Opposition to Christ

3 sermons

The biblical topic of opposition to Christ is a pervasive theme throughout the New Testament, as Jesus faced resistance and hostility from various groups, including the Pharisees and Sadducees, who rejected his teachings and ultimately plotted his crucifixion (Matthew 27:20, Mark 15:11). According to the Bible, this opposition was not only a human response, but also a spiritual one, as Satan and his forces sought to thwart Christ's mission to redeem humanity (1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:12). The apostle Paul wrote that Christians, as followers of Christ, can also expect to face opposition and persecution, but encouraged them to trust in God's sovereignty and provision, as expressed in Romans 8:28, which states that "all things work together for good to those who love God." Through his triumph over opposition, Christ demonstrated his power and authority, and his followers are called to trust in him and persevere in the face of adversity.
