- The New Position in the Heavenlies (2:1-7) Paul brings us back to our past and reveals us our sinful nature and its result.(v.1-3)
V.1 a) Welfare -
“ Dead” Our trespasses and sins caused us to be dead toward God. Gen.2:17; Eph.2:12 Man is not sick and somehow able to be cured from sinfulness, he is dead and need God to quicken him.
V.2 b) Walk -
Our walk was with the crowds and they walked after the spirit of the world and the spirit of the world is the devil himself. The Ephesians were practicing witchcraft. Acts 19:19 (Gr. Peripateo) means to walk without destination.
c) Work -
Our former works was selfish pleasure and therefore we were sons of the devil. Jam.3:14-16 V.3 d) Want -
“ Conducted ourselves in the lusts” We were once moved by our wants, our fleshly desires, “ what I want and not the want of others and God” .
e) Wickedness -
“ Fulfilling the desires” We not only did what we wanted, but did it to that extent that the measure of our desires were fulfilled, therefore our desires were wickedness.
f) Wrath -
Because of our many sins, our walking in Satan’ s footsteps, our evil works, our selfish lives, our wicked desires, we then became the devil’ s children destined only to receive the wrath of God: The lake of fire. Rev.20:15 Now Paul brings us to the present and future and shows us the mercy and grace of God that were greater than our multitude of sins and depth of wickedness. It contrasts our depth (evil) to the depth of God (love). V.4 a) Rich mercy -
Mercy is not getting what we do deserve.
We can’ t outrun the mercy of God we can only resist it with our pride. Tit.3:5 b) Great love -
Love is the very nature of God. 1.John 4:7-11; 3:1 This love is greater than our hearts. 1.John 3:20 It’ s so great that it takes all saints of all times corporately to understand His love. Eph.3:17-19 V.5-7 c) I. He made us alive (We were dead). Col.2:13 II. He made us sit in the heavenly place (We were sinking into hell). Col.3:1-3 To sit is a resting position and we can all rest in the finished work of Christ.
III. He will show us in the ages to come His exceeding rich grace (We were to be shown His eternal wrath).
IV. These are given in Christ.
V.7 d) Exceeding rich grace -
Grace is getting what we do not deserve.
I. Grace is the loving touch of the Father unto an undeserved creature that is disgraceful.
II. Rich mercy + Great love = Exceeding rich grace.
III. Not only grace but rich grace and if we still doubts His rich grace, he adds exceeding rich grace.

2:8-10 THE ALMONRY ROOM

The New Position in the Heavenlies (2:8-10) V.8-9 a) Favour -
“ Grace” Salvation is only for the poor in spirit. Those that seeks His undeserved grace. Matt.5:3 b) Faith -
Even the faith that led us to the grace of God is not ours but comes from God. Jude 3; Rom.12:3 ) Freely -
“ Gift” Everything that comes from God is a gift: Life, food, health, children, partner and surely also our faith and salvation. All we have to do is to receive it and be thankful. Never try to earn anything from God, even His rewards is grace. Rom.3:27; 1.Cor.1:29; 2.Tim.1:9 V.10 a) Workmanship -
(Gr. Poiema) “ poem” arrive from this word.
We are the greatest poem ever written, the greatest love story ever shown and that not on paper but written into life’ s. 2.Cor.3:2-3 b) Works -
I. This new life united to every believing spirit were created for one purpose: Love - Unto God and man. 1.Cor.6:17 II. What cost God most - His first creation (Adam) or His second (Christ).
If His second creation cost Him most, we know as surely as God upholds all creation by the word of His power Heb.1:3, He will even the more uphold the new creation in us and complete it if we allow Him. Phil.1:6; 2:12-13 c) Walk -
Every believer has been designed even before creation to walk a certain path and in a certain way. Prov.20:24; Jer.10:23-24

2:11-18 THE ROOM
Positional Relocation (2:11-18) The New Position in the Household (2:11-18)
Welcome to the Audience Room explore it and let the Spirit of the house enlighten you. The Audience Room is a place where God announces His good news to His citizens, His victories, love, peace and covenant.
The New Position in the Household (2:11-18) V.11 a) Sign -
“ Uncircumcision” We were without covenant and the sign of God.
V.12 In this verse Paul describes that we were outside the land and the people. In verse 14 Paul describes that we were outside the temple.
b) Separation -
(without Christ) We were without any hope of a saviour that could bring us to God and no connection to the Lord of lords.
c) Stateless -
“ Aliens” We had no citizenship with the people of God and no connection to the King of kings.
d) Strangers -
We had no promise given unto us but the curse of damnation.
4 covenants Gentiles were strangers unto: I. Abrahamic covenant. Gen. Ch.15 & 17 II. Mosaic covenant. Ex.20-40; Lev. 1-27; Num.1-10; 18-19; 28-36; Deut.1-34 III. Palestinian covenant. Deut. 8:1-7; 11:9-17; 26:15; 28:1-14, Lev. 26:3-13 IV. Davidic covenant. 2.Sam. 7; 1.Chr.17; Ps.89 & 132; Jer.33 e) Self-assurance -
“ No hope” We had no self-assurance in the future and feared both life and the afterlife.
f) Separation -
(Without God) We were removed from the presence of God and eternally separated from Him, without any hope of ever experiencing His love.
V.13 g) Space -
I. “ Far off” We were far away from God and gigantic where the space between God and us, farther than from one end of the universe to the other, only God could reach us in His great love in spite of our ridicule of Him.
II. We were not brought near or carried into His presence but we were made near, It’ s the new creation that makes us near to God and His inheritance. After Paul had described our former separation He then describes how peace were made. Christ not only made peace but He is our peace, peace is a person.
V.14 a) Division -
In the worship of God, the Gentiles and the Jews had a dividing wall between them, also between God and man was the greatest wall that divided man from God: Sin. Jesus removed on the cross this great wall of sin.
V.15 b) Destruction -
“ Abolished” The commandments of God condemned man and brought enmity between God and man, Jesus fulfilled the commandments for us and took our punishments upon Himself. Gal.3:13; Rom.8:3-4; Col.3:3-4 c) Design -
“ One new man” God created a new man, the man Christ Jesus and brought all believers into His holy nature and thereby made peace. Gal.3:28 V.16 d) Disunion -
“ One body” Jews and Gentiles were separated and dismembered, Christ united them into one body (His own) and to God. 1.Cor.12:12-27 e) Death -
“ Putting to death” The enmity between Jews and Gentiles and even to God couldn’ t be healed, only putting it to death on the cross could reconcile.
V.17 f) Declaration -
“ Preached” Jesus declared this peace He would bring to the believers. John 14:27; 16;33 V.18 g) Director -
We have access to God through 2 persons: One is the way and the other causes us to walk on the way, One is the direction and the other is the director, One is the Son in whom we are sons and the other causes us to cry out as sons. Rom.5:1-2; 8:15-16; Heb.4:14-16
Ephesians 2:19-22
2:19-22 THE LIVING ROOM Positional Relocation (2:19-22) The New Position in the Household (2:19-22)
Welcome to the Living Room explore it and let the Spirit of the house enlighten you. The Living Room is a place where God inhabits and rests with His people, it’ s were we truly have fellowship with God, it’ s where we enjoy His dwelling and habitation and where the whole family of God are united and built up in His presence and love.
The New Position in the Household (2:19-22) V.19 a) Members -
I. We are of the same nation. 1.Peter 2:9; Heb.12:22-24 II. We are of the same household. Gal.6:10; 1.Tim.3:15
V.20 b) Message -
We are built upon the message of Christ, prophets (N.T prophets 3:5) and apostles. 1.Cor.3:9-15; 1.Tim.6:19 c) Master -
Jesus is the master and the first stone of that building, He is also the head stone. Psalms 118:22; 1.Pet.2:6 V.21 d) Maturity -
The building grows unto maturity and to a holy worship place. Paul may have contrasted the temple of Diana (One of the 7 wonders of the world) with this temple that is the greatest of all. 2.Cor.6:16; 1.Pet.2:5 V.22 e) Motive -
The very motive of God is to inhabit His people, dwell in man and in the Church. Rev.21:9-23
