Context — The Wickedness of Joash

23In the spring, the army of Aram went to war against Joash. They entered Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the leaders of the people, and they sent all the plunder to their king in Damascus. 24Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the LORD delivered into their hand a very great army. Because Judah had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, judgment was executed on Joash.Cross References

2 Chronicles 24:22 Summary
[This verse shows how King Joash forgot the kindness that Jehoiada had shown him and instead had his son Zechariah killed. This act of ingratitude and disobedience led to God's judgment, as seen in 2 Chronicles 24:23-24. We can learn from this that forgetting the kindness of others and disobeying God can have serious consequences, but remembering God's mercy and kindness towards us can lead us to repentance, as seen in Romans 2:4. By remembering the good deeds of others and showing gratitude, we can cultivate a heart that is soft towards God and obedient to His commands.]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did King Joash forget the kindness of Jehoiada towards him?
King Joash forgot the kindness of Jehoiada towards him because he allowed sin and disobedience to harden his heart, as seen in 2 Chronicles 24:20 where the people, including the king, were transgressing the commandments of the LORD, similar to the way the Israelites forgot God's works in Psalm 106:13.
What was Zechariah's final statement before he died?
Zechariah's final statement was 'May the LORD see this and call you to account', which was a cry for justice and a declaration of God's sovereignty, similar to the way the martyrs in Revelation 6:10 cried out to God for vengeance.
How did Zechariah's death relate to the spiritual state of Judah?
Zechariah's death was a sign of the spiritual decay of Judah, as the people and the king had forsaken the LORD, leading to God's judgment, as seen in 2 Chronicles 24:24 where it is written that 'judgment was executed on Joash' because Judah had forsaken the God of their fathers.
What can we learn from King Joash's actions in this verse?
We can learn from King Joash's actions that forgetting the kindness and mercy of others, especially those who have helped us, can lead to hardness of heart and disobedience towards God, as seen in Romans 2:4 where it is written that God's kindness is meant to lead us to repentance.
