Psalms 105

1 Give thanks [praise, worship] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], call [cry out to] upon His name [His identity, honor, and character]; make known [declare, proclaim] His deeds [great exploits, mighty acts] among the nations [peoples, Gentiles]. word study 2 Sing [with joyful music, in praise] to Him, sing praises [hymns of worship, songs of adoration] to Him; tell [meditate on, proclaim] of all [every, everything] His wonders [marvelous works, amazing deeds, things that inspire awe]. word study 3 Glory [boast, rejoice] in His [having God’s nature] holy [set apart, sacred] name [identity, character]; let the hearts [inner being, emotions] of those who seek [search, inquire] the LORD [Yehovah] rejoice [be glad, celebrate]. word study 4 Seek out [diligently, with all your heart] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] and His strength [might, power, boldness]; seek [search for, ask for] His face [presence, being in front of Him] always [continually, constantly, every day]. word study 5 Remember [keep in mind, recall to memory] the wonders [marvellous works, miraculous deeds] He has done [accomplished, performed], His marvels [signs, miraculous signs], and the judgments [justice, verdicts] He has pronounced [spoken, declared, from His mouth], word study 6 O offspring [seed, descendants] of His servant [faithful attendant] Abraham, O sons [children, descendants] of Jacob [Israel, his chosen one], His chosen [elect, select] ones. word study 7 He [the self-existent One] is the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] our God [Elohim, the supreme Ruler]; His judgments [justice, righteous decrees] carry [are executed, prevail] throughout the earth [all the land, every region]. word study 8 He remembers [keeps in mind, recalls] His covenant [promise, agreement] forever [always, to the age], the word [thing, matter] He ordained [commanded, appointed] for a thousand [many, numerous] generations— word study 9 the covenant [agreement, pact] He made [cut, established] with Abraham [the father of many nations], and the oath [vow, promise] He swore [made a solemn promise] to Isaac [he laughs, son of Abraham]. word study 10 He confirmed [established, made to stand] it to Jacob [a key figure, son of Isaac] as a decree [statute, law], to Israel [his descendants] as an everlasting [forever, age-during] covenant [promise, agreement]: word study 11 “I will give [to bestow, to grant] you the land [earth, territory] of Canaan [the region of Israel, the promised land] as the portion [cord, measured area] of your inheritance [heritage, property passed down].” word study 12 When they were [but a few men in number, very few] few in number [a small quantity, a little], few indeed [yes, very few], and [sojourners, living as] strangers [foreigners, aliens] in the land [a foreign country, a place of temporary residence], word study 13 they wandered [traveled, went about] from nation [Gentile, non-Hebrew people] to nation, from one kingdom [domain, ruler’s power] to another [next, different]. word study 14 He let [suffered, allowed] no man [human, Adam] oppress [to press upon, defraud] them; He rebuked [corrected, reproved] kings [royal rulers, monarchs] on their behalf [for their sake, because of them]: word study 15 “Do not [never, under no circumstances] touch My anointed ones [Messiah, set apart for God’s purpose]! Do no harm [be evil, afflict] to My prophets [those who speak for God, spokespersons]!” word study 16 He called [invoked, summoned] down famine [hunger, lack of food] on the land [earth, territory] and cut off [broke, destroyed] all [every, the whole] their supplies [staff, source] of food [bread, nourishment]. word study 17 He sent [beforehand, in advance] a man [a male person, an individual] before them— Joseph [Jehovah has added], sold [given away, exchanged] as a [faithful] slave. word study 18 They bruised [hurt, afflicted with fetters] his feet [with chains, in bondage] with shackles [fetters, iron bonds] and placed [laid, put] his neck [soul, being] in irons [chains of iron, iron bands], word study 19 until [till the appointed time] his prediction [word, prophecy] came true [happened, was fulfilled] and the word [divine utterance, command] of the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] proved [tried, refined] him right [faithful, trustworthy]. word study 20 The king [ruler of the people, monarch] sent [dispatched, commanded] and released [set free, loosed] him; the ruler [leader, governor] of peoples [nations, tribes] set [freed, delivered] him free [untied, unbound]. word study 21 He made him [lord] master of his household [place, dwelling], ruler [to have power over, in charge] over all [everything, his entire possession] his substance [acquisition, wealth, property, things gained], word study 22 to instruct [bind, teach at his pleasure] his princes [rulers, leaders] as he pleased [at his will, with his soul] and teach [make wise, guide] his elders [old, elderly ones] wisdom [good judgment, intelligent discernment]. word study 23 Then Israel [the symbolic name of Jacob, also referring to his descendants] entered [came into, sojourned in] Egypt [a country in northeastern Africa]; Jacob [the son of Isaac and Rebekah] dwelt [lived, sojourned, to sojourn as a foreigner] in the land [the soil or ground, a country, territory, or region] of Ham [a son of Noah, often associated with hot southern lands]. word study 24 And the LORD [the Supreme God, Yehovah] made His people [Amaw, a nation or community] very [exceedingly, greatly] fruitful [to be fruitful, produce something], more numerous [stronger, increased] than their foes [adversaries, enemies, those who oppose], word study 25 whose hearts [inner being, mind and will] He turned [completely changed, overturned] to hate [intensely dislike, despise] His people [nation, those belonging to Him], to conspire [plot, deal deceitfully] against His servants [those serving, obeying Him]. word study 26 He sent [dispatched, appointed] Moses [the Israelite leader, His chosen servant] His servant [slave, bondservant], and Aaron [the first high priest, his brother], whom [which one, the chosen one] He had chosen [selected, elected]. word study 27 They performed [carried out, set among them] His miraculous signs [message of His signs, amazing miracles] among them, and wonders [special displays of God’s power] in the land [country, territory] of Ham [the descendants of Ham, a son of Noah]. word study 28 He sent [plunged the country into] darkness [physical and spiritual], and it became dark [made it dark]— yet they [the rulers of Egypt] defied [rebelled not against, refused to obey] His words [commands and promises]. word study 29 He turned [completely changed, overturned] their waters [sources of refreshment, liquid] to blood [the liquid that flows through the body] and caused [resulting in, led to] their fish [sea creatures, aquatic life] to die [to perish, come to an end, as a punishment]. word study 30 Their land [teeming with life, abundant] teemed [swarmed, brought forth] with frogs [marsh-leaping animals], even in their royal [king’s, sovereign] chambers [private rooms, innermost parts]. word study 31 He spoke [gave the command, said the word], and insects [divers sorts of flies, swarms of flies] swarmed [came in great numbers, descended upon]— gnats [small flying insects, mosquitoes] throughout [in all, across] their country [land, borders, territory]. word study 32 He gave [bestowed, granted] them hail [ice, frozen balls] for rain [showers, refreshing downpour], with lightning [flaming fire, flashes of light] throughout their land [country, territory, region]. word study 33 He struck [smote, hit] their vines [grapevines] and fig trees [a common food source] and shattered [broke, ruptured] the trees [strong and firm objects] of their country [borders, territory]. word study 34 He spoke [said, commanded], and the locusts [grasshoppers, cankerworms] came— young locusts [caterpillars, devouring insects] without number [innumerable, countless]. word study 35 They devoured [ate up, consumed] every [all, everything] plant [vegetation, grass] in their land [country, territory, soil] and consumed [did eat up, destroyed] the produce [fruit] of their soil [ground, earth]. word study 36 Then He struck [smiteth, killed] all the firstborn [the chief of all their strength, the oldest son] in their land [country, territory], the firstfruits [the beginning, the chief] of all their vigor [strength, physical power, ability]. word study 37 He brought Israel out [with great wealth, carrying loads of jewelry] with silver [money] and gold [a valuable metal], and none [not one, no one at all] among His tribes [or clans, a group of people with a common ancestry] stumbled [or was feeble, lost their balance due to weakness]. word study 38 Egypt [the land of the Nile, a country in northeastern Africa] was glad [rejoiced, delighted] when they departed [came out, left], for the dread [fear, terror] of Israel [God’s chosen people] had fallen [come down, been placed] on them. word study 39 He spread [stretched out, to cover] a cloud as a covering [a veil, for hiding or protection] and a fire [burning, flame] to light [to give illumination, physically or spiritually] up the night [a time of darkness, adversity, or hardship]. word study 40 They asked [to inquire, to request], and He brought [sent, provided] quail [small birds, a type of flesh] and satisfied [filled, made full] them with the bread [food, manna] of heaven [the sky, the abode of God]. word study 41 He [as the all-powerful one] opened [split, carved, or engraved] a rock [a boulder or refuge], and water [a source of refreshment] gushed out; it flowed [like a continuous stream, wasting away or overflowing] like a river [a flood] in the desert [a dry and barren place, or wilderness]. word study 42 For [because of this reason] He remembered [kept in mind, recalled] His holy [set-apart, sacred] promise [word, covenant] to Abraham [the father of faith] His servant [slave, bondservant]. word study 43 He brought forth [led out, took out] His people [nation, those chosen by God] with [in an attitude of] rejoicing [great joy, celebration], His chosen [select, preferred ones] with [expressing] shouts [loud cries, ringing sounds] of joy [gladness, singing]. word study 44 He gave [to bestow, to grant] them the lands [territories, countries] of the nations [Gentiles, heathen], that they might inherit [possess, take ownership of] the fruit [labor, produce] of others’ [peoples, communities] labor [toil, work], word study 45 that they might keep [obey, guard, protect] His statutes [divine decrees, laws] and obey [follow, observe, watch over] His laws [instructions, commandments].
