15 Bible Verses on Repeated Sin

15 verses

Struggling with recurring sin is a common experience for believers, as the apostle Paul confesses in Romans 7:15-25. Despite our best intentions, we may find ourselves falling into the same patterns of behavior, but the Bible encourages us to repent and seek forgiveness, as seen in 1 John 1:9. However, willfully persisting in sin can have serious consequences, as warned in Hebrews 10:26, and Jesus teaches the importance of forgiving others when they sin against us, as in Luke 17:3-4. The Galatians are also cautioned about the dangers of succumbing to sinful desires, as listed in Galatians 5:19-21. Through repentance and faith, believers can overcome repeated sin and walk in the Spirit.

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do. But what I hate, I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I admit that the law is good. In that case, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do. And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So this is the principle I have discovered: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law. But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains,

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
In the same way, I tell you that there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous ones who do not need to repent.
Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.
Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God,
In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”
For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not carry the sword in vain. He is God’s servant, an agent of retribution to the wrongdoer.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
