In God's plan, believers are called to live distinct from the world, transformed by the renewing of their minds. As Romans 12:2 teaches, this involves not conforming to the world's patterns, but rather being transformed to discern God's will. According to 1 Peter 2:9, believers are chosen to be a royal priesthood, set apart to proclaim God's praises, and in John 17:15-18, Jesus prayed for His disciples to be in the world but not of it. As Ephesians 2:10 notes, believers are created in Christ to do good works, and John 15:19 reminds them that they are chosen out of the world, making them distinct from its values and ways.

They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents. They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things are worthy of death, they not only continue to do these things, but also approve of those who practice them.
