Discipleship and Self-Denial

8 sermons

Discipleship and self-denial are fundamental concepts in the Christian faith, as Jesus teaches his followers to deny themselves and take up their cross in order to follow him (Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34). This call to self-denial is rooted in the idea that believers must surrender their own desires and interests in order to pursue a life of obedience to God, as seen in Romans 12:1-2, where Paul urges believers to offer themselves as living sacrifices. Through this process of self-denial, Christians are able to experience true freedom and life in Christ, as promised in Galatians 2:20, where Paul writes that he has been crucified with Christ and no longer lives for himself. By embracing self-denial, believers are able to deepen their relationship with God and live a life of faithful discipleship, as exemplified in Psalms 37:5, which encourages trust in the Lord and commitment to His ways.
