Psalms 102
BSA1 Hear [give ear to, listen carefully] my prayer [supplication, request to God], O LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of Israel]; let my cry [lamentation, heartfelt plea] for help [rescue, salvation] come before [into the presence of] You [the Almighty, the All-Powerful]. word study 2 Do not hide [turn away, veil] Your face from me in my day of [extreme, utmost] distress [trouble, adversity]. Incline [bend, lean] Your ear to me; answer me quickly [speedily, hasten] when I call [cry out, supplicate]. word study 3 For my days [are consumed, wasted away] vanish like smoke [disappearing, ephemeral], and my bones [my inner being, my strength] burn like glowing embers [a firebrand, intensely hot]. word study 4 My heart [is deeply troubled, smitten] is afflicted [suffering, broken], and withered [dried up, scorched] like grass [herb, plant life]; I even forget [neglect, overlook] to eat my bread [sustenance, daily food]. word study 5 Through my loud [intense, passionate] groaning [sighing, lamenting] my flesh [body, physical being] clings [cleaves, sticks] to my bones [skeletal frame, inner self] [due to the voice of my sorrow, my body is weakened]. word study 6 I am like [a pelican of the wilderness, a lonely bird] a desert owl [of the waste places], like [an owl of the desert, a night-bird] an owl among [desolate, abandoned] the ruins. word study 7 I lie awake [watching, keeping vigil]; I am like [resembling, comparable to] a lone [solitary, isolated] bird [sparrow, pelican] on a housetop [roof, house top]. word study 8 All day long my enemies [those who are mad against me, violent against me] taunt me; they ridicule [reproach, mock] me and curse [swear against, use my name as a curse] me. word study 9 For I have eaten ashes [like dust, as a sign of mourning] like bread [my daily sustenance, staff of life] and mixed [mingled, blended together] my drink [my refreshing, comforting beverage] with tears [weeping, sorrowful crying, as a result of suffering] word study 10 because of Your [divine] indignation [righteous anger, wrath] and [intense] wrath [hostility, passion], for You have [lifted me up, taken me up] picked me up and [thrown me away, cast me down] cast me aside. word study 11 My days [like a shadow that declineth] are like lengthening shadows [stretched out, fading away], and I wither away [am withered, dry] like grass [the herb, a fragile plant]. word study 12 But You, O LORD [Yehovah], sit enthroned [reign, abide] forever; Your renown [memorial name, fame] endures [remains, lasts] to all generations [from generation to generation, people yet unborn]. word study 13 You [as the Lord, in your sovereignty] will rise up and have [show, demonstrate] compassion [pity, mercy, lovingkindness] on Zion [the city of God, the people of God], for it is time [the appointed hour, the set time] to show her favor [be gracious to her, have mercy on her]— the appointed time [the predetermined moment, the set time] has come [arrived, is now present]. word study 14 For Your [faithful, devoted] servants delight [take pleasure, have affection] in her stones [the foundation, the ruins] and take pity [have compassion, show love] on her dust [the remnants, the rubble]. word study 15 So the nations [heathen, people of other nations] will fear [revere, be in awe of] the name [reputation, character] of the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], and all the kings [rulers, leaders] of the earth [the world, all lands] will fear [tremble, stand in awe of] Your glory [majesty, great splendor]. word study 16 For the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] will rebuild [restore, build up] Zion; He has appeared [been seen, revealed Himself] in His glory [honor, splendor, greatness]. word study 17 He will turn toward [pay attention to, regard] the prayer [request, plea] of the destitute [poor, homeless, those in need]; He will not [has not] despise [ignore, disregard] their prayer [request, supplication]. word study 18 Let this [be recorded for future generations] be written [for the benefit of] for the generation to come, so that a people [not yet born, yet to be created] not yet created [brought into existence] may praise [worship, give thanks to] the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]. word study 19 For He [from His holy place] looked down [gazed out, beheld] from the heights [the high place] of His sanctuary [holy dwelling place]; the LORD [Jah, the self-existent One] gazed out [looked attentively, saw] from heaven [the celestial realm] to earth [the terrestrial sphere] word study 20 to hear [listen to, heed] a prisoner’s [one who is bound, captive] groaning [sighing, crying out], to release [set free, loose] those [children of death, appointed to die] condemned [appointed, sentenced] to death [physical or spiritual destruction], word study 21 that they may proclaim [declare, give out] the name [reputation, character] of the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] in Zion [the city of God, Jerusalem’s spiritual center] and praise [celebrate, extol] Him [with worship, adoration] in Jerusalem [the city of peace, God’s earthly dwelling place], word study 22 when peoples [nations, people-groups] and kingdoms [nations, kingdoms of the earth] assemble [gather together, come together] to serve [worship, give praise to] the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of all]. word study 23 He has broken [weakened, humbled] my strength [power, ability] on the way [in my journey, along my path]; He has cut short [shortened, abated] my days [lifetime, time on earth]. word study 24 I say: “O my God [the supreme Creator, my Rock], do not take me [away in death, cut off my life] in the midst [at the halfway point, during my prime] of my days [years, time on earth]! Your years [eternal existence, infinite lifespan] go on [endure, persist] through all generations [ages, successive groups of people]. word study 25 In the beginning [before all time, from the very first] You laid [founded, established] the foundations [the base, the starting point] of the earth [the land, the material world], and the heavens [the sky, the celestial realm] are the work [creation, handiwork] of Your hands [Your power, Your authority]. word study 26 They will perish [come to an end, disappear], but You remain [endure, continue to exist]; they will all wear out [grow old, wax old] like a garment [clothing, vesture]. Like clothing [a vesture, a robe] You will change [replace, renew] them, and they will be passed on [changed, thrown away]. word study 27 But You [the unchanging One, remaining forever] remain the same [unchanged, steadfast], and Your years [periods of time, seasons] will never end [have no conclusion, cease to exist]. word study 28 The children [offsprings, descendants] of Your servants [faithful followers, devotees] will dwell [live, reside] securely [in safety, without fear], and their descendants [seed, posterity] will be established [stand firm, continue] before You [in Your presence, before Your face].” word study
