Mortality And Eternity

3 sermons

Mortality and eternity are profound themes woven throughout Scripture, reminding believers of the transient nature of life and the promise of eternal existence. As stated in Hebrews 9:27, "it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment," highlighting the certainty of death that awaits all. The genealogies in Genesis 5:3-23 serve as a poignant reminder of humanity's mortality, with each generation marked by the refrain, "and he died," emphasizing the inevitability of death. Yet, the Bible also offers hope in the face of mortality. In John 11:25-26, Jesus declares, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live," assuring believers of eternal life through faith in Him. Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 5:1 encourages Christians by stating, "For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." The certainty of death, therefore, is not a cause for despair but a call to prepare for eternity, as Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, urging believers to grieve with hope, knowing that death is not the end but a transition into everlasting life.
