14 Bible Verses on Attention Seekers

14 verses

In seeking to live a humble and God-pleasing life, believers are warned against drawing attention to themselves for personal gain. According to Matthew 6:1, actions taken to be seen by others can undermine true spiritual devotion. The apostle Paul cautions against a self-centered mindset in Romans 8:5-8, emphasizing the importance of setting one's mind on the Spirit. Additionally, James 4:6 and Romans 12:3 remind us that humility is essential, and that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, encouraging believers to cultivate a spirit of modesty and service to others.

“Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.
Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:
Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.
to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
Let another praise you, and not your own mouth— a stranger, and not your own lips.
How can you believe if you accept glory from one another, yet do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
