In the body of Christ, believers are called to a life of mutual love and respect, where each member values and honors others above themselves. The apostle Paul instructs the church in Romans to "be devoted to one another in brotherly love" and to "give preference to one another in honor". This spirit of preference is also reflected in John's account of Jesus' command to "love one another as I have loved you". Additionally, the letters to the Thessalonians and Ephesians emphasize the importance of encouraging and forgiving one another, while 1 Peter reminds us to "love each other deeply" as a fundamental aspect of our Christian walk.
