Dishonesty is strongly condemned in Scripture, with Proverbs 6:16-19 listing lying as one of the abominations that God hates. The book of Proverbs also teaches that a lie will ultimately be found out and punished, as seen in Proverbs 12:19 and 19:5. In the New Testament, Ephesians 4:25 instructs believers to put away falsehood and speak truthfully to one another. Additionally, Colossians 3:9-10 warns against deceiving others and exhorts Christians to put on the new self, which is characterized by honesty and integrity.

There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that run swiftly to evil, a false witness who gives false testimony, and one who stirs up discord among brothers.
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one another.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.
Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices, and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
“You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a malicious witness.
If anyone says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
“Which ones?” the man asked. Jesus answered, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness,
But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?
