Hebron Dedication - Part 1
Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

What love we had from God for the promises He gave us about the house. Now, we enter this building with this desire in these words. Lord, I have loved the habitation of Thy house. You find these words also in the entrance outside the pandal. It's only when we have a real love for God's house, we can understand His purpose for us. I do trust that all of us can say these words from the heart. Lord, I have loved the place, love, the habitation of Thy house. There must be a sincere love for the house of God. If you want to be blessed by God, then be sure you have in the heart a sincere pure love for the house of God. If you want to be blessed by God, then be sure you have in the heart a sincere pure love for the house of God. The place where God's honor, God's glory is fully revealed. This building has not been built for man's glory or man's comfort or man's pleasure. We say for God's glory, that has been our desire from the beginning. We want God's honor to dwell here. Whatever is said and done and given, it may be a weekly gathering or a Sunday gathering. It may be a weekly gathering or a Sunday gathering. It may be a regular gathering or a special gathering. It may be a small gathering or a large gathering. Now shall we pray. Loving Heavenly Father, in the name of Lord Jesus Christ, once again, we give Thee our heartfelt praise and thanks for this happy day. We thank Thee for commanding us, for commissioning us to make our shift on this compound. We thank Thee for the mean use of Thee to secure this building, this compound, for Thyself and Thy use. And we thank Thee for the plan given and the strength given for the building of this structure. Now we pray Thy honor may dwell here day and night. Count Thy word, it may be a tabernacle of Thy glory. Count Thy word, all who come here may come with love for Thy house, Thy habitation and Thy dwelling place. This is the place where Thy mystery and Thy heavenly house and Thy foundation may be fully revealed. May it be a house of joy. May it be a house of worship. May it be a house of prayer. May it be a house of fellowship. May it be a house of service. May it be a house of sacrifice. House of revelation. House of divine illumination. The house of salvation. The house of heavenly bread. There be no lack of bread in Thy house. Many bond be broken. Many wounds be healed. Many eyes be opened. Many lives be transformed. Thy life like a river may flow. Thy power be magnified. Thy name be highly honored. I'll be given the same welcome. Thy word may go forth to many parts of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Asia, Europe, America, Africa, all part of the world. May be kept on the shelf of my body. O God the source. Verify Thy promise here given to us. Thou hast sent from this day. I bless Thee. And Thou hast sent the glory of the letter house. Shall we give them a former? And Thou hast sent its praise like a peace. Make me so. Loving for every devotee. Loving father. And give us a fresh. Revolution by glory and beauty. Now be allowed to go empty from Thy house. Lord we bless Thee. We pray in the name of the Lord. Yes our savior. I'll see from God's word. Number chapter 7. Book of number chapter 7 and verse 89. Last verse. Last verse of the book of numbers chapter 7 and verse 89. When Modi was gone to the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him. Then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him of the mercy seat. That was upon the ark of testimony. From between the two chariot beams and he spake unto him. While we have been thanking God for this building given to us to worship Him. And have fellowship with Him. At the same time we acknowledge that we are not upon the buildings made by men's hands. I remind you so clearly in the book of Acts chapter 7. 7 and verse 48. Now if the most high dwelt not in temples made with hands as saith the prophet. Heaven is my throne and earth is my footstool. But how shall ye build me? What is the place of my rest? Has not my hand made all these things? The people quoting these words from the book of Isaiah chapter 6. From the verse 1 and 2. Book of Isaiah chapter 66. Verses 1 and 2. Now saith the Lord. Heaven is my throne and earth is my footstool. Where is the house that ye build unto me? And what is the place of my rest? All those things hath my hand made. Now those things hath been, saith the Lord. But whose man will I be? Even to him that is a poor, contrite spirit. And this is my word. He is ready for us to be carried away by outward appearance. But we do thank God for all his favor he has shown to us. Enabling us to build this structure, this house. For himself, for his use. We will not be carried away just by word and symbol. As I mentioned yesterday in our prayer meeting. Every part of this building has a history behind. We have waited upon the Lord for hours together. Before we began the work. Before we actually saw the site of this bundle. We spent many Indian prayers. The Lord himself gave us a plan. Showing exactly the location of the bundle site. Then we prayed, O Lord, show us the dimensions of the bundle. Now going by our first plan, which we first thought of. We only had thought of about two such sites. Then someone said to me afterwards, that won't be enough for our use. At least more than one and a half old bundle. But that is part and parcel of physics. That must have been a larger bundle and not a smaller one. So after nine days of prayer, we decided the dimensions. About the length and the breadth and the height. Then we began to pray about the material. What kind of wood and what kind of material to be used. We are not concerned with the money, we are concerned with the Lord's plan. And there were many suggestions made. So many people of experience gave us suggestions. Then finally the Lord gave us a plan. And we know how every part of it has a spiritual history. At worst, every part has a spiritual lesson. But to be sure clearly about the next plan, the whole part. So we have seen God's hand working with us. Now we have all these past three months. And we enjoy to pray with our workmen, day and night. So we can say that every part of the structure has been soaked with prayer. Before the structure went up, every time we had to call upon the Lord. Every time we stuck a garter cup somewhere, again we called upon Him. And for something we had to pray for many weeks. Then Lord gave us His plan so clearly. Even though the Lord has been so gracious, so faithful in giving us the plan and material and the workmen. I have not upon the building. I have not upon the timber and the sheets. I have not upon the Lord. To us the whole structure is a reminder of God's faithfulness. So unless we keep ourselves humble before Him, all evil will be in vain. The Lord is saying to us in the same reference. Isaiah 66 The heaven is my phone and the earth is my stool. Very how that ye build unto me and with the place of my rest. This building may give us a prayer for some time. But the question is what will give God the prayer? In which way the heart of God will be satisfied. In which way this structure and we are God's people can give God the prayer. But before we actually gathered here, we were filled with joy. But God wants the joy to last for eternity. And He said directly how that joy can be given to Him. The idea that was 66 and verse 2. And verse last part. But this man will I look even him that who on an electron rides this and trembles at my word. That's how God can find rest and joy through us on earth. That we may tremble at His word. May honor His word day and night. May obey His word in every small detail. Cause what it may, we have to be prepared to obey God's word. Now there are occasions when God will ask us to do things which demand a very high price. There is always a smooth sailing in obeying God's word. We have sometimes to suffer much for God's sake. So we keep ourselves humble before God, then very easy. He will allow any sort of problem when He can come in to us. Then we make our lives still more difficult. So that's our prayer the very first day. God may keep us humble before Him. And teach us how to be truly humble. Not to be humble outwardly before man. But to be humble before God. When we rise our need of God constantly. Are you seeing Psalm 42? Psalm 42, verse 1. The longing of a man of a poor spirit. Man longs to be with God. We know we cannot do without Him even for a second. Our longing for God should be like a thirst in the heart of this man. Do you see the heart when you are drinking water from a standing dirty pool? While the other animals drink water when they are thirsty from any pool. Where they see some pool of water they go drink water. But the heart will not drink water from the standing pool of water. The heart longs for a stream of fresh water. And sometimes the heart has to go for miles in search for such a stream of fresh water. You know on the way there may be many standing pools of water. But he won't stop there. Even though the path may be full of danger. There may be many wild animals on the way like tiger or leopard. Yet the heart goes on running fast. Running to find that stream of fresh water. Now Swami says. Oh God my soul is panting after thee. Like a heart panting for fresh water. Don't be satisfied with the standing pool of dirty water. That's how many believers have lost their joy. Lost their peace. They began very well. They were full of zeal for the Lord when they were born again. But when trouble came. Gradually they became cold. Now they are quite satisfied by drinking the water in a standing pool of dirty water. They have been saved by the Lord and the worldly glories. At the time of marriages. They are carried away by love for the gold, silver and fancy things. That's why they are prepared to deny the Lord. They share the arguments. It does not matter. We have to live in the world. After all we are only friends. It does not matter if we do these things. It does not matter if we do these things. That's how so many Christians. They are drinking water from this filthy, dirty, defiled pool. And they take a worldly advantage. Yes God won't compel you. He won't force anybody. He shows the way. And leaves it to us. He won't push you by your neck. You make your choice. Do you want a filthy, dirty pool of water? Are you thirsty? Are you thirsty for the fresh stream of living water? That's why we are saved by God. To live with Him. To live near Him. And to drink from His fountain every moment. Even though we may have to go through many dark valleys. Be thirsty for living God. Be hungry for living God. And willing to obey the mighty God. Even though you have to pay some price. But afterwards you will be doubly compensated. When the mighty God speaks. When the loving God speaks. I show you His secrets. Now don't be carried away by signs and outward things. But long for the Lord to speak with you person to person. And that's why we have this verse before us. In the book of Numbers 7 chapter. And last verse. You know the whole story. When the people came out of Egypt. First of all, in Egypt there were many miracles. On their behalf, God sends His praise upon Egyptians. But there were many signs. Men of Egypt began to tremble at the power of God. Then with mighty hand, these people came out. They saw the clouds of fire going before them. They saw the Red Sea being parted in two. When they came to the wilderness. God called His servant Moses on the mount. And He kept him there for forty days. During that time God gave Him a heavenly plan. Heavenly plan of Sabbath. Mobile came down. All people gathered around Him. He told them. God has given them the pursuit. To build a house for Him. Well that is a mystery. Why should God want a house? He is everywhere. Why should God want a house? Have you ever seen a great king going about in search for a hut? Imagine a great king going in your seat. And you question him. Your majesty. What are you searching for? And he may say to you. I am looking a habitation for myself. I am looking a hut for myself. And you may say to him. Your majesty. Why are you coming over here looking for a hut? Why do you want to live among us? Why should a king of that stature come like a beggar? But this truth is still more mysterious. God is saying to those people. Those who have grieved Him. Those who have failed Him. Oh my people. The blood build me a sanctuary. Even though they would have thought for centuries. They could not have understood the meaning of it. But they knew one thing. They were words of God. Because they have seen Moses on the mountain. They have seen God's cloud on the mountain. So they knew fully well. That Moses was not a mad man. He was a man of God. And he was speaking as a man of God. And they must obey what he said. And they obeyed. And whatever they felt like. They brought offerings. According to God's command. That tabernacle was built. It was a unique structure. No other building was ever built like that anywhere. Going by the dimensions. Going by the material. It was unique. No engineer or architect ever had designs of the building. It was God's house. The lot was complete. And the cloud came as upon it. And the fire came as a sacrifice. And from that day. God began to speak in a new way. He began to speak from the cherubim. Above the mustard seed. In all the tabernacle three parts. The outer court. The holy place. The most holy place. There was sunshine. Sunlight. Light made by oil. In the most holy place. No door. No window. Only divine light. Sunlight, all light, divine light. In the most holy place. There was the ark of God. The ark was made of a sheet of wood. Overlaid with gold on both sides. On the top of the ark was the golden plate of mustard seed. And the same golden plate turning both sides became cherubim. And we are told. God began to speak from between cherubim. From that day. You know God already spoke to Moses in the burning bush. Then he spoke to him for about forty days. Then he spoke to him from the cloud. By now this is an entirely different speaking. It is wonderful to see God speaking from the bush. Imagine the burning bush, the fire. And there came the voice of God from that bush. And Moses was full of wonder. I see no person. Yet I hear the voice coming out. The voice came from the fire. Then the voice came from the cloud. Then God spoke to him face to face on the mountain. Giving every detail of Tabernacle. But now he speaks in a different way. He speaks in an entirely different way. God was telling Moses his heart secret. God has been keeping in the heart many secrets. From eternity. But from that day. God began to reveal to him all his hidden heart secrets of centuries. From that day they became God people. Even though they could not understand what God was saying. But the fact remains. God was speaking. And he spoke clearly. And he spoke lovingly. And he went on reading his mind. That is why God had brought them out of Egypt. That is why he had told them to build a sanctuary. Not for the sake of gold and silver and brass and blue and purple scarlet. God has no need for these things. He owns everything. But he told them how they can hear the voice of God so clearly. How can a mortal man, a wretched man, a ruined man hear the voice of God so clearly? How can the mind of God be revealed to a wretched man? How can the heavenly mysteries hidden from ages be revealed to a man? The mysteries hidden even from angels also. What God had been hiding from angels, was now being revealed through those cherubim. As long as God could speak, it was a tabernacle. But when people feared God, it was no longer a tabernacle. It was only a perishing material. And that is a very solemn warning. Every building, doesn't matter who builds it, or how you build it, it is only a perishing material. But when God does speak, it is only then, only then, the house of God. And that is our longing for this poor structure. That the loving God, the holy God, the mighty God may speak to us. We don't want good sermon. Either we want some very good Bible teachings. We are not after signs and miracles. Our longing is, that the loving God, the mighty God, the great God, the merciful God may speak from the heart every gathering. We may gather for weekly meetings or Sunday meetings. Or only a small number. Any time of the day and night. Our prayer is, that God may speak out His heart. He may tell us everything. He may not withhold from us what He has longing to reveal. Have you seen two friends? For some time they are thick friends. They confide very freely. They tell everything. Then through some words spoken, there comes a straining in between. There comes some distance. Outwardly they smile and meet together. But the heart has been changed. Every time you want to say something, there comes in a voice. Don't tell him everything. Be very kind. Be very polite. Give him tea and cake and coffee. It doesn't matter. Let him eat everything. Give him money also. But be careful. You can't trust him fully. He will fail you. Be careful. It is very very painful. We find very hard to bear it. But when the bond again is torn, what a jock I am back. Again I become confident. Same with God also. There are occasions when God is silent. We pray and heavens are closed. We come to a meeting. But nothing happens. It is very sad. When God, the loving God is silent, even though he supplies our needs, asks for our prayers, but he does not tell us everything. Please see the book of Genesis. Chapter 18. Book of Genesis. Chapter 18 and verse 17. And Lord said, Shall I hide Abraham there? At that time Abraham never knew. He never knew what was going to happen. He never knew what was in God's heart. But God is saying, How can I hide this thing from my dear, loving, intimate husband and friend? God is saying, I can't move a step further. I can't do anything. I am helpless. I must open my heart to my dear Abraham. God is saying that way. I won't do anything. Then God himself came to Abraham. In his own loving way he opened Abraham's heart. Then God said, Now I am quite happy and free to my God. This is God's will. God longs to speak to us. To reveal unto us his heart in more detail. That's our prayer for this structure. God may feel free to speak with us. God may not withhold any mystery, any secret, any plan, any word from us. Even though that word may hurt us, it may be a word of rebuke, a word of warning, a very hard command. Our prayer is, O God, go speaking from thy throne every meeting. Give us thy fullness. Pour out thy heart's secret. Lord, don't spare us. How to tremble at thy word? Oh, that's our longing. We say before God, we have no desire for large numbers of the crowd, or outward miracles and signs. We want to live close to God. In the heart, his own heart can be opened. God can say to us, Come along in my heart. Look into my heart. And let me tell you everything. Do you want that experience? That's why God's holding you. That's why God began to speak to him from that day. The sad thing was, they as a nation did not appreciate the love of God. They only wanted God when they were in trouble. They only shed tears when they were in trouble. After that, they had no time for God. And they are violent in our cases. We only think of God when we are in trouble. Oh, how sad it is. So many of us only come to God in trouble. Oh, do not wait for trouble to come into God. Come out to him day and night. And ask him to speak to you. And tell him very clearly, Lord, reveal to me thy heart's secret. Things which are hidden from him, the great man. See Matthew Gospel, and chapter 13, and verse 16, and 17. How blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear, when I shall show you many people whose eyes men have desired to see those things you see, have not seen them, either be here or have not heard them. See the same words are being repeated. God wants us to know his secret. But you only go by your desire. Now, what is your desire in coming to the house of God? Now, what is your desire in coming to the house of God? Do you come for sermons? Do you come for good Bible teaching? Do you come for good fellowship? Or, what is your motive? Please, see for yourself. And then you will know how close you got to him. So, we pray from the very beginning. The holy God, the loving God may speak from between each one of us. Day by day, week by week, month by month, revealing us all things in the heart. And may it be our daily experience, a daily enjoyment. Now, shall we pray? Our loving Heavenly Father, in the name of Lord Jesus, our loving Savior, we thank thee for this happy day. Thank thee for those who have come to take their share of blessings. Thank thee for those who have done for us already. Now, we pray the promise of number 7, and verse 89, we fulfill it day by day. Lord, take away our eyes from perishing things. And take away our eyes from things of naught. Take away our eyes from signs and miracles. And give the hunger and thirst for the living God. A longing to be with thee and live truly. A desire to hear thee speaking from thy heart, revealing all our secrets. Lord, make the house of revelation every day. May we gather on weekdays or Sundays. May we be here for a public meeting or just for a personal testimony. May we find the loving in the living God, speaking, revealing, showing things beyond our own capacity. Lord, bless thy word. We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. These messages were recorded in 1959, September 25th, when Bucksing gave a message for the Pandal dedication. Thank you.
