15 Bible Verses on Identity

15 verses

In the biblical narrative, humanity is created in God's image, as stated in Genesis 1:27, establishing a profound sense of worth and purpose. Through faith in Christ, believers undergo a transformation, becoming new creations, as expressed in 2 Corinthians 5:17. As a result, they are called to live out their newfound identity as children of God, being part of a royal priesthood, as described in 1 Peter 2:9. Even before birth, God has a plan and purpose for each individual, as seen in Jeremiah 1:5, and through faith, one's identity becomes rooted in Christ, as Galatians 2:20 affirms. This spiritual identity shapes the believer's sense of self and informs their relationship with God and the world.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.
Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as Christ is pure.
Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—
to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be renewed in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
