2 Chronicles 29:14 Summary

This verse lists specific names of Levites who were part of the group working to cleanse the temple during King Hezekiah's reign. It shows that each person had a role to play in serving the Lord, just like we do today (1 Corinthians 12:12-31). The Levites' work was an important part of preparing the temple for worship, and we can learn from their example of faithfulness and obedience (Romans 12:1-2). By seeking to serve the Lord with diligence and humility, we can be part of a larger community of believers working together to bring glory to God (Psalm 100:2).

What was the significance of listing specific names in this verse?

The listing of specific names, such as Jehiel and Shimei from the Hemanites, and Shemaiah and Uzziel from the Jeduthunites, emphasizes the importance of individual participation and accountability in the work of the Lord, as seen in Exodus 35:30 and Numbers 1:50-54.

Reflection Questions

  1. What role do I play in the 'cleansing of the temple' in my own life, and how can I participate in the work of the Lord with diligence and faithfulness?
  2. How can I, like the Levites, work together with others to accomplish a common goal of serving the Lord, as described in 1 Corinthians 12:12-31?
  3. What are some 'unclean things' in my own heart or life that need to be removed, and how can I seek the Lord's help in cleansing me, as promised in 1 John 1:9?
  4. In what ways can I, like Jehiel and Shimei, be a part of a larger community of believers working together to serve the Lord, as seen in Acts 2:42-47?
