Luke 21:1

ANd saw the rich men] Mar. 12. 41.

the treasury] There were other treasuries about the Temple, but this was a chest set at the outward Eastdoore, through which all the people passed in and out, that every man might with his own hand cast in that which either was taxed upon him, or he voluntarily offered, or gave unto the poore. See 2 Kings 12:9. 2 Chronicles 24:8. Nehem. 10. 38.

Luke 21:2

two mites] See Mar. 12. 42. The least money they had in use.

Luke 21:3

more then they all] More in proportion, considering her estate and theirs: and because God esteemeth not the gift by mans value thereof, but the givers heart.

Luke 21:5

And as some spake] Matthew 24:1. Mar. 13. 1.

and gifts] As plate, jewels, or the like things dedicated to the use o ornament of the Temple, by the devotion of them, who came thither to worship.

Luke 21:6

which ye behold] Which ye so much regard.

one stone upon another] Luke 19:44.

Luke 21:8

Take heed] Christ in these words answered not directly to their question, but that which was more necessary.

and the time draweth neare] That seducers shall go out into the world.

Luke 21:10

Then said he] Matthew 24:7.

Luke 21:12

they shall lay] Matthew 24:9. Mar. 13. 9.

for my names sake] For the profession of your faith in me.

Luke 21:13

for a testimonie] When you shall certainly know the truth of that I tell you beforehand, that you may thence be assured of the victory and eternall reward, as also of the destruction of your enemies, Phil. 1. 28. 2 Thess. 1. 5.

Luke 21:14

Settle it] Matthew 10:19. Mar. 13. 11.

Luke 21:15

For I will give you a mouth] See Acts 6:10.

Luke 21:18

But there shall not] Matthew 10:30. 1 Samuel 14:45. 2 Samuel 14:11. Acts 27:34.

Luke 21:19

In your patience] Live joyfully even under the Crosse, assured of your peace with God, who will not suffer you to be tryed, above that he will make you able, Romans 5:3. 1 Thess. 1. 6. 2 Corinthians 1:5. 1 Corinthians 10:13.

Luke 21:20

And when ye shall see] Matthew 24:15. Mar. 13. 14.

Luke 21:21

in the midst of it] In the midst of Jerusalem.

Luke 21:23

in those dayes] When Jerusalem shall be besieged by the Romane army.

Luke 21:24

untill the times] In which God will permit the Gentiles to oppresse the Jewes: and untill the fulnesse of the Gentiles to be called to Christ, be come in, before the recalling the Jewes. See Rom. 11. 25, 26. Daniel 9:27.

Luke 21:25

And there shall be signes] Matthew 24:29. Mar. 13. 24. 2 Peter 3:10. 12.

Luke 21:26

powers of heaven] The very fabrick of the heavens shall be shaken, and the whole world melt with heat, 2 Peter 3:10. This he speaketh of the last day.

Luke 21:27

coming in a cloud] Revelation 1:7.

Luke 21:28

then look up] This is spoken for the faithfull that shall remain to the coming of Christ, that they should not then be discouraged, but look up for the promise of Christ, eternall redemption from all oppression and evill, See Rom. 8. 22, 23.

Luke 21:29

Behold the fig-tree] Matthew 24:32. Mar. 13. 28.

Luke 21:32

shall not passe away] For those things which he spake concerning the of Jerusalem, came to passe about fourtie yeers after.

Luke 21:33

Heaven and earth] Matthew 5:18.

Luke 21:34

take heed to your selves] Romans 13:13.

Luke 21:35

as a snare shall it come] Ecclesiastes 9:12. The last day shall come suddenly when men look not for it.

Luke 21:36

pray alwaies] Pray without giving over: he meaneth not without intermission.

and to stand] Meaning so to stand in judgement as they that are justified by Christ, which the secure wicked shall not do. See Psalms 1:5. Ephesians 6:13.
