15 Bible Verses on Ambition

15 verses

The pursuit of personal gain and recognition can be a powerful motivator, but Scripture cautions against allowing ambition to become an end in itself. In Luke 9:25, Jesus warns that gaining the world at the cost of one's soul is a poor bargain, while Matthew 6:33 encourages seeking first the kingdom of God. The Bible also teaches that true greatness is often associated with humility, as seen in Matthew 23:12, where Jesus says that those who humble themselves will be exalted. Additionally, 1 Timothy 6:9 and 1 John 2:16 highlight the dangers of allowing worldly desires to consume us.
