and thousands of years. We believe that our God is alive. He is at work. He is working. If we don't lose our heart, if we don't lose our hope, if we persevere, if we continue, he does his work in his own time. Not our time, but his own time. And this is the time after many, many years of mission work and many God's people who gave up their life, gave up their resources to see India safe. God is beginning to do a great work in India. And we believe in the next ten years thirty percent of India will be Christian. Maybe more. So guess what? If you take the thirty percent out of one billion, what does it come to? My mathematics is very poor. That's quite a lot, isn't it? That's quite a lot. Four hundred million. It's almost double the population of the United States of America, you know, will be a Christian in the next ten years. My challenge to you, would you join with us in praying for India? Would you join with us in coming out to India and sharing your resources, what God has given you? Our youngest church planter is a high school student. He's a sixteen-year-old. Can you believe a sixteen-year-old guy or girl in America would plant a church His whole house, his whole family last year, his house was burned by the Hindu militant. They came and they lit the house. Everything was burned. Everything was in ashes. And I was in India and I went back to this village and I was kind of battling in my brain, in my mind, I thought they're going to ask me for money. I thought they, I don't know what words to say, how to encourage them, what to say. I don't know, it happens like that. I'm a normal human being, normal guy. And I arrived there, I see all this bunch of new believers, group of new believers with a big smile on their face and I'm saying, hi, and they're smiling. I look behind them, all this pots and pans, they have, it has melted, you know, because it was all lit on fire. All the food grain has turned into ashes. There's nothing there. And yet they have a smile on their face. And I said, you know, I'm kind of being a little embarrassed and I don't know what to say. I'm saying I'm very sorry and said, why should you be sorry? They said, it's a privilege for us to suffer for Christ. I said, if that had happened to me, if all my things were burned, would I be able to really smile like this and say that it's a privilege for me to suffer for Christ? And these people have been a Christian just for six months, just for last six months. So God is at work. Please pray, continue to pray for the ministry of Asian Partners. We are doing everything we can to see India mobilized, India saved. We're involved in translation ministry. We're involved in getting the Bible ready. We've got the Bible in Bhojpuri language. It's people that we work among. We have about eight training centers, equipping centers located in different locations. We're doing it in a rented building. We don't have any of our properties. So I understand your situation here. This is very much the same situation in India. Many times we get kicked out when people find out we are Christians and we are doing or training people to be evangelists, pastors. Things get thrown out on the street, but God is blessing us and we are doing, we praise God for that. Oh, we continue that? Okay. Thank you. I'd just like to share with you a couple of verses from the Bible. If you have your Bible with you, please turn with me to Acts chapter 13. Okay. If you turn with me to Acts chapter 13 and we'll just look at a couple of verses. First I will start with verse 36 and it reads like this, the first part of verse 36. It says, For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep. He was buried with his fathers and his body decayed. But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay. It's a great testimony. If you go back to a couple of verses in verse 22 and the second part God is giving a testimony here. It says he testified concerning him. I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do. It's a great testimony. It's not a human testimony. It is God giving a testimony. One of my desires is that someday I will hear God give a testimony about me. I've been going around giving testimony about God. But I want God to give a testimony about me that I have found a man after my own heart. I've found a man who has obeyed me all his life. David We know about David in the Bible. Right? He didn't come from a very good background. His background was not very good. He was the youngest son in the family. Some of you who have grown up as the youngest boy or girl in the family know how it is. Sometimes you are spoiled. Sometimes you are treated by your brothers and sisters not so kindly. When Saul looked at David, he said, he is only a boy. When Samuel looked at him, he said, if Samuel had a choice, he would not have anointed him as a king. But God was after Samuel. And he said, well, this is the man I've chosen. Such is the situation about a life about David. We know about David. He committed adultery. He committed murder. He was a weak man. He was a man who at time looked like he let God down. And yet God is giving a testimony about him saying, he is a man after my own heart. He is a man who has served God in his own generation. And I don't know how what you think about life about Christian life. But one of the purpose that God has for all of us is that we should serve God in our own generation. We are not responsible for the generation that was passed that happened and gone in the past. We are responsible. We don't know what kind of generation will come. But we are responsible for the generation that is right now here. And God will hold us accountable for our own generation. If we look at the 13th chapter, you will find here the writer is talking about God's purpose. What is God's purpose? What is God's purpose? He goes back if you look at couple of verses in chapter 13 Paul and Barnabas they come to a city on a Sabbath day. They are invited to speak to the Israelis to the Jews. And they are talking Paul stands up in verse 16-20 and in four verses he narrates the whole 450 years of Jews' history. He gives the history there and tells what actually happened coming out from the Egypt what happened with them, how God took care of them. But one of the hidden thing here is that he brings out that the main purpose of God was to bring the Messiah into the world. The main purpose of God was to bring the Savior into the world. Among all things you know about David. One day he was sleeping in his palace. If you have a time you can look it into the Bible in 2 Samuel 7 and David is lying in his palace and the Ark of the Lord is in the tent. So David is thinking here he is saying well I am so comfortable here I am living so nicely here and the Ark of the Lord is in the tent so I must do something I will build a house and God hears that and God says David you are wrong you cannot build a house for me I am going to build a house for you and David has a surprise here David thinks what is it God talking about you know sometimes we want to help God don't we we think if we if I only when I was young I used to think if I only had more money I will help the mission work and God said to me not your money I want you you know I want you I want your life money I have I will give you money wealth I have I will give you wealth but I want you what I am missing is people and when David in all the goodness of his heart with all the affluence that he has now he is thinking of helping God building a palace for God building a temple for God and then God is telling him he says no no no that is wrong I am going to build a house a house that will last forever and ever from your body from your body will come out the Savior and exactly that is what happened now God did not write everything in detail but if you look at the whole Bible you see this line continuing the purpose of God continuing of bringing the salvation through Jesus Christ to the mankind bringing accomplishing that great purpose of bringing gathering mankind back to him the position that man had lost at the garden sin that separated man from God God is restoring that place that position back to mankind through Jesus Christ and David happens to be one of the men that was a man who obeyed God in his own generation God's desire for all of us in our generation is that we be obedient to God it does not matter how many songs you can sing it does not matter how many Bibles you can read how many verses of the Bible you have how many different verses you can memorize sometimes you know I go to church and I say lets read from Chronicles and the people have no idea what Chronicles is you know they are looking in the New Testament people they would never ever open their Bibles it does not matter how much money you give for God but what matters is this where is your heart where is your heart do you have a rebellious heart or do you have an obedient heart when Samuel was looking at all the seven sons of Jesse what did God say to him he said don't look at their faces don't look at their personalities don't look at their body builder look at their heart look at their heart where is your heart this morning are you living in obedience to God or are you living in a rebellion against God you can be going to church you can be reading the Bible you can be memorizing verses you can be praying you can be doing everything but if your heart is in rebellion with God then you do not understand the purpose of God you do not understand the purpose of God the purpose of God is to bring His glory among all nations among all people what is our generation like what is our generation like people say in olden days it used to be very very nice you know in olden days and I think ok someday I will also be talking like this in my days you know things were not so bad but I tell you in every generation from the time of Adam when Adam sinned what is rebellion against God rebellion against rebellion against God is de-guarding God you know dethroning God rejecting God and that is exactly what is happening in our generation today we have a generation today my God you cannot say to someone and say you are wrong we have a generation today where all ways are the same everyone is right the western society is so fast becoming a pluralistic society you know you finding God your way I am finding my God my way I work in Europe I travel little bit in Europe and I meet people and saying you cannot say that Jesus is the only way Krishna is the way you know you found peace through Jesus I found peace through Krishna I found peace through someone else they have so many private ideas about God people say I don't want to discuss about it this is my private religion this is something private for me our generation is more lost than ever before our generation is more perverse today than ever before so much of perversity has has infiltrated in our lives our families our homes I was in India just leaving India just the last month and I am standing at the immigration desk and this man says you know there used to be time when we used to trust one another now I don't know who to trust I don't know who is watching me I don't know the one who is with me is the one who belongs to some terrorist organisation I don't know I can't trust anyone we have lost the trust we have lost the hope we have lost the relationship that we used to enjoy together why? because we want to be individual because we want to be God ourselves I am in charge no one will tell me what to do you cannot correct anyone today you cannot go and say brother this is a wrong living brother this will lead to disaster because everyone is right in their own side isn't it? we have to be careful the parents have to be very careful how you correct your children a friend I met in Sweden he said he is from one of the Muslim country become a Christian he said to me one day I was scolding my son and my son said to me if you touch me I am going to call the police he said what is this? I can't even correct my own son he is only 7 years old why did God choose us? why did Jesus come? so that I will be a Christian that I will rejoice in my heart thank God I am going to at least I am going to heaven I don't care about others they go to hell I was scolded by a pastor in a church in Europe because I preached about hell he said you should not preach about hell God is God of love we should only talk about love but hey you can't understand God's love unless you understand the punishment unless you understand the depravity of man that's why grace is meaningless to people who do not understand the forgiveness those who do not understand the depth of sin for them it is meaningless to understand what the meaning of grace is God has called us to serve him his purpose in our own generation and God's testimony is higher than any human testimony isn't it? we want people to praise us we want people to appreciate us you go to some of the funerals which as a pastor I did and as friends of many people I had to do that you go to funerals and people stand up and you know they will kind of pull their pants up and start saying things and you think I wish this guy had said those words to the person when he was alive you know they make up the stories some people who will never talk to each other come on the day of funerals you know this was the kindest man I've ever met you know we pretend we make up the stories here is God wants to give a testimony about us God's desire is that he wants to give a testimony about each one of us if we have understood the purpose of God if we understood the purpose of we being Christian we being called by his name if we understand the meaning of obeying him in our daily life obedience must be supreme one other thing how we got this 4,000 churches 5,000 churches keep growing I lost count of it one other thing we teach our people very first day we say someday you will be a leader someday you will be a pastor so first thing you should learn in your life is obedience in our discipleship program we teach them how to be obedient to Christ in this situation we teach them to ask this question in this situation what must I do to obey Christ we tell them that you will be persecuted we tell them you will be killed there is a price to be paid are you willing to do this and they say yes and they come back after 6 months and say what's the news we have only I'm sorry we have only started 4 churches I said why should you be sorry he said we were thinking of starting 10 churches but we haven't managed to do it 6 months later when I was pastoring a church years went I could hardly win about 2 people to Christ hear this new convert because they have learned to obey Christ they have learned to obey him no matter where they are God has placed you all in different places just think about it all of us who call ourselves Christians in America all the people if we all obey Christ what will America look like in a year just think of that I was sharing with him the German philosopher he said there was only one Christian and he died on the cross when people criticize Christ when people criticize Christianity they never criticize Christ who do they criticize his followers why because we don't live up to what we preach and there is a great challenge for us there is a great challenge for us let's serve God in our own generation we don't care about coming generation God will take care of it God will raise someone else God has his own plan but our own generation this generation must hear the gospel this generation must have the opportunity to hear at least once people are lost in their sin sin must be preached as sin we have deluded our whole theology today with talking about God's love hey you cannot go on talking about God's love at some point you need to show the depravity of mankind at some point you need to show that human beings are lost one eccentric father a man he wrote a placard he said son I want to meet you next Friday and he put it in a square in a circle where people used to meet every Friday you know how many people turned up there were 80 young men who turned up just by reading that placard trying to find the lost and gone father there is a human desire in all of us to be found there is a human desire in all of us to be loved there is a human desire in all of us all over the world as I travel I find to belong to someone to have the sense of belongingness and here is God who has given us this opportunity this privilege to present the need to people it does not matter where you were born because that was not your choice but this is your choice this is where you are going you can choose to be different your parents may be drug addicts, prostitutes whatever totally living in hell that's not your choice but you can make a difference by choosing your life there is one who gives meaning to life there is one who gives purpose to life there is one who makes us what we are meant to be and his name is Jesus and that's why Jesus has to be preached in every generation without him there is no salvation there is no other name by whom human being can be saved only one name that all knees must bow all tongue must confess and his name is Jesus brothers and sisters does God give a testimony about us that so and so served God in his own generation that's my testimony I want God to give this testimony someday I want to hear from God's mouth someday I think I have just done just about finished may God bless God bless you all Pastor Phil asked me to open give a few minutes to share about to ask you to if you have any questions to ask me I don't have the answer probably Brother Philip can help me but you are free to ask me any question you want regarding the ministry regarding what I have said any comment you have yes sir before you ask questions I have a few questions I would like to invite us all if we could bow our heart for a moment and let's respond to what our dear brother spoke because I heard the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart and I am wondering how many of you heard the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart I just want to give a few moments to where we would be able together respond to this call from God and then I am going to ask if Brother Victor would pray for us pray for us but in particular I am wondering as we bow our hearts before God I am wondering how many here heard the Holy Spirit in a loving but firm way say you cannot continue to live in rebellion now this doesn't have to do with your outward performance you might consider yourself to be a faithful Christian outwardly you look good but God God was putting His finger when our dear brother was speaking on something that goes deeper than how you look or even how people judge you how people might think there is a root of rebellion that God wants to deal with in our life a rebellion and if we are going to be able by the grace of God to serve God in our generation we are going to have to pray and ask God to break that rebellion in our life whatever it takes and to give us a pliable heart like Solomon or Samuel when the Lord spoke to him he said speak Lord your servant is listening speak Lord Father we acknowledge your presence we heard the call of your heart today Lord as our dear brother spoke and how you want to find people not willing to be corrected not willing to be changed Lord God we pray that you'll break us heal our heart Lord we want to offer ourself to you I'm going to ask our brother Victor if you would just pray for us all that God would do this Father I just want to thank you and praise you for this time of fellowship and gathering together in your name I just want to thank you for all who are gathered here I thank you for Pastor Phillip and his church and his ministry his servant heart his willingness to go extra mile for you Lord to be an example for you and I pray to you Lord Jesus that first of all I want to rebuke the sickness that has come over so many families people I pray that you will release them Lord right now I cover them with our precious blood and I pray for this little group here Lord I pray that each one of them will be obedient servant to you God in their family life in their office life in their daily life wherever they go Lord with their husband and wife relationship with their children and parents Father they will be obedient to you they will honor one another and they will glorify you and I pray to you Lord Jesus that you will use their testimony to influence many in the society and the community they belong to Father I pray that your power will be released through them wherever they are Lord that they will not look at themselves as insignificant people who cannot do anything yes Lord it is true that we can do very little without you we are nothing without you Lord but with you we can do a lot we thank you Lord that we are more than conquerors because you live in us we are more than conquerors because your Holy Spirit resides in us and we will move around having the living God the creator God in us we just praise you and thank you I just commit each one of them this morning whoever have repented this morning I pray their heart will be strengthened Lord by your Holy Spirit I pray that they will be empowered by Holy Spirit Lord the anointing will come upon each obedient heart this morning Lord that your power will be released through them we just pray that you keep them and anoint them Lord to serve you to bring to fulfill your purpose in their own generation in Jesus name Amen Amen praise the Lord thank God Amen now listen please don't be timid if you have a question this is the guy to ask I stumbled so much trying to answer questions regarding India when I went and now even the young kids here the teenagers if you have a question ask Mr. John and he will be able to help you out in any way
