3saying, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such disaster on this place that the ears of all who hear of it will ring,
4because they have abandoned Me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in this place to other gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have ever known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent. 5They have built high places to Baal on which to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I never commanded or mentioned, nor did it even enter My mind.Cross References

Jeremiah 19:3 Summary
[In Jeremiah 19:3, God is warning the people of Judah that He is going to bring a great disaster upon them because they have turned away from Him and worshiped other gods. This is a serious consequence of their actions, as seen in Deuteronomy 28:15 and Jeremiah 17:5. The news of this disaster will be so shocking that it will leave a lasting impression on those who hear it. As we reflect on this verse, we can learn about the importance of staying faithful to God and avoiding the temptation to worship other things, as seen in Exodus 20:3-5 and Matthew 6:24.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of the Valley of Ben-hinnom in Jeremiah 19:3?
The Valley of Ben-hinnom, also known as Gehenna, is a place where children were sacrificed to idols, as mentioned in Jeremiah 19:5, and it symbolizes the depths of human sin and rebellion against God, as seen in Jeremiah 7:31-32 and Matthew 18:9.
Why does God address the kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem in Jeremiah 19:3?
God addresses the kings and residents because they are responsible for the spiritual state of the nation, and their disobedience has led to the corruption and idolatry that will bring about the disaster, as seen in Jeremiah 22:2 and Romans 13:1-2.
What does it mean that the ears of all who hear of the disaster will ring?
The phrase 'the ears of all who hear of it will ring' is an idiomatic expression that means the news of the disaster will be shocking and terrifying, leaving a lasting impression on those who hear it, much like the day of the Lord in Joel 2:11 and Amos 5:18-20.
How does Jeremiah 19:3 relate to the overall message of the book of Jeremiah?
Jeremiah 19:3 is part of a larger narrative of God's judgment on Judah for their disobedience and idolatry, which is a recurring theme throughout the book of Jeremiah, as seen in Jeremiah 1:16 and Jeremiah 25:4-7.
