Spiritual insight and perception are emphasized throughout the Bible as essential for a deepening relationship with God. In Psalms, the psalmist prays for his eyes to be opened to understand God's truth, while in John's Gospel, Jesus laments that some have been blinded to His identity. The apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians that Christians walk by faith, not by sight, and in 1 Corinthians, he looks forward to seeing God face to face, knowing that now we see only in part. Ultimately, as John 1:18 teaches, seeing God is possible through Jesus Christ, the Son who reveals the Father.

Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John,
How long must I wrestle in my soul, with sorrow in my heart each day? How long will my enemy dominate me? Consider me and respond, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death,

Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. As the Arameans came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Please strike these people with blindness.” So He struck them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha. And Elisha told them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will take you to the man you are seeking.” And he led them to Samaria. When they had entered Samaria, Elisha said, “O LORD, open the eyes of these men that they may see.” Then the LORD opened their eyes, and they looked around and discovered that they were in Samaria.
